Demitra day-to-day, but…

Together now, “Aren’t we all?”

First, for the sake of fairness, I had a great travel day up here to Calgary on the local red and gray (or grey?) airline, and that’s genuine. No sarcasm … this time. Also ran into Ryan Boogaard, infamous brother of Derek Boogaard, at the Minny airport. He was dropping off mom Joanne.

I’m up here early to work ahead on a few things, and I’m even going to the Calgary-San Jose game tonight, so it’ll be nice to actually watch a game without any semblance of deadline. As I often tell people, I haven’t watched a third period in my career, which is kind of counterproductive when EVERY WILD GAME IS DECIDED IN THE THIRD PERIOD!

OK, I’m fine.

Kent went to the Wild’s optional practice today, where apparently the head coach exercised his option, too. Only a few guys were there for this very happy 7-0-1 team.

Speaking of very happy (get it?), LW Pavol Demitra was there, but he didn’t skate, instead opting to rest his strained right adductor (i.e. hip). The plan is for him to go on the upcoming three-game trip to Calgary, Edmonton and Denver, but it’s not known yet if/when he’ll play.

Assistant GM Tom Lynn says no decision has been made yet whether the team will recall a forward for insurance purposes. Matt Foy played well yesterday and since yesterday’s healthy scratch forward, Derek Boogaard, would likely be needed against the Flames, technically the Wild doesn’t have to make a recall.

But with back-to-back games, if Demitra can’t play, you’d think it would bring somebody up just in case a player got hurt against Calgary.

Also, Dominic Moore, still suffering from an abdominal strain, won’t make the trip. Talk to you tonightish/tomorrowish.

By the way, Roman Voloshenko wasn’t the only NHLer enticed by big-budget Russian team, Kazan. St. Louis’ Petr Cajanek, not happy playing in Peoria, is heading there, too.
