A quick thought on Gogomez

The new center fielder Gogomez is 51 games away from tying Joe DiMaggio’s consecutive-game hitting streak. Through the first 5 games of the season, he’s reached base in 10 of 21 plate appearances — a .476 on-base percentage — and he’s handled center field without a problem, save for a couple of cranky throws that haven’t cost the Twins.
But here’s what I want to share.
Usually, if I’m listening to a game on the radio in my car, I simply turn off the car when I get where I’m going. If I’m home, I’ll miss a couple minutes getting into the house and turning on the game. At work, I’ll get to my desk and check out what I missed on mlb.com.
Thursday afternoon, I was parking at work and Gogomez came up with two runners on and one out. It was the first time in a long time that I stayed behind the wheel to see what would happen.
Gogomez singled to load the bases.
I didn’t stay for the rest of the inning.
Through the first week, the returns are electric in a way I can’t imagine from Melky Cabrera or Jacoby Ellsbury. Just sayin’.
