Online video memorializes bridge collapse

The I-35W bridge collapse has inspired a touching online video from the same Minneapolis-based creative people behind a similarly sentimental Iraq War-themed clip that went viral last holiday season.

Produced by the creative agency Brew, with help from others in the Minneapolis production community, Glow starts by showing the empty space and construction site where the bridge once spanned the Mississippi River before it collapsed on Aug. 1. As darkness falls in the 45-second clip, glowing lights take the shape of the bridge in the night sky. The word “remember” caps the scene. Viewers are then pointed to Minnesota Helps, a website where they can contribute to a bridge-disaster fund.
Brew says the clip was created “to create a thought-provoking viral film as a holiday message, meant for sharing with clients, friends, and family. Every year we seek to address an important issue, in a balanced, non-partisan manner.” Last year’s locally filmed clip, The Letter, showed a soldier rising from the desert in Iraq to reveal the imprint of an angel in the sand; Brew says it received more than 800,000 views.
