By Michael Russo

Just talked with the Vancouver Province writer and Roberto Luongo has flown back to Coral Springs, Fla., where his wife, Gina, is expected to give birth to their first child today.

Luongo is due back to Minnesota tomorrow, and he is expected to start, according to Province writer. Luongo’s second-lowest save percentage (.896) against any team is Minnesota.

Also, Brendan Morrison is done for the season after tearing his ACL last night in a collision with Ruslan Salei in Denver.

The Sedin Twins have combined for 14 points in the last five games.

Let’s hope for a LOOOOOOONNNG labor, with everyone being ok, of course.

- In the highlights, Luongo looked horrid last night.

- As a UFA, I feel bad for Morrison although I don’t like him that much for a top end player. I was curious if the Wild would take a run at him this summer.

GUBulldog says:

March 27th, 2008 at 12:55 pm

Didn’t Parrish’s slide coincide with the birth of his daughter? Let’s hope Luongo’s does the same.

Danny says:

March 27th, 2008 at 12:57 pm

Morrison would have been a nice fit with Gaborik, a fast, playmaking center.

Bandgeek says:

Bulldog, monkey mans wife will most likely stay in Florida, while he will be in Vancouver. A little hard to lose lack of sleep because of 3 am feedings and have it affect your game from that long of distance. But we can always hope.

El Gato says:

Baby names for the Luongos’

Boy - Giovanni
Girl - Sophia

and Marney (and hubby) - Grady Gellner? Cripes, you want your kid to get his arse kicked in school? That’s OK it’ll make him tough (like the Johnny Cash song ‘A Boy Named Sue’).

MPD is in parent’s basement listening to his Janis Ian records!

Russo ever hear why Pouliot was scrathed? Thanks klj

klj says:

scratched sorry

Bandgeek says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:09 pm

El Gato, Marney’s kid has her hubby’s last name so it’s not Grady Gellner, I just can’t remember what the name is right now.

kj says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:09 pm

Was that another Florida reference??? :P

I think they picked the name Grady ‘cuz GreenStar was already taken.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:10 pm

It’s Grady Greenstar.

GreenStar says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:14 pm

i would never allow any child of mine, boy or girl, to be named grady.

El Gato says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:17 pm

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

Dang it Gato, you beat me to it.

Voice of Reason says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Labor doesn’t necessarily need to be real long, just active at like, 6pm to 3am, with a noon flight back to MSP for the game tomorrow.

And a kid right behind him kicking his seat the whole way from Miami to MSP.

El Gato says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Mr. Russo, you need to revise the last line to ‘The Sedin SISTERS’! :-)

El Gato says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

VoR - you forgot to add the guy with the case of the drizzlers coughing on him all through the flight!

AustinTXwildfan says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:27 pm

In my world Grady is a dogs name.

It’s not as bad as “Apple” or any of those other awful movie star kids names. My favorite has to be Jason :ee’s kid.. his name is “Pilot Inspektor”. Awful name, but fun to say!

WildFan87 says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:28 pm

Too bad for Morrison, wonder if it will hurt his chances to get a decent contract in the offseason… Good for the Wild however and the playoff push, Hasn’t morrison done pretty well against Minnesota this year, I thought he has…. I don’t really like seeing people get injured but wouldn’t it be nice if one or both of the sedin twins could get injured and wouldn’t be able to play tomorrow night, haha…

AustinTXwildfan says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:28 pm

That would be Jason Lee. Not :ee.

mike (not that mike) says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Bandgeek: Marney’s hubby’s sur-name is something like Miathiason.

Rob says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:43 pm

am i wrong but did Gellnar and Michael Cuddyer date at one time?

Bandgeek says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:45 pm

Thanks Mike (non Lemming Mike) I thought it was something like that but I was drawing a blank.

Austin, Jason Lee can call his kid what ever he wants as long as he keeps making movies. I’m not fond of Earl but have loved all of his movie rolls (especially the one in Dogma).

GreenStar says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

i thought that was inga hammond, not marney

kj says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:49 pm

My favorite is still

Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette.

Penn Jillette’s (Penn & Teller) kid.

Voice of Reason says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:49 pm

I thought Inga Hammond was the village bicycle of the Twin Cities.

kj says:

VoR…I’ve seen her sports casts. More like the village idiot.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

I’m surprised Burrows didn’t pull something running away from Smyth last night. I think Smyth would have chased him all around the superelipse if he had to.

AustinTXwildfan says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

Hey Bandgeek, did you know that Jason Lee was a professional skateboarder back in the day? Check out this video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=mYIB0jMui-I
He is credited with inventing a handfull of tricks (most notably the 360 kickflip). He was quite good. I do love him as well. He is a funny dude. I loved him in Mallrats.

“Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette.”

Haha, that is pretty funny. I wonder if the kid will grow up to be a cop?

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

You are correct VoR. I think quite a few gents have spent time in Inga’s penalty box.

Deep Breath says:

March 27th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

Doesn’t matter if Jerry Seinfeld’s long-lost brother (Luongo) gets any rest or not. he was absolutely putrid last night and has been less than average against the Wild. No big deal. Get to 2 goals and you beat the Nux. Navycoats beat the Preds tomorrow night and the Wild clinch with a “W”.

DB I really hope your prediction comes true for tomorrow night. “Go, Go, Go, Go Wild!!” Hmm that sounded much better in high school.

My all time favorite celebs kid name, Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) named his daughter Harley Quinn, she’s named after a minion of the Jokers from the Batman comics, to funny.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

Sure would be nice to get some help from the Grease, especially against the Cows….

Every time you guys call them the Cows I think of South Park. The school mascot is the Cows.

