peanuts1.jpgAs the bad peanut scare prompts one of the largest product recalls in U.S. history, Whistleblower wants to know if Minnesotans are emptying their cabinets of America’s favorite nuts. To date, the food safety folks have reassured Americans that their beloved store-bought jars of peanut butter are safe. Nevertheless, the list of suspect cookies, granola bars, ice cream and other products grows every day. Are you taking any precautions? Changing your buying habits? Eating cashew butter instead? Hi,

Even though they say jars of peanut butter are ok, I have thrown my out anyway. Also, I
usually have peanuts as a snack in the afternoon, but have now changed to almonds
    or walnuts.

Even though the salmonella scare will probably be over at some time, I wonder if I will
go back to eating anything with peanuts for a long time. My 86 year old mother
feels the same way, as it has been a problem for younger children and older adults.

    Thank you.

With everything that has come to light about the peanut butter recall, people should not give up on all the other peanut butter companies out there. I had Skippy peanut butter last night and will continue to eat it. This is one company out of hundreds that did not operate under safe conditions. Most companies do not operate with this companies attitude. Most are concerned about thesafety of their consumers.

I’m tossing my lunch after the stimulus plan by our leader. Jimmy boy, why don’t you expose the crooked politicians that feel it’s acceptable to spend “our” money.

Go after some real meat, not some subject nobody really cares about. You are the king of softball subjects.

I think its probably the media again that is getting everyone up in a tizzy. not that it shouldn’t be takend lightly, but it seems to always get blown out of proportion in the media. I have not changed my peanut or peanutbutter consumption. the one company that produces the cheese cracher with peanut butter was named, I have not quit eating these. no ill affects.

Food safety is an extremely important issue, and thank you for covering it. It’s important for people to realize that it wasn’t the peanuts, but the shodding food handling practices of one company that supplies cheap peanut butter– for snacks, institutional facilities, and pet food. The name brands are not involved because they didn’t source their PB through that company. Check your pet treats and throw anything with peanut butter.

They can pry my Skippy from my cold, dead hand.

  7. Diane Says:

I don’t have money to waste on processed foods/junk food.
I only have vanilla ice cream in the fridge.
Peanut-butter flavored anything isn’t a problem in this household.

Dog treats are home-made with human grade organic peanut
butter so, again no prob. here.

I do check before going to the groc. store to make sure real peanut butter hasn’t been added to the list.

No peanuts on the Kung Pao chicken at Tai Hoa restaurant in St. Paul, my colleague Pat Lopez reports. Now how can you have Kung Pao chicken without peanuts?

  9. TM Says:

Love peanuts and peanut butter. Reading news articles
and now checking the list but no plans to stop eating
peanut butter on my English muffin, instead of butter,
and snacking on dry roasted unless my brands are added
    to the list.

  10. Minnesota Mad Man Says:

I’m Originally from Alabama ” Well Born there ” But I have been back there a few times and have even Worked at a Peanut Processing Plant, Basically the Nuts would come in from the Feilds by the Truck Load, Go through a De-sheller and then get stuffed into Huge Box’s and even Rail Car then be shipped out to the Other Plants that Roast & Flavor Them and then Onto the Stores so Us Consumers Can Purchase and Enjoy the Final Product(s) that were Made from the RAW Peanuts to begin with.

Now I LOVE Peanuts, Dry Roasted, Honey Roasted, Almonds, Cashews and REALLY Love PECANS but I was Confused as to how a Simple thing as a Peanut could be causing all these Problems and Recalls and was thinking that Damn this Peanut Butter Factory has to be full of IDIOTS to have caused all this Rucus over Peanut Butter, In the Peanut Plant that I worked in the Big Wigs made sure everything was CLEAN and Up to Code even though the Employees would get Dirty from all the Peanut Shell Dust from the De-Sheller Units.

I used to stand at a Machine and watch all the Freshly De-Shelled Peanuts coming from the Unit to watch for any BAD or TINY Peanuts before they got Boxed or Put into the Rail Car, I would also Sit Atop the Rail Car for roughly 6 hours per shift as the Peanuts were Fed through a Feeder Pipe that Reached the Rail Car, Their were 4 Sections Per Car that had to be Filled to the very top with Raw Peanuts so the 6 to maybe 6 1/2 hours was needed to get this job done.

So I was thinking how could a Company screw up something as small as a simple Peanut?, That was until I started reading all these reports and was like WOW, Peanuts are a Simple Food that Has been used to make MANY Different things and can be used to make many different things and People rely on the Product being SAFE for Consumption.

I was also thinking about How True people from the South actually Eat their Peanuts, They BOIL their Peanuts and me being from the North despite having the Southern Blood running through my Veins was thinking EWWWW GROSS!! How can a person eat a peanut after it’s been Boiled???? NASTY, Yes I tried it and was like NO WAY can I eat a Mushy Peanut.

So I decided to stick to how I’ve always Eaten Peanuts and other Nuts, ROASTED, SALTED, SHELLED & DE-SHELLED, Peanut Butter, Crackers & Peanut Butter but once I saw that the KEEBLER & AUSTIN Peanut Butter & Cheese Crackers had been Re-called I was like DAMNIT I go through quite a few of those a day.

I haven’t been able to Eat 1 of my favorite Snacks because of this Re-Call and In fact where I live we do have a Vending Machine thats owned by the Property Manager but Run by the Residents and we did sell the Austin Peanut Butter & Cheese Crackers in the machine but of course we weren’t gonna put the residents health at risk by selling a possible tainted product along with removing the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups & went as far as removing the Planters Roasted Peanut packs that were also sold in the vending machine.

Granted the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups haven’t been placed on the Re-call List nor has the Actual Planters Peanuts but again we didn’t want to put the Residents Safety at Risk, I also know that None of the Other Major Brands of Peanut Butter have been Re-Called but 1 has to wonder that since Peanut Oil has been placed on the List It made me think Hmmm Is it possible that EVERYONE’S Favorite Brands may be Next?? Since Peanut Butter contains Peanut Oil and I’m sure that people have seen that Oil before.

I’m talking about opening up a jar of peanut butter that was opened & not used for awhile and when you remember that you have peanut butter you open the jar and clearly see that Peanut Oil sitting on-top of the peanut butter and then you take a Big Wiff to see if the butter still smells good enough to use or eat and realize WHEEEEEW that it doesn’t, That tells you that the Peanut Butter has gone BAD but you decide ahh what the hell and use it anyways only to realize a few hours later that Your stomach decides to make you rush to the bathroom!!!..

So I’ve personally Decided NOT to take the Risk of buying even my favorite brand of Peanut Buttter ” Skippy/Extra Crunchy ” along with my favorite ” Sweet Junk Food Snack ” Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups until this Peanut Butter Issue is 110% Resolved, Just like I did when we had the Tomatoe & Lettuce Issue - Thank God I Despise SPINNACH or however 1 spells that….LOL..

Once this Peanut Butter & Related Product(s) Problem has been resolved then I will once again start eating Peanut Butter Products…

    Thanks For Reading.
