Wild to face Colorado in Western Conference quarterfinals; Wild’s 4-3 shootout loss to Avs
Posted on April 6th, 2008 – 4:29 PMBy Michael Russo
Ian Laperriere understandably had the Wild locker room all fired up after this one, which sets the stage for a fiery Western Conference quarterfinal.
The Avs tough-guy — 161 fights — landed about five punches on Marian Gaborik — first NHL fight in 485 games — at the end of overtime.
Here’s the fight on wildenforcers.com website.
This all started midway through the third when Laperriere waited for a rare Gaborik shift without Todd Fedoruk on the ice. He grabbed hold of Gaborik’s stick, basically got him in a collar and drove him hard into the glass. Gaborik punched back and both got roughings.
Then, at the end of OT, and knowing full well there were only skilled guys on the ice, Laperriere went right back after Gaborik — clearly to get in his head during the first round.
After the game, Gaborik had a bunch of bloody knuckles, but he’ll be OK.
But Derek Boogaard, who was scratched, made it clear he expects to play Game 1, and you know now he will.
There will be lots of coverage in the upcoming papers to prime everybody for the series, but this is not the same Colorado team the Wild munched on all year.
Adam Foote’s here, and playing well. And Peter Forsberg looks tremendous. He’s got three three-assist games in his last four now and 12 points in his last five, with a plus-8 to go with that.
The Avs’ forwards easily danced around the Wild end all night, and the Wild will have to figure out a way to shut down their firepower.
One thing’s for sure: the Wild should get lots of chances because Colorado takes risks around the net and turnovers can lead to odd-man rushes.
But it’ll be a difficult series.
As of now, the schedule has not been released by the NHL. I’ll be back on later. I’m going to head back to the hotel now because I’ve got lots of work ahead tonight.
I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Kent will update from Wild practice, I’m going to head to Colorado’s practice out here and will offer update from there.

If they play Monday and Tuesday in Colorado, this could be good knowing how good the Wild are on the second game of back to backs.
Should be a fun series. Will be interesting to see how much time the horsemen get against the less-physical-than Calgary Avs.
Gabbo?! He actually dropped his gloves… I’m in shock…
Gees Gabby!!! Someone beat the crap out of Laperierre!!!
I dropped this in the last thread too:
Laperierre doing his job…now he must die. First shift of game one, one of the horsemen needs to pummel him.
Laperierre didn’t even drop ‘em. Only Gabby did.
nice move by WOlski
Nummi’s a bit rusty, I’m thinkin’.
man…Sakic is just…money.
see ya on Wednesday, Avs!
Nummi = rusty and we are down with the SO!
Ahh well. We’re thinking Wednesday night for Game 1? Get everybody rested up and ready to go…
At least there’s no shoot-outs in the Playoffs. Hockey the way nature intended.
I think that was Laperriere’s way of asking for a Date with Boogie on Wednesday.
down = done
There will be blood!!!
let’s see pouliot in a shootout
I guess I shouldn’t be but I’m so pissed with the way that game ended.
Good point. That panzy a$$ Laperriere didn’t even drop his gloves. Wed. can’t come soon enough.
I am pumped for this series. It should be a physical and relatively high scoring series. Wild take the series 4-2…(and Lapperriere gets a broken nose.)
Anyone see who was the third man in on the Gabby/Laperriere mini tilt?
Nummi - another instance of a Wild shooter abandoning a move that has shown to ba almost unstoppable for something else. Don’t get it.
I agree with Greenbutt - Laperierre swinging at Gabby is like Fridge swinging at Sakic or Forsberg. Not only should Ian be hammered for that, but we need to be a little rough with their skill players - not cheap, just an appropriate amount of post-whistle pushing, some hands to the face, etc.
Hockeydad, I like your attitude! That was total BS. I thought the third guy was an Avs player.
or is the Avs strategy this - get all 3 of the Equipment in the game, which is potentially a mis-match in their favor given their skill guys.
Hannan was the third man in and got nothing of course.
3rd guy was McLeod, no?
yes, BNAG - Hannan
Who will be the first to punch Laperierre’s dance card later in the week?
