UPDATED: NORDSTROM coming to RIDGEDALE
Nordstrom will take over one of the existing Macy’s locations at Ridgedale to build their second store in Minnesota.
Nordstrom spokesperson Michael Boyd confirmed that the new store will be at Ridgedale, but wouldn’t specify the exact location.Â
Jennifer MacNamara, a Macy’s spokesperson, said that they have no intention of closing either of the two Macy’s anchor stores (women’s or men’s + home). Ridgedale currently has four anchor stores–the two Macy’s stores, Sears, and JCPenney.
According to a statement, a two-story, 172,000 square-foot store will open at the western Dale in fall 2011. Boyd indicated that construction will begin in 2009 and it takes about two years for them to complete a new store. He couldn’t confirm the exact location, but said that they remain committed to the location.
The Nordstrom at the Mall of America opened in 1992. It has a designer focus, featuring many high-end brands such as Chanel and Gucci. Nordstrom does not yet know if the store will follow the designer-model, according to Boyd.
David Keating, of General Growth Properties, the real estate company that manages Ridgedale is deferring to Nordstrom. “The only thing I can say right now is that no one is leaving Ridgedale at this time,” he said.Â
This announcement also comes at a time Nordstrom has been reportedly looking for a location to open in New York City.
Ridgedale recently completed an interior renovation that included making many cosmetic improvements such as lighting (including chandeliers), and additional public restroom, new carpet on the second floor and tile the first level. Ridgedale originally opened in 1974.
