Saturday skate update

Posted on December 29th, 2007 – 1:06 PM
By Kent Youngblood

Greetings. Russo wasn’t the only one taking Saturday morning off. Jacques let most of the players skip the morning skate. The only ones on the ice this morning were the two goaltenders, defensemen Petteri Nummelin, Keith Carney and Kurtis Foster and forwards Todd Fedoruk, Matt Foy and James Sheppard.

Looks like Backstrom in goal tonight.

That’s about it, so far, for the day.

Good to see Backstrom looking good again, having him get back to his top form might help give the team a little confidence. Any timetable yet on Koivu’s return? I saw that he is skating but is there any talk of him practicing?

What? Is everyone gone for New Years already?

Fine. I’ll start it.

DUMP SKOULA!

So what are the Wlid’s chances tonight? I would love to think this will be an easy victory for them, but you never can tell with this team lately.

Most Important, I have something to say!

I discovered something last night….

FAT TIRE on tap at Outback Steakhouse in Eden Prairie! Was there for Mom’s B-Day, waitress tells us what’s on tap, me and the wife smiled big! Yum!

Okay, tonight, Go Wild.

DP,

I got a chance to talk to Russo on my flight home from PHX and then while walking through the airport, and he said that there is no time table for Miko coming back yet.

I’m thinking the timetable won’t be set until he starts practicing and that date is still up in the air.

We should probably be watching out for Penner tonight. Sounds like he has found his way in Edmonton.

Avs lose to Kings today. Blow a 1-0 lead in the third.

I think Colorado is in trouble without Sakic, I think it is the Wild vs. Vancouver for the division.

Thanks for the update greg.

DP…I don’t agree. I think CO will be there until the end.

I also thought the Wild were going to win the division, so what do I know… :P

We’ll see, I do think the Avs are still a good team and will likely make the playoffs, and maybe I am biased because Sakic is such a Wild killer, but I think losing him for 8-12 weeks hurts them.

kj says:

Oh, no doubt it hurts them (does the name Koivu ring a bell?) but they are still talented enough to keep pace.

Got to be tough losing at home to weakest team in the West. Samsonov went on waivers. Talk about a career that went Soouth.

Russo, good job on Wild Insider today. Straight talk. The Wild are a good team but not good enough. The fans who support this team deserve better. And it’s not the coach, I think we’re lucky to have JL. If they take a step backward this year, and it looks like they might, it’s on DR. The top GM’s in the west have done a better job so far.

I think anyone but the Oilers could very realistically expect to win the Northwest at this point. The Avs are better with Sakic, obviously, but they’ve got a pretty solid supporting cast. Other than Vancouver, though, it’s Calgary that really scares me. It’s not gonna take much to be in this division race to the end, and if they’re still around in March, the Flames’ size and aggressiveness could be a factor.

We need to get our power play together. We have given up a few to many shorthanded goals lately. I don’t care if they say we moved up to 5th, it sure doesn’t look like it. Can’t believe we gave Edmonton a shortie not even 2 minutes into the game.

AustinTXwildfan says:

Oh crap… I though the game was on later. Whoops. Tuning in now.

AustinTXwildfan says:

We got dumb and dumber on CI tonight… Is it bad when I wish we had the opposing team’s feed all the time?

AustinTXwildfan says:

December 29th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

Hmm.. not so good. I think the Wild don’t look bad per se, but this is not good.

AustinTXwildfan says:

That was funny, Johnsson almost fell then got the biscut it the basket!

woodcock says:

Pathetic was the PP. But we do look pretty good. Amazing save by Roli at the end.

AustinTXwildfan says:

December 29th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

Wow, what a save by Rolie! That was insane. Should have been tied up there. Wild looked pretty good at the end of the period there.
