Techno deals await online

Forget dealing with the crowds in post-Christmas sales. A bevy of electronics deals await online today. Here’s how to find them:
Dealnews: If you want to go to just one place to find out about the best techno deals online, Dealnews is the site, even though it covers all kinds of merchandise. It has just set up a special section for post-Christmas sales, such as nicely priced GPS systems at Staples.com, but peruse the whole site for other bargains, too. Be sure to check out its Coupons section to see if you can increase your saving even more.
Fatwallet: This all-merchandise site works in the same way as Dealnews, but it also has a Forums area where contributors post and discuss their own deals and experiences.
Boddit: If you want to search for specific products, Boddit might be your best bet. It’s a search engine that combs through deals posted at Dealnews, Fatwallet and a host of other bargain-hunting sites, such as the Hot Deals Forum at Anandtech.
Amazon: The Web’s most well-known retailer is having a huge year-end sale. That’s no surprise. But some folks who typically shop it solely for books, CDs and other media might not know that it also carries a bevy of electronics products. Check it out.
Crutchfield: No one beats the customer service of Crutchfield, which has fair, but not always the lowest, prices. That changes some with its end-of-the-year sale. And don’t forget to check out its Outlet and Scratch & Dent sections for other savings on one-of-a-kind items.
OneCall: The savings can be substantial at this clearance-priced electronics retailer, but quantities are limited — sometimes only one unit — so check now and often for your target item.
Shop Onkyo: Star Tribune electronics Q&A columnist Don Lindich turned me on to acclaimed electronics maker Onkyo’s sell-direct online store. There are deals aplenty on refurbished products, which are marked down an additional 10 percent through today. You have to join Club Onkyo to buy anything, but it’s free and Onkyo will give you a $10 credit for your troubles.
DVD Talk: If you’re looking for the best deals on DVDs, online or in stores, the Bargains Forum of DVD Talk is where you want to hang out.
EB Games: The huge video game retailer has deals aplenty in its Used section. Enter the unadvertised code PPLAY15 at checkout to get an additional 15 percent off.
Pipe up if you have other techno-bargain sites you plan to use today. Meanwhile, check out the above great places. Just don’t deplete the stock of midrange home-theater receivers, because that’s what I’m looking for today.
UPDATE: Score! I found Onkyo’s acclaimed midrange receiver, the TX-SR605, for barely more than $300 shipped (refurb, but guaranteed) directly from the maker — $200 below MSRP and about $75 lower than the previous best deal.
