“French femininity, Brazilian sensuality, and American Simplicity,” is how designer Laura Poretzky describes her label’s identity. Here’s how that translated to the runway for fall 2008.

1. Booties: The shoes one the runway will be available in Poretzky’s Payless collection. The best was a dress “Ysabel” shoe featuring topstitching matching that on the clothes. The shoes were paired with little socks, but the dark color prevents them from looking school girlish. Also in the Abaete for Payless collection will be these clutch handbags.

2. Hoods: Even though they are somewhat reminiscent of Joan of Ark, I loved these practical hoods with everything from evening wear to

3. High hemlines: At Abaete, this trend found new energy in perfect circle skirts. So fun!

4. Color blocking: A big trend for spring, it continues here.

5. Subdued colors: Even slate blue is used as a neutral here.

6. One-shoulder: Exposing one shoulder is emerging as a major fall trend (a carryover from spring).
