Anything but Cliche

Last week was Cliche’s Anniversary show. Happy four years! Guest blogger Allison Malecha reports on four of her favorites, along with my commentary.:

Ivan Idland
Each of the four dresses in Ivan Idland’s spring collection was like a wearable piece of modern art, with vibrantly-colored geometrics working their way up the back and around the sides. In combination with a flowy bottom and simple fabrics, these dresses are figure-flattering and a perfect stand-out addition to any warm-weather wardrobe.

Jenny Carle Designs
Jenny Carle Designs’ spring line featured volume in all the right places. A little blue dress with pumped up shoulders and a fuller skirt was cinched in at the waist with a wide sunny yellow belt for a curvalicious body shape in fun spring colors. Another stand-out piece were high-waisted black jean shorts paired with a tucked-in lacey top for an elegant look that’s tailored to perfection. For only four pieces, this chic but wearable collection accomplishes a lot, with something to complement every body shape.

Amanda Christine
This pre-fall preview of crisply tailored dresses in abstract nature prints and dark solids paired with mahogany tights and black patent booties evoked somewhat of a dark woodland fairy vibe with a fun twist. The highlight piece had a distinctly more feminine feel: a strapless silk dress with a large, vibrant floral print, the likes of which have been hot all over the runways recently. These dresses will certainly be flying off the Cliché racks before the leaves even get a chance to turn color.

Kjurek Couture
The most eclectic and extensive showing of the night, Kjurek Couture flaunted an ultra-modern bright tomato dress, a black fall cape-inspired coat made unique with big gold square buttons, and a white mini-dress with peasant sleeves and a stand-out lemon-colored necklace to spunk up the look. These more modern looks were offset by a crimson and burnt orange one-shoulder dress that seemed to wrap the entire body in a giant, but surprisingly figure-flattering, ornate paisley scarf. The dress was featured in both a long and short version to transition from day to evening. Kjurek Couture certainly knows how to cater well to all different kinds of people, while still maintaining a trademark simple, wearable style.
[Agreed–a very modern take on boho chic and so wearable.–SG]
