No criticism today, simply celebrating
Posted on May 29th, 2008 – 8:16 AMBy Howard
Frankly, if the Twins had lost last night, I’m not sure what new there would have been to say and I may have just written four words “same old, same old” and let it go from there. Anyone who followed the game, or is fluent in box score, knows what I’m talking about.
Instead, after Craig Monroe bailed out his teammates with his wondrous 3-and-2, 2-out, 9th-inning, 3-run pinch-hit home run, and Justin Morneau banged another homer to open the 10th, I’d like to use this corner of cyberspace to celebrate the comeback victory. I’ll probably be among those who goes to the Twins web site today and watches Monroe’s home run — maybe a dozen times or so. Down 8-3 after 8, tied 8-8 after 9, a 9-8 victory in 10. Sweet!
Earlier this week I wrote about the frustration of being .500, knowing full well that .500 looked not so bad on the 2008 Twins.
Anyone who hangs here regularly knows this is a place where we — me, you ‘n’ the other commenters — don’t bury our heads in the sand when things ain’t right.
Today, though, I just want to suspend criticism and revel in what the Twins did well last night. Feel free to do the same.
Nice job, Craig Monroe.

Thank You Howard!
It is nice to have a bat on the bench that can hit HRs.
an this is what i get for switching off the game to watch reruns of the tudors.
nice win to say the least.
Bravo.
This team reminds me a lot of the ‘06 club, in that no game is out of reach.
There is a ton to work on -fundamentals, Delmon, Cuddy, the left side of the infield, (B)oof- but there is a certain attitude permeating this clubhouse that wasn’t around last year.
The core group of Mauer, Morneau and Nathan are quietly performing the way we expect them to, GoGomez is making his mark (a la Liriano), and despite the rash of injuries, players from Rochester (Howie Clark, Korecky, Casilla) have stepped up in some key situations the way people like Glenn Williams did back in ‘06. Good times all around.
And ANOTHER win for the Twins when Señor Smoke Free pitches.
You know, I thought the Craig Machine was Rondell 2.0, but man am I pleasantly surprised. However, there is no need to flip out and think he should be starting. (maybe DH) But the role he is in right now, he is flourishing. I’m lovin’ it.
I feel like Monroe was a great off season move. Having a bat like his off the bench tops anything Tyner or Ford could have ever brought. He’s an improvement at DH by quite a bit as well.
when you think of how bad a few guys are hitting (below their norm) and with the injuries to the pitching staff most of us (some will never be happy) should be very happy with where this team is at.
now if gardy can tighten up the d and vavra can get young and cuddy going, contending through the summer isn’t unreasonable anymore, while when the season started few thought (including myself) that would be possible.
i’m for trading livan while he has value, however.
Agree 100% Howard there were alot of bad things in the game last night, but to come back liike they did, that showed some balls.
To brand today as a “no criticism” day I think is going a bit far, considering, the manager himself was all about criticisms even AFTER this amazing comeback.
I think we can point out that it was a historic comeback…that Monroe seems to be a bat we were without last year in his role…that Morneau is a stud…and at the same time say that but for the unlikeliest of comebacks we would have plenty to criticize today.
So, Howard, as your blog provides THE premium Twins chatter forum, I have to reject the notion that today is No Criticism Zone on the Sinker Swim blog.
So let’s break it all down…
For starters, I’m hoping to get a hold of a replay of last night from the point I turned the TV to the basketball game on (two outs in the ninth) so I can see the amazing comeback, pitch by pitch, for myself…I am still shocked by the internet headline an hour later when I logged on to check the box score…I was so shocked that I woke the wife up and made her come into the computer room and read it for herself!
The highlights I did see featured the mortified voice of Ryan Levebre on FSN Kansas City (I miss Ryan) as he called the carnage from the lowly Royals point of view…
Jason Kubel. He’s usually my favorite target, but he came up big last night. It was a quiet 2-for-5, but remember, without his ninth inning single, the Twins never have a chance to start that comeback…the next 10 at-bats will be telling for him…(will he make my prediction of 3-for-20 post grand slam come to fruition or will we see some of the consistency that has been lacking?)
Mike Lamb. Another bright spot–he’s quietly been climbing out of Stinkville and I really hope this guy keeps it going so we can keep you-know-who on the bench when he rejoins the team.
Brendan Harris. Even better than Lamb–does anyone still think I’m crazy when I say he should have the fifth spot in the lineup over Cuddyer? I like the Harris-Casilla middle infield–go with it, Gardy! Don’t insert you-know-who.