A. Boogie
B. Simon
C. Fridge
D. Inglewood Jack
E. Noted pugilist Gabby
So now that the game is done what’s on TV? I don’t have CI so what do I watch now?…. OOoooooo Ace of Cakes is on!
The Avs just stirred up a hornets nest. I figured 3rd man in wouldn’t get anything. Just like Huskins or whoever for the Fowl came in, and tag teamed to take down Adam Hall last year. What a freaking joke.
A. Boogie….I think when reservations are made, his name is on the card.
I think BNAG is right about Hannon being the third man in. And what’s Mcleod doing out there in OT anyway???
Band, that’s awesome. Sadly, I flipped to that too…
Laperierre you just woke up the Boggie Man
Kirk, don’t worry, I’m sure CC will review the tape and do the right thing and assess a $.38 fine against Hannan for the third man in.
Thanks BNAG. I needed that. OK. Blood pressure slowly coming down.
I was wrong about McLeod - he wouldn’t have been on the ice on the PK. There would have been 2 d-men with.
BNAG, lol and also sad but true
Ok need to stop watching Food Network, I’m getting hungry.
Kevin: What happened to the Pens today?
One of the announcers on the Colorado broadcast mentioned Gabby leaving with one of the trainers. Is there any injury to be concerned with? Broken hand? God I hope not…
They didn’t seem interested in playing. Sid was given the day off, and the likes of Kris Beech were given power play time. I think they just wanted to avoid injury.
God I hope not — I hope its just to checking up on Gabby.
JL should not have put him on the ice. He was targeted by the Avs. JL didn’t play him for awhile until the last few minutes and in OT.
Here’s to hoping Oglethorpe heard wrong and that Russo will inquire further. My biggest fear was on the hook when Gabs seems to have gone down a little weird, but he came back on the ice, so I doubt that was an issue. Stupid move on Gabs’ part to have any involvement in that scuffle. The game was essentially settled, just skate away and whisper something to Simon.
Laperriere? Did he learn that from Alex Burrows? Or Matt Cooke? Or Jarkko Ruutu?
I’ve always known Ian was a weasel, today’s wimp-out against gaborik just proved it to me.
I hope you’re planning to enjoy that pre-game meal prior to Game 1, Ian. It will be the last solid food you’ll eat for a while.
At least until the jaw is fully healed after Inglewood Jack (or Simon, or Boogaard, or Fedoruk) gets done with you!
Gabby asks for it all the time and his teammates know this. He chirps, he starts things, and he got his medicine today. If Boogy or Feodruk or the Chief get involved, they know they’ll be in violation of the code. Lappy is a hockey player, he wouldn’t go after Gaborik without just cause. Gabby had been picking that fight all 3rd period and got what he wanted. Quit your whining. Put the goons on the ice if you want, the Avs will put the puck in the net while they’re galumphing around with their stone hands.
Oglethorpe heard right I was watching the same broadcast and they said an Av’s trainer went with Gabby to the locker room
Laperierre is on my sh*t list along with Foote for that two handed chop slash on Gaborik.
Why are the Avs taking cheap shots at Gaborik in a game that was meaningless at that point? Real classy.
Or course it didn’t get any mention on the Alt-homer-tude feed.
Dave’s - Laperierre goes after anyone and everyone - the guy seems to be in a fight every game.
IF Gaborik is hurt, what does that mean for the skilled players on the Avs?
I am with Hockeydad.
The Wild did not add toughness JUST to respond to others. They showed against Calgary that they can impose their will upon their opponent.
Laperierre must pay. But Stasny must pay first…
Russo! What’s the word on Gabby?
Dave’s, and Alan should go get a room. They can bond over there love of panzy a$$ coward hockey players.
kj, I must have missed something, what did Stasny do?
“Why are the Avs taking cheap shots at Gaborik in a game that was meaningless at that point?”
I agree, but why was Gaborik, Burns, etc. even in the lineup today? JL is mad that Burns gets in a fight protecting PMB last week, but dresses them for this game that means little to the Wild where they are open to stuff like this from the Lappy & Foote.
