1) Gary Sheffield: 499 career home runs. This is a nice stage for No. 500, not to mention 501 and 502.

2) Miguel Cabrera: Three RBIs from the AL lead. He gets four and then Morneau doesn’t have a chance to pass him Tuesday. (Title playoff games count in regular season standings.) It would look good with his AL home run title and allow him to say, “This season didn’t happen because of me.”

3) Freddy Garcia gets a national job audition for 2009.

4)  Curtis Granderson is from Chicago. He won’t roll over and play dead.

5) Nobody wants to be watching Peroxide Blondie in the playoffs, even (and maybe especially) his peers.

6) Pitching coach and bullpen coach get fired on Sunday. Who could follow on Monday?