Twins bullpen. We’ll need them–back to back impressive nights…if we want to stay above .500, we’re going to need these guys to keep it up! The Yanks will be a true test for this group.
Justin Morneau. Had a couple of hard hit balls but was looking at an 0-fer until he got his shot in the 10th. Still think he’s not the face of the franchise, boys?
(Okay Howard…here comes the, hmm, criticism…might want to look away)
Ron Gardenhire. One of my favorite baseball guys, but he dropped the ball by not benching D. Young last night and but not for a historic comeback he would’ve had it completely blow up on him. We won’t go into a gazillion details (covered yesterday), but he better not be in there tonight. Period. It’s not because of the misplayed ball on Tues. night, either…just check his last 7 games.
Michelle Cuddyer. The saga continues…is he above a benching or a batting order demotion? That misplay of the ground rule double should have been reason enough to turn the channel BEFORE there were two outs in the top of the ninth.
“The Little Things”. The Twins are now rivaling the Texas Rangers when it comes to our ability to do “The Little Things”.
Bottom’s up to keeping KC in misery for one more night!
Sure is nice to have some power potential on the bench. Last year Terry Ryan gave Gardenhire the options of Lew Ford or Jason Tyner in this situation. Gosh Ryan sucked.
I’m hoarse from cheering, and my hands hurt from high fiving.
And some people say baseball is boring…
It was a sweet, sweet game. Just goes to show why you can’t turn off the game and assume you know what will happen…
So true, JP…and I’m usually that guy who will stick it out until the end no matter what (although I stopped watching last Saturday’s game when it was 14-3 Tigers)…but for whatever reason, after Cuddyer’s ninth inning strikeout / bat toss, I turned it over to Celtics v. Pistons…
but hey, I’m still cool with missing out on what happened–I just can’t believe it happened! Awesome.
Delmon Young will NOT be in LF tonight or Cuddy in RF…I am guessing that Gardy will sit both of these or maybe just one at a time and put Kubel in RF and Monroe in LF with Lamb DHing and Macri/Clark at 3B.
Harris and Casilla combo - lovin it. Run with it Gardy and never look back to see if Funto is catching up because he never will be in sight with his bat.
I fear Gardy won’t be able to resist sticking his little buddy in.
I agree Kay…Punto will see the field sooner than later…looking for a monster next couple of games from Casilla!!!!
Like I said last night. I had a moment of shocked disbelief that it went down like that. Followed by a bout of hysterical laughter.
It’s a moment I’ll probably remember for a long time…even when the game itself was nothing short of ugly.
But my favorite Twins homer is still tied between Jones lead of homer off of Garcia (in that epic 05 Santana/Garcia matchup), or the Kubel walk-off Granny against the Sox (in that equally epic 06 Santana/Schilling matchup)
This homer was awesome, but those two games still take the cake for overall awesomeness.
I need copies of those two games.
I agree Howard it’s way too easy to find all the negatives in the first two games of the series but the bottom line is they won both games in extra innings and it was fun to watch. If someone can’t just sit back and enjoy this they never will.
Jason (and anyone else who turned away),
If you want to see the ending, record the replay of the game from FSN this afternoon. It’s on from noon to 3 p.m.
Ron Gardenhire. One of my favorite baseball guys, but he dropped the ball by not benching D. Young last night.
I disagree. Gardy is among the few who have been able to keep perspective on Delmon — unlike many Twins ‘fans’ (term used very loosely) who have been borderline classless the last couple days (and you can scratch the ‘borderline’ in some cases).
The kid was a mess mentally, but I don’t think jerking him out of the game would have been constructive at all. I think it’s completely appropriate to be critical of his screw-ups, but it went way over the top yesterday and last night. I was embarrassed for the way many fans reacted. This a time when Young Mr. Young needs a few folks in his corner, not to be set completely adrift. Have some empathy, for cripes sake.
I’m sure that Luis Rodridguez or Tyner could’ve jacked one too.
Fran, Gardy gave Gomez a day on the bench “to clear his head,” and it apparently worked wonders. But Young cannot have a similar head-clearing bench day because the poor kid is a “mess mentally,” and thus Gardy risks tipping Young’s childlike, fragile mental make-up if he gives him a day off?? Give us a break.
That rant was a joke, right Fran?
You do realize we’re talking about a major league baseball player, here, right–not a highschooler who’s going through a rough time.