Go Inglewood Jack!!
laperierre you are an idiot…why wake up boogaard?
Who is Inglewood Jack?
Again, I hope its nothing serious but I didn’t think Gabby hit anything either.
RG…Stasny did nothing.
Send a message. Having Boogaard or whomever ‘go’ with Laperierre won’t stop him. However, since Stasny isn’t a fighter make him ‘aware’ of what happened today.
Inglewood jack is Brent Burns..someone may have the link explaining it all
Dave I don’t disagree that made this his battle but lets look at the play that stared it. It was silly to grab the Wilds leading goal scorer by the neck. Gaborik did a good job of jabbing back, If Leparrier doesn’t do anything else he hasn’t earened a heavyweight boubt, but he probably has eared a Voros or Velliux fight, you don’t get off the hook simply because a non fighter offers you a fight.
And Stasny seems like a good ‘target’.
Got it kj. Inglewood Jack is Burns.
Those players were in to keep them sharp, especially playing against the opponent they could well (and now will) see in the playoffs. I don’t have much of an issue with that — many coaches do this. But later in the game (especially in overtime when it’s officially pointless) the risk/reward is too skewed toward the former to warrant their being there. Put Pouliot out there to get some experience in crunch time. But what I’m most pissed about Gaborik is his staring down Lap. Skate away, guy. It’s not the manliest thing to do, sure, but you’ve got a C on your chest; you should be thinking about the team more than your pride.
Not really a who…
Gabby was skating away, Laperriere came after him after the obligatory pushing. Gabby didn’t turn his back to him cause you trust an idiot like IL to not take a cheap shot.
can’t trust
First whistle on Wednesday, I predict Boogie will be out there lined up as close as possible to Laperriere. He’ll stick his chin out, give him that look, and if Laperriere doesn’t go, I predict a rough game for Sakic and Forsberg.
To really confirm that the Avs get the message about not messing with the skill players, as soon as Laperriere gets out of the box, you line up Voros, Fedoruk, Simon, etc. Very quickly, I predict a change in Laperriere’s playing style.
It’s NOT ok to take Gabby’s head into the dasher in a cheap shot. And if Laperriere doesn’t go, then it’s time to take it out on Sakic. It’s incredibly low to do that, but if you give the Avs bench the choice, I think they’ll see the wisdom of letting Laperriere take a bloody nose and a missing tooth vs a possible injury to Sakic or Forsberg.
The replay I saw of the play that preceded it all was Gabby shooting (this was the narrowly-missed goal with about 2 secs left) and it looked like his follow through caught Laperierre in the mid-section. Ian went right after Gabby - I didn’t see that as Gabby’s fault - he was just standing up for himself.
On the other hand, on the play earlier in that period where Laperierre got the roughing call on Gabby, Gabby should have walked away from that scrum instead of throwing a shot himself.
About Gabby being hurt, did he even land a punch?
That clip never gets old, Dwayne…
Or Stasny. Or Liles. Or Wolski. Or Hejduk. Or Arnason. Or…
Don’t go after Stasny. Go after the heart and soul of the Avs. Sakic. They went after Gabby. But don’t do it unless Laperriere forces it by pulling a Matt Cooke or a Burrows and turning away.
JL said that Gabby was okay on the postgame comments. Or that is what it sounded like.
http://downloads.wild.nhl.com/podcasts/PONDCAST_828_POSTGAME.MP3
No official dates and times yet, right?
Laperierre 169 career fights.
Gaborik 1 career fight.
You tell me what’s up with that…
YAY!
Well said kj…
RG…they are supposed to announce that tonight after the Waddlers/Wile E.’s contest…
Gracias.
I missed most of the game. From highlights I saw on NHL Network- Harding looked pretty shaky and obviously looked Backstrom-like in the SO. Thank god we don’t have SO in the SCP! Laperrier will wish he hadn’t done that to Gabby long about 7:15 C.S.T. Wed….
