Two minutes of award-winning haiku

The Twins took breaks from the arduous rituals of spring training — see ball, hit ball, cover bases, throw strikes, run laps, lift weights, remember sunglasses, get sun, repeat until March 31 — to read a bunch of the haiku that you all sent in last week.

Tom Kelly must have become smitten with the camera when he played a role in that Twins commercial released last month. And that Joe Mauer fellow. He better stick to baseball.

Please post your reviews of their work.

I’ll have to post my review of their work a bit later… right now I’m laughing too hard!

That was fun! Everyone was great. Cuddy seemed especially comfortable reading a script in front of the camera (hint, hint: a future in broadcasting maybe?). The rest of the guys — well, they were themselves.

It’s nice that they were such great sports about doing that.

This is pretty much the best thing ever.

The boys really were good sports. Making baseball literary….sort of. I love it.

I’ll have to check this when I get home. Hope I hear one of mine.

Yeah, Cuddyer’s going to do some work in front of a camera for a living some day. Most of the others had probably better stick to baseball for as long as someone’s willing to give them a uniform.

I agree that they were all great sports for being willing to participate. It just demonstrates, again, why these players are popular with the fanbase.

I dunno… Mauer read it pretty much exactly how I intended. Which is just another way of saying, “Mauer read mine! Yay!”

What was the one that Mauer was reading to himself when they cut back to him a second time.

Come Easter Sunday I’ll be preachin’, while the Boys of Summer will be hittin’. You play the hand you’re dealt, huh? I’d rather have Mauer behind the plate than leading some Def Poetry Jam. So, here’s my try…

Jesus is my Lord,
But if I could snap a curve,
I’d praise God on grass.

God bless

When I saw Gardy at TwinsFest, I finally got to tell him what I’d always wanted to tell him. “Thanks for putting together a team we can be proud of both on and off the field.” That’s the part I’ve always loved about the Twins. And why I’m probably more of a Twins fan now, than I am an Astros or Rangers fan even though those are my teams from growing up.

I love it that these guys do these kinds of things. I’m not sure how many teams have this level of fan interaction. And thanks to Howard, and everyone else for helping us regular schmoes feel like we really get to know our team and are only a few degrees of separation from them.