Fran didn’t name names (ala Jose Guillen), but I’ll assume I can be lumped in with the “classless” group of die hard Twins fans who have called for Delmon to get a night off. I defend my position vigorously.
And let’s get that straight, too, Fran–we’re talking about a night off. A night off. You make it sound like we want to roast the guy like a campfire marshmallow. A night off will not kill him and if it does, well, in my opinion, that means he lacks the requisite mental toughness it takes to play in the Big Leagues.
So this classless fan will continue to disagree with the manager and say that at some point you have to bench a guy when he’s not performing–regardless of excuses or emotions–and Delmon Young is not performing right now.
I kind of think Gardy will finally end this sharade and start Monroe in left tonight…
The sad thing is BOTH corner outfielders would benefit from a night off.
“I’m sure that Luis Rodridguez or Tyner could’ve jacked one too.”
Good one rory I think each of Monroes arms is bigger than those two.
Here’s what’s really sad…if Delmon Young wasn’t the product of a trade that included Jason Bartlett and Matt Garza (i.e. if he was just another 22 yr-old in his second big league season), this wouldn’t even be a conversation…he would’ve had his first night off weeks ago.
Good post Fran. Spot on.
Justin Morneau spent a day on the bench in ‘06 when he was stinking it up. You might say it was “productive” for him.
I’m in the same boat as Fran. Ol’ Delmon needs to make some serious adjustments no doubt, but all the scouting reports on him can’t be wrong.
Some of you make it seem like he’s the worst mistake the Twins have ever made… 52 games in to the season.
Go ahead and commence with the name calling, I know it’s coming…
You do realize we’re talking about a major league baseball player, here, right–not a highschooler who’s going through a rough time.
Yes, I realize that. We are talking about a very and obviously high strung baseball player, who is only a couple/three years removed from high school age.
You make it sound like we want to roast the guy like a campfire marshmallow.
If you read the comment sections in many parts of the Twins ‘blogosphere’ yesterday that would have been a fairly fitting description of what went on.
But Young cannot have a similar head-clearing bench day because the poor kid is a “mess mentally,” and thus Gardy risks tipping Young’s childlike, fragile mental make-up if he gives him a day off?? Give us a break.
In most cases I would agree with you. I am wary of the psyches like glass that are often applied to baseball players.
I think Delmon is a special case. GoGo Gomez does not lack for confidence. I don’t know if there’s anything that could be done to shake him.
Not so Delmon Young. I think he would react badly to a benching, even one that is merited (and I would go along that it is). I think that is why Gardy has been so reluctant to do it. He is taking the stick with it approach, rather than the abandon him like everyone else approach. I think in this particular case, that makes more sense.
Maybe they will give Delmon a “mental day,” maybe as much to get C-Mo into the line-up for his heroics last night. But I wouldn’t count on that happening. I really think they are walking on egg shells here.
After sitting through that one in front of the television, I spent some time thinking about how I should think about it, if that makes sense. A more conventional win would have left me a little disgusted both because of the circumstances and because I think the Royals should be permitted to win another game one of these months.
But this was far from a conventional comeback win. I eventually came to the conclusion that the sins against the game I’d witnessed I should “just shut up about.” Appreciating a baseball season is like appreciating a round of golf. Enjoy the good shots when they happen and try your best to expect more of them are coming. Remind yourself that a good shot – or in this case, the crazy way games are sometimes won – is why you’re there.
But tomorrow…. well, I got a few beefs about stuff from Wednesday’s game that I’m convinced people need to know about. If I hold off more than one day those things won’t bother me as much as they do now. They would then represent missed opportunities to bitch. And what better way to enjoy anonymity and lack of accountability than to level criticisms at will?
Fran
Maybe you and Young can sit down with Dr. Phil after the season. Right now we are paying him 1.5 million dollars to play baseball. If he cant play baseball he needs to sit on the bench.
mbleeob, I certainly don’t think Young’s a great mistake, au contraire, think he has great potential. I just think he, and the team, could benefit if he possibly took one little night off. Egg shells Fran? Again, this “kid” is a PROFESSIONAL MLB player. If he can’t handle one game off to clear his head and perhaps get some pressure off from the all-eyes scrutiny he is now getting, then he does not belong here.
Fran
We saw the stick with it approach all last year with Punto. Did not work out so well for the Twins.
wow Kleiner…this really is a thinking man’s blog, isn’t it?
I’m watching the Monroe HR highlight over and over…I can’t get enough. Ryan Levebre’s call is priceless (wow I miss Ryan Levebre…even at his young age, he brings a level of professionalism to the broadcast that is quite refreshing).
