Jim - I know, its been one of current starters, plus a high prospect, and another mid-level prospect.

My logic still applies to this, it doesn't hurt the future or the now.

The deal I think that should be floated for Beltre is something like this:

Blackburn/Slowey/Perkins
Swarzak/Humber
Hughes/Valencia/Benson

if that doesn't do it, I don't know if they should, cause I also don't like losing a Duensing or Mulvey in this same deal as well.

anyone else giddy about the potential of Shooter Hunt though?

TNG, one more thing... I don't think the M's have just been asking for one of the young arms. They've been over-reaching in what they've been asking for Ibanez and Washburn so there's no reason to think they aren't being just as unreasonable for Beltre. If they're looking to raid the Twins for their 3-4 of their top young prospects, the correct response is "no deal".

A guy I keep thinking has to be available is Mora. He's not what he used to be, for sure, but he still has some pop in his bat, knows AL pitchers, and I have to believe the O's would hand him over for a song to shed his salary.

I think if this week ended with the Twins adding Aurilia, Mora and Liriano to their roster and not giving up anyone off their major league roster but Boof (and whoever has to be demoted/DFA'd to make room for the others), I'd say the FO had made a legitimate effort to improve the team for a stretch run without mortgaging the future.

Cardinals might be shopping Lohse now.... White sox been looking for a starter.... thats going to blow up in their faces, it better anyway. Going to be so pissed if the Twins ran him out there for like 4 years and didn't get anything and then I have to watch him beat up on them with the Sox.

TNG, I agree to a point. I want Beltre or someone comparable. I wouldn't give up Baker or Liriano. I wouldn't give up Perkins because I really do see a huge advantage to having two LHPs in the rotation when Liriano is brought up... and for years to come. That leaves Slowey and Blackburn.

I would not LIKE to lose either of them, but I would probably do it to get Beltre for the rest of this year and next.

I also don't think that would preclude a Boof for Aurilia trade as well.

I would be nervous about having to finish the season with someone from the minors as our fall-back option if we need to replace someone in the rotation, but it's a risk I think is worth taking.

crap, i think twins really gotta do something now to say to the team "we're behind you, and we're going after it," throw out all this 'can't lose a young starter' garbage, cause it's B.S. B.S. and you know it.

I hope the Sox get Griffey and put his tired butt in CF. That'll be worth an extra run or two per game for opponents and he simply does not hit well enough any more to make up for his defensive shortcomings.
