Monday morning check-in

Wild isn’t practicing today, so this will likely be my sole hello.

Interesting game last night. As Kent pointed out to me, amazing how the Wild could be so fortunate to steal a point, yet get robbed of the victory by Patrick Marleau.

And I’ll tell you what, we have some phenomonal photo journalists at the Strib. How about the Marleau save being captured by photog David Brewster?

Did you happen to see that Benoit Pouliot not only played last night with a busted-up face, he scored the OT winner for Houston to beat Rochester? Pretty great play, and the Aeros are working on getting it up on YouTube as we speak. If I hear it’s up, I’ll post the link. He wore a full shield in the first period, couldn’t see, so he changed back to his half visor with a jaw protector.

The Aeros have won seven in a row to move into fourth in the West Division. If the season ended today, they’d be in the playoffs.

One wonders if the Wild would consider recalling Pouliot. After all, the Wild is having major difficulty scoring (two goals or less in 9 of the last 11 games).

Also, much apologies. Just dawned on me that I did a Sports Illustrated pop culture quiz last week with Eric Belanger for an upcoming issue. So, here’s another example of the S.I. Jinx.

My bad.

Somebody inside the Wild asked me to do one with Jarome Iginla before next week. I’ll try to get him on the horn.

You all see Peter Forsberg didn’t play last night due to a groin injury?

Houston G Barry Brust was named AHL Player of the Week.