Even as I watch the pictures…the money shot of Trey Hillman, the money shot of the catcher Olivo with his hands squarely on his hips as Monroe crosses home plate, loving every minute of it….I can still have other thoughts about this team, as I hope all of us would…
such as–sit him, Gardy. Sit him for one night…this is not life or team-changing event…just do it.
I can’t believe you wouldn’t do it for the sake of your defense alone, right? Seriously, guys…nevermind the struggles at the plate–when would the Twins EVER trot a guy out there night after night who’s played the kind of defense we’ve seen from Young this week?
Sit him tonight…if we win big…sit him again Friday…seriously, I’ve never been a Jason Kubel apologist, but you have to wonder what’s going through his head at the moment…
(Cue Howard for a peek into Jason Kubel’s head–I’ll preview–”Gee, how did I miss signing up for the D. Young playing time plan?”)
Big difference between Gomez benching and proposed Delmon benching.
Gomez was never “big-leagued” by a veteran player (Nathan) as was Delmon.
Gomez was not publicly skewered as was Delmon.
Gomez is very popular with the fans unlike Delmon.
I would say that Gardy’s support was much more crucial to Delmon’s future performance with the Twins than it was for Gomez. And Gardy has a much better view of the current psyches of his players than do the all-knowledgable STRIB posters.
Ask Kleiner, HELP. Help. Help me get up from the floor. That post at 11:42 was brilliant!! My Compliments, Sir!
“And what better way to enjoy anonymity and lack of accountability than to level criticisms at will?”
Kleiner,
That is beautiful!!
It’s been really nice that the Twins off season pick ups have been contributing this year. Livan is much better than Ponson, Monroe better than Rondel White and Lamb has even had some key hits to help win games, unlike Tony Batista. Maybe Bill Smith has a better feel for free agents than Ryan did.
no anonymity here…bouquets and brickbats are welcome at jiac5879@yahoo.com
I miss you, Lou!
one of the things that make these posts worth reading are all the experts and know it alls. not sure if they are flies on the wall or mind readers. i guess flies would have a hard time following the team around the country. maybe the twins company shrink?
gardy on the couch says i’d like to sit delmon but we made this trade and i don’t want to make the boss look bad. and i can’t move cuddy he came over a caulked my windows this spring, i got this great caulking at the hardware store, do you know about that store i can tell you? and nicky he needs to play when he comes back, he mows my lawn and rakes the leaves, and he took some pictures of the wife and me i don’t want anyone to see. sometimes it sounds like you’re one of the bloggers when my thoughts get posted on there you don’t tell people what i say here do you? bill said the same thing when the santana trade talks were on people were repeating all the names of players offered even before he knew about it.
oh for the life of the twins shrink!!
Jason: Can you come into my office when you have a minute, please? only if it won’t take you away from anything more important, that is.
lol. I’ll be right there.
Will DY sit tonight? Based on Gardy’s history of not following his critics’ advice, I would say ‘no’. Based on his hints in his post-game interviews, I would say ‘no’.
Should DY sit tonight? Based on his performance, I would personally say ‘yes’. Based on my respect for managers everywhere to know their players better than the fans do, I would say “I am fine with Gardy’s decision on this one.”
Are there other topics that can be discussed on these blogs other than who should be benched? The posts are consistent. Only the names change: Punto, Kubel, Cuddy, Span, Gomez, DY, Lamb, Everett, Rincon, Crain… blah, blah, blah.
Gosh, we must be able to think of more interesting things to discuss than this constant rehash of which player needs to be dismissed or benched.
Well, maybe not… just wishful thinking, I guess.
ok carlos what happens with boof if he has another bad outing or if he has a good outing when and if baker is back when boofs turn comes up. i think perkins and blackburn have earner their spots and maybe slowey. boof no options left so does he go to the bull pen? maybe teach him a split finger make an 8th inning guy. not really closer stuff now. pitching is to hard to find to just dump him.
Jason,
Did you mean Lou or Lew?
If its Lew,
how soon we forget.
nah I meant Lou (as in Lou Gelfand’s If I Ran the Paper column)…
Lew I miss, too, of course…but the game must go on, right? Now we have Cuddyer, making 6 times what Lew made at the peak of his career, putting up Lew-like numbers and making Lew-like fielding mistakes.
But anyhow, we’ve been directed by the powers that be to remain positive today (I’ll try)…so I’ll watch yet another replay of Monroe’s homerun and continue to dream of sweeping the Royals tonight!
