Isaac is moving on. He’s leaving his five-year old Target line to be creative director at Liz Claiborne.

According to the New York Times, Mizrahi’s line will be in Target until the end of the year. Will Target pick up another designer for it’s cheap chic arsenal? Mizrahi’s  line sold as much as $300 million a year.  There aren’t many fabulous designer personalities left to tap–now that Vera is at Kohl’s.

Yesterday’s news from Liz Claiborne was that John Bartlett was tapped to head up menswear. Where Tim Gunn, the company’s chief creative officer, fits into all of this? We’ll see….

The new line of accessories will be in Target stores this coming Sunday (Dec. 30). However, if you can’t wait to browse or shop, you can buy them now online. (Shop tomorrow if you’re having withdrawal from
Sneaky! This sale is kind of secret, since it wasn’t announced and isn’t being advertised yet, so only those, uh, looking will find it.

Since debuting in 2004, Loeffler Randall has been a favorite of trend-setters everywhere. You might have seen the shoes and incredible boots at Bluebird Boutique. This fall designer Jessie Randall expanded into ready-to-wear (also available at Bluebird).

At Target, you’ll find some pretty fabulous flats–including ballet flats with rosettes ($29.99) and the cinched, peep-toe flats ($29.99). Close your eyes and imagine how cute they’ll be with skinny jeans.
There’s also a selection of handbags, including this satchel ($49.99). Everything comes in a few different colors. One note: There’s no real leather to be found. If you don’t have an issue with man-made materials (polyurethane, anyone?), then you’ll want one of everything.

Rogan Gregory won the prestigious CFDA/Vogue Fashion Award this year. Next up? Target, naturally!

Speaking of naturally, Rogan designs the label Rogan and Edun (with Bono’s wife) is known for eco-conscious materials. Will Target be dipping into organic cottons? Not yet known. This trench coat is on sale for $269 at Barneys.
The line will probably follow Jovanovich Hawk next spring and is said to include both men’s and women’s clothes.

Target’s Go interNATIONAL

0416_target_libertine.jpg

0416_target_libertine3.jpgSo Target’s next Go International collection, by American designer Patrick Robinson will be in stores on May 1. I recently found out the next designer on the list will be Libertine, a duo from Los Angeles and New York. (The photos posted above are from their collection, to be in stores in August).

So I decided to look at all of the designers by nationality:

– Libertine (American)

– Patrick Robinson (American)

– Proenza Schouler (American)

– Behnaz Sarafpour (American)

– Paul & Joe (French)

– Tara Jamon (French)

– Luella Bartley (British)

So basically, the most recent four out of seven total designers have all been citizens of the U.S.A. Target has gone from international to national. I guess Italy’s Miuccia Prada and Donatella Versace aren’t interested.

Right on Target

Target_Bullseye_in_NYC.jpg

Check out the bullseye banner that was outside a downtown NYC store usually known as Opening Ceremony. Target knows how to make a splash and throw a party. The hoopla was for the boys from Proenza Schouler (Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough).

The store was packed. Manhattanites have no Target store of their own (the horror!) and were loading up armfuls of the dresses ($40) for this pop-up shop that will be open to the public from February 2 through 5. I hovered behind the PS guys until I was able to tap Jack, who was sipping champagne. In addition to the comments in the Strib, he mentioned that he didn’t think the Target people had accents. You betcha!