Kirk Wise says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:06 pm

I wonder if Harley Quinn will be in ‘Dark Knight’? She’s popped up in most of the anmiated series.

It’s interesting that he picked a DC character. He always seemed like more of a Marvel guy to me.

Dampland says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:08 pm

How about “Oingo Boingo Luongo”
and just call him “Go” for short………

“Go Luongo”

sorry, I had a huge lunch, and am so stuffed I can’t think too well.

Speaking of Harley and unusual kid names, I know a girl named Harley Davidson.

Dampland says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

I too was wondering if Morrison would be a good fit for the Wild.

I’ve been trying to think who we could go after this summer, and I think he was on my mental list of potentials.

I think Stoll from the Grease would be good too.

Kirk Wise says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

It’s funny. Each night we will have a new “favorite other team” depending on where the points are.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

I don’t care what time Bobby Lu gets here, I just want to see Fred Sanford in net instead of Bobby Lu.

Kirk Wise says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

The wife, and I have number 3 on the way. We’re in the market for kids names.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Kirk, that’s why we gotta pull for the Grease to run the table. If we do our job and the Grease run the table, it’s a win-win for the Iron Range Red.

Bandgeek says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

Kirk he’s an equal opertunity comic reader. At least that’s what he’s always said. He’s just worked with Marvel on some books and movies so he got that reputation. I love how he works hockey into many of the movies with Jay and Silent Bob. Clerks: they play hockey on the roof, Mallrats: one of the characters wears a Vulgarians jersey (#37, and I have a replica in my closet), Clerks II, Randal’s hat is for the Leonardo Reapers, a Leonardo New Jersey team, you can get one of their jerseys from Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash and it’s on my birthday list.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

Kirk, if we win it all, no question…

Lord Stanley Cup Wise

Right thread this time:

Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ’s sake. It’s only the second period and I’m up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, Rene, but Hartford, “the Whale,” they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.

kj says:

Is Harley Quinn related to Martha Quinn?

Dr. Michaela Quinn Medicine Woman???

GreenStar says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

I think Stoll from the Grease would be good too

only if he brings ms hunter with him

Bandgeek says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:18 pm

Nailed it in one Buck. One of my favorite scenes from Mallrats, everytime I see the movie I say that line right along with him.

MSG says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:20 pm

Who cares about Luongo? They still have to find a defensive answer for Sean Hill.

Dampland says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Harley Quinn ….. sounds like “Harlequin”

Hey Kirk,

How about “Enachelle” if its a girl

(sound it out phonetically)

and if it is a boy, name him “Per” (pronounced Pear/pair)

it is a Scandanavian name …. then you son would be called “Per Wise” (PAIR Wise”

ok, just goofing around with you.

Congrats on the future little one however!

build from within says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Stoll=RFA.

Ricky Bobby’s sons: Walker and Texas Ranger (or TR, as we call ‘em.)

Thoughts on Huselius or Ryder? Can either of these two play center? (Ryder has 3 +25 goal seasons, is only 27, and averages more goals/season (26) than Rolston.

Voice of Reason says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:24 pm

With B-B-B-Benny playing pretty well, I wonder if the Wild really need a new center next season. With him, we’ve got Koivu, Shep and Bel. And from what I’ve read, B-B-B-Benny prefers playing center over wing, and he tends to be more productive at center.

I’d certainly hope that he could play on a regular basis, rather than getting Foy-like minutes.

Kirk Wise says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Yes we can all be Oilers fans from now to the end of the season.

Voice of Reason says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

What I’m trying to get at is maybe it would be better to try to get a guy like Smolinski who can play wing or center and is defensively responsible and then either re-sign Rolston or try to get another goal-scoring winger (Ryder and Huselius are appealing).

I think Demo would be a better re-sign option than Rolston, but I have a feeling he’s getting sick of playing center, and DR might have to write into his contract that he doesn’t have to play center if he wants to re-sign him.

Bethany says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Luongo may not be back…first births are the hardest…you never know how long they will last!

Kirk Wise says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:30 pm

Lord Stanley Cup Wise has a nice ring to it. Could never get the wife to buy in on that one.

One if my favorite pictures is my boy, and I touching the Holy Grail during the All Star festivites when the game was here.

build from within says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

VoR,

Nicely played. Genius, even. Rolston moves on for big bucks, we sign the MTL pair (Ryder/Smolinski).

That allows us to re-sign Demo…..WHICH, of course, is about the only way you can realistically expect to re-sign Gabby long-term.

Love the contract stipulation re: playing center. lol!

Hockeydad says:

March 27th, 2008 at 2:33 pm

Voice of Reason says:

I know there’s food, but this is more appropriate to this thread…why in the h3ll does luongo’s family live in Florida when he’s based out of Vancouver?? That’s quite the plane ride.

And on the subject of hotties (Ms. Hunter) one of the dudes from the T-wolves is dating the Victoria Secret model Adrian Lima..yummy.

Dampland says:

March 27th, 2008 at 4:13 pm

Phil,

Luongo used to play for the Florida Panthers, and I am guessing that the Mrs. refused to leave for cold Canada.

That was “supposedly” the reason that Pronger wanted out of Edmental, err I mean Edmonton.

plus maybe she hates hockey, and doesn’t want to watch the games.

Wild RoadTripper says:

March 27th, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Let’s hope the little tyke looks more like Gina than Roberto…

…for the love of God! Please! :P

And, for Phil: Luongo family lives in South Florida because he was traded from the Panthers to Vancouver prior to the 2006-07 season for Todd Bertuzzi, Alex Auld and Bryan Allen…of those three, only Allen is still with the Panthers…