Love this blog, Howard! You have to be the coolest Twins media member ever!
Anyone wonder about GoGomez’s durability? He plays all out which is great, but being young and reckless I wonder if he’s one crazy dive from a stint on the DL. Love watching him, but am concerned its just a matter of time…
Jason,
How soon we forget?
I wanted to check to see if I spelled Lew Ford’s first name correctly, but I couldn’t, because I could not remember his last name.
Losin’ it……….
Thanks GGG!
Yes, I am ready to give the Boof starting spot to someone else. Looks like that is in the plans too with the switch in spots and moving Boof to the Baker rotation spot coming off the DL.
Perkins and Blackburn have definitely earned their spots. Livan will continue tossing in his spot unless a trade were to happen. Frankie will get a spot if he returns this year. That would probably be Slowey’s. Slowey looked good last outing, but not yet convinced he is a starter. Might be better suited for long relief role.
I didn’t see the full game, but it seemed like Livan was using his fastball (that’s what they call it) an awful lot and his slow curve not at all. Wonder what’s up with that?
Frydog, I agree. Gomez is really taking a beating already this year with those hard bounces off the turf and a few fences. Add in all the head first slides and I think we have lots of reason to worry about his ability to stay off the DL.
First to go has to be the head first slides. He says he doesn’t feel as fast going feet first. But, I think he has taken other instruction, so maybe he can learn that as well.
Ask Kleiner- That was priceless!
sane- I like your take on Delmon.I think Delmon will get a “Mental Health” day fairly soon. But seriously, does he need it anymore than some of us bloggers?
I hope so… His aggressiveness is great, but last year’s broken hand, the ball off the head this year, the collision with the wall, etc. We want him intense but he may be better someday when he matures a little and knows the difference between a good dive and a bad one. One ACL tear and he goes from a 5 tool player to possibly a 2-3 tool guy. Don’t want to see that happen, but how do you temper his enthusiasm either? I was the same way at 22 (although, not quite as talented ![]()
carlos he gave up a lot of hits and looked bad, if not for a great play by casilla 2 more runs would scored. looks like the league has figured livan out time to trade him before he has no value. rotation after 4th july;
liriano
blackburn
perkins
baker
slowey
boof will take bass’s mop up roll in the pen. maybe someone with a real need will want rincon before the trade deadline we can only hope, bass is out of options so maybe save him and dump rincon going to be a fa anyway.
I find the Boof thing odd…sooo, he’s gonna start on Sat., knowing full well that it will be his last start before being moved to the bullpen?
What does that say about the outlook for Saturday? What if Booof goes 7 strong innings and gives up nothing (unlikely scenario, yes)?…Or, are we just to assume he’s going to give up a bunch of runs and hope we win in spite of him or have Brian Bass on backup alert that night?
Boils down to this–what will they do if Boof pitches exceptionally well on Saturday?
Jason,
“What if Booof goes 7 strong innings and gives up nothing”.
Then we threaten him with bullpen duty every five days.
If Boof throws a nine-inning shutout Saturday, his ERA will still be 5.37.
Not a career-saving performance in my book.
best case would be boof pitches realy well the yankees fall in love with and trade hughes and kennedy to us for him and nicky.
“best case would be boof pitches realy well the yankees fall in love with and trade hughes and kennedy to us for him and nicky.”
gobble,
I know that “love is blind”, but HOLY CRAP!!!
hey i buy lottery tickets to!
“What if Boof goes 7 strong innings and gives up nothing?” — against the Yankees. That’s pretty funny to think about; but hey, so is coming back from 5 runs down with 2 outs in the 9th inning.
Now, if the unbelievable happened and then happened a second time 5 days later, it probably would get the FO thinking seriously about a Livan trade. (Well, maybe Boof would have to do it a 3rd or 4th time before he took Livan’s spot and Livan would have to still be in a downward spiral).
On Young: name me a player that has not gotten a day off here and there under Gardy? Hunter, Mauer, Morneau all got days off (and still do). Giving Young a day off is not the end of the world, it is treating him the same as any other player.
Mike wants wins,
There are some people on this blog who will swear there are other Twins players who never take a day off despite what the facts actually show.
For all the wimps worried about Lady DY’s pysche if he sits for a day or two, what about the effect to his fragile pysche if he continues to play poorly?
I think we all need to realize Lady DY is a big boy and can handle a day off even if he doesn’t want it. And if he can’t handle that……..we don’t really need someone that flaky on this team.
