HD DVD deals abound for stalwarts

Here are some of the great online deals on HD DVDs that I promised yesterday. If you really bought in to that high-def disc format, it might make more sense to stock up on some of the roughly 400 titles that have been released to date while they’re being clearanced out, rather than just abandon it.
DVD Price Search: This indispensible DVD-only price search engine is updated continually with the latest deals and lowest prices. Enter the search term HD-DVD to get started.
DVD Talk: The users in this active online forum are posting their low-priced HD DVD finds in a few areas – DVD Bargains (many individual threads), The One & Only HD/BD Bargains Thread and The Official HD DVD Clearance Sale Thread.
Deep Discount has a slew of popular Paramount titles for only $9.98 shipped. They include Aeon Flux, Anchorman, Black Rain, Coming to America, Failure to Launch, Four Brothers, Hustel and Flow, The Italian Job (remake), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Tha Manchurian Candidate (remake), Mission: Impossible and M:I2, Old School, Payback, Sahara, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Sleepy Hollow, Top Gun, Trading Places, U2: Rattle and Hum, The Untouchables, The Warriors and We Were Soldiers.
Deep Discount also has many Universal titles for $12.20 shipped, including Carlito’s Way, End of Days and The Last Starfighter. Check Dealnews for a round-up of Deep Discount deals.
Amazon is selling many fetching Warner titles for 45 to 55 percent off, including the deluxe Forbidden Planet, The Searchers and Batman Begins. Amazon’s deals change daily, so check it often.
If you’ve really bought into HD DVD, you might want a backup player in case anything ever happens to your original one. Stand-alone players are already selling as low as $68 and the Xbox HD DVD add-on has been cut to $50. People are reporting finding open-box models in stores at cheap prices, too. But sit tight on this one, because those player prices are bound to drop even more.
