Baby shoes controversy: Heelarious? Or heelacious?

When these black high-heel baby shoes landed on my desk, I wasn’t sure what to do. Yes, high-heel baby shoes ($35) for newborns 0 to 6 months. They “shoes” are soft and cushy and cute in theory, but also rather terrifying.

They’re labeled:

Heelarious
Her first high heels

At first I thought of my friend Happy who just had a baby girl two weeks ago (congrats!) and realized they weren’t cute even as a gift. I tried to analyze my visceral reaction: This footwear is not age appropriate. And that’s an understatement. Did I mention they come in a purse-shaped package? Others have had the opposite reaction I had.

Would you put heels on a baby?

I think that they shouldn’t be taken so seriously. The title alone “Heelarious” should show you that they aren’t for serious shoppers.

There’s no way I’d dress my newborn niece in those shoes! Now, if they made them in adult sizes. …

While initially humourous, It’s scarey to think about what is the next “step,” so to speak. Will they always want to dress their kids in fashions beyond their age appropriate styles? I hope not.

I was absolutely disgusted with these “heelarious” babyshoes.Reminds me of recently seeing a seven yr. old at a nail salon with her fake Louis Vitton purse -getting a pedicure/manicure.
Why wasn’t she out riding her bike or playing at a park?