“name me a player that has not gotten a day off here and there under Gardy?”
Jason Bartlett - 2006.
Sid,
If memory serves me right, Bartlett didn’t play a full season in ‘06, correct?
Too,
Correct.
Bartlett - 2006 - 99 games
Delmon - 2008 - 52 games
Too: where will your crusade go when Young finally has a day off. Maybe world peace or fix the gas prices?
Speaking of Bartlett… any ideas as to why Jason isn’t getting many doubles (4), triples (1), or HRs this year? His average is slightly lower than last year, but his XBH are dreadfully low for a guy with his speed.
heck, why would ANYONE get a day off in 2006…the whole team was on fire!
Sid,
I’m confused. You quoted a previous post and implied that Bartlett didn’t get a day off in 2006, correct?
what will they do if Boof pitches exceptionally well on Saturday?
If Boof turns in a great start against the Yankees, maybe we wait a little on Baker coming back. No reason to banish Boof to the pen if he looks like he’s turning it around.
Not that I’m holding my breath on that.
What the,
No, next would be something far more difficult than world peace or fixing gas prices. It would be to transplant a brain into people like yourself. Please try to post funnier messages….I’m assuming you were trying to be funny, correct?
Too: it may be Barlett started in the minors and didn’t get a day off after he came up which is the case I think.
Too: have a little anger problem?
what the,
So what the other poster asked was names of players that didn’t get days off and so obviously Bartlett is not a correct answer.
what the,
Have a little intelligence problem?
Too,
Once Bartlett was recalled to the Twins in 2006, he played every game, through the playoffs - no days off. The question WASN’T “who played 162 games under Gardy?”
I was answering someone’s query.
“name me a player that has not gotten a day off here and there under Gardy?”
give delmon some pine time maybe monroe can provide some power, Delmon has 14 rbi, Monroe has more in half the abs
sid,
And Bartlett gets days off occasionally. He has never played 162 games in a year.
Too: Sid explained it correctly sorry I’m such and idiot and didn’t blog slower so you could keep up.
Too,
And Delmon has played 52 consecutive games for Gardy compared to Bartlett’s 99 consecutive games for Gardy.
In what way was my answer incorrect to
“name me a player that has not gotten a day off here and there under Gardy?”
Answer: Bartlett 2006
Bartlett played ALL 99 games after his recall (plus playoffs) NO DAYS OFF HERE AND THERE!!!
Re: Bartlett’s lack of XBH’s
I have watched a couple Rays games on MLB.tv and it has seemed to me that he doesn’t look as fast. I saw him get caught stealing when he got one of the best jumps I have seen this season… on a not so great throw.
The Rays announcers were also remarking that he has been hitting everything right at outfielders, not so much into the LC and RC zones where most of the XBHs end up.
Sid,
Using your logic, a player called up for the last month of the season and playing in every game (maybe 30 games) is a player that doesn’t get days off here and there. I think we are all smart enough to realize what it means to play a season yet get days off here anf there. Come on……you’re smarter than that.
What the,
Sid did NOT explain it correctly and I can see that world peace will be much simpler to obtain than teaching you to think logically. Sorry, I didn’t immediately reply to you but my world doesn’t revolve around you.
You are one angry person!
what the,
You are one challenged person!
Too,
And by YOUR logic, a player who plays 52 consecutive games at the start of the year is being overplayed, while one who plays 99 consecutive games at the end of the year is NOT being overplayed.
I am going to go with MY logic.
Sid,
What I’m saying is Lady DY needs to sit occasionally (especially right now). I’m getting the impression that the streak means more to him than his performance….and that’s not good. That’s all I’m saying.
Looks like the sit DY debate can end, check out Joe’s blog.
Too: Young isn’t in the starting lineup tonight.
Gotta sit this guy tonight for cripsakes, right LaPanta? I mean the friggin’ guy has 3 errors in two games!
Too,
“What I’m saying is Lady DY needs to sit occasionally (especially right now). I’m getting the impression that the streak means more to him than his performance….and that’s not good. That’s all I’m saying.”
Then, I have no argument with that.
thanks for the answer, sid. I had forgotten about the Bartlett streak. It was memorable (I thought) because of how Gardy had treated Bartlett earlier.
mike,
You are very welcome.
Please tell Too Young to play everyday that my answer was valid.
He was not happy with that answer.
Too Young to play everyday,
Tomorrow we get a new topic and maybe you’ll get a new moniker.
Maybe tomorrow Sid he’ll be on his meds.
what the,
are you bipolar?
