Eight games for Chris Pronger; Wild skate update

One day after Chris Simon wondered where’s the justice, Anaheim defenseman Chris Pronger was suspended eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler’s calf. The Ducks have nine games left.

Simon got a 30-game suspension for stepping on Jarkko Ruutu in December. After handing down the suspension, league disciplinarian Colin Campbell said, “While it was fortunate there was no serious injury to Mr. Ruutu as a result of Simon’s action, the deliberate act of kicking an opponent with an exposed skate blade, especially where the opponent is in a vulnerable position, is and always has been a repugnant and totally unacceptable act in the game of hockey.

“In addition, while the act itself was extremely dangerous, the fact that this is the eighth incident requiring the imposition of supplementary discipline on Simon compelled me to impose a very severe penalty in this case.”

Apparently, it’s not as “repugnant and totally unacceptable” this time. And by the way, this is also Pronger’s eighth suspension.

Benoit Pouliot obviously in for injured Steve Kelly tonight. Looks like Aaron Voros will be in for Simon. Considering his ice time after his fight, something tells me Jacques Lemaire didn’t like Simon fighting with a 2-0 lead the other night.

And, you know the hair on Gaborik’s head? Its not there anymore.

Nashville got a huge two points against Detroit today to equal eighth-place Vancouver with 80 points — two less than the Wild.

Good news, if you’re a Wild fan, is Colorado lost to New Jersey so remains two up on the Wild. If the Wild wins tonight, it’ll technically moved into first in the division based on one fewer game played.