I would doubt that JL would say Gabby’s hurting, because that means the Avs get to adapt their strategy for it, though the point may be negated by the Avs’ trainer’s knowledge of the injury. As most people noted, it didn’t look like Gabs did anything that could have hurt him, so hopefully he just needed directions to the pisser or just got a little cut on his hand.
Basically JL thinks the game was “fine.” He must have said that about a dozen times. His post-game comments do not disappoint.
Hey Flamers: Have fun in San Josee!
It looked like Gabby was holding his left wrist in the Tony Olson provided feed.
I am sure it was nothing serious, but Laperriere will pay.
Sucks to be the flames. Although maybe they can draw out a physical 7 game series with SJ before getting blown out in game seven.
Shark Bait! Brew Ha Ha!!
I think Flames are done in 5 myself.. San Jose is every bit and maybe even more physical than Cows IMO.
San Jose scares me more than any other team. Here’s hoping we get to play three series without playing them.
From what I saw, the bracket is setting up that we play them if we beat the Avs and the Sharks beat the Flames.
Listening to the post game comments from JL, he didn’t give up much. JL sounded like he would be ready for a physical game if needed.
Going to be a great serious.
Yeah, I’d rather play Calgary than SJ.
Laperriere is already trying to calm things down..
From NHL.com-
Things got a little chippy in overtime when Ian Laperriere and Marian Gaborik exchanged punches and drew five-minute fighting majors each.
“We kind of collided and then there was pushing and shoving,” Gaborik said. “We happened to drop gloves. Those things happen.”
Laperriere said he doesn’t expect the fight to carry over to the playoffs.
“A little push around, he punched me, I punched him back,” he said. “It’s intense out there. We’re going to see each other in the next couple of weeks, but I wouldn’t make a big deal about it.”
I’d be talkin in circles to get out of a date with Inglewood Jack!
who will be called up for the playoffs?
Meant…great series…oops
I was just on the Denver Post blog trying to engage in some friendly trash talk but that blog is dead. It was last updated on the 1st. I sure am glad we have the Don and #2.
The Cows will have to get over Mount Wannahakaloogie, and will be now known as Shark Bait!
Shark Bait Brew Ha Ha!!!
Playoff Party at house on the 65 inch screen.
walt, can you throw that link out here please? I had it and lost it, either that or I was on a different computer

I love all the talk about Lappy. If the Wild is as obsessed as their fans, Lappy’s done his job and the Wild’s focus will be off of hockey. Ha ha. Once again, “it’s all about Lappy.”
and Inglewood Jack? Oh come on now, Lappy’s taught bigger dogs than him to sit.
Jeez…what do you expect Gaborik to say???
Run the siren. Run the g-d siren. I’m payin’ for it.
Let ‘em know there’s gonna be blood in there.
Boogey will not fight below his weight class. That’s not to say he won’t crush him. But he won’t fight him.
MAYBE Fridge, but more likely a Voros (thought I don’t see him playing) or Burns (which is a WIN for Colorado).
Dave/Mike…
‘Lappy’ has done nothing - except arrange his own on-ice ’service’… ![]()
thanks Walt
Not that concerned…it will take two Boogie seconds to take care of Lappy.
After it is over the Fridge can skate over and hand him the business card of the plastic surgeon he used once Boogie crushed his face in.
The rest of the team will have 59 minutes and 58 seconds to destroy them on the scoreboard.
When the game becomes meaningless it’s impossible for an enforcer to do there job. The only reason Wild fans are awre of his pressence is because Gabby had the oppurtunity to take the physical play right back at him.
NiNY…under normal cirumstances, Boogaard would not take someone like Laperierre on. However, I think that he (or Simon) will - especially if Gaborik got ‘nicked’ up…
Dave - I hope Lappy is flexible. Cause he’s just bent over and kissed his A$$ goodbye for this playoff.
I think JL will make sure we don’t lose focus. That is, focus on winning not on Lappy. Lappy will get his at the appropriate time.
New York Nick’s right, if Boogy or Simon fights below their weight class, they lose a significant amount of face, and know it. Besides this has been blown out of proportion. Gabby ran his mouth and took some cheap shots and he got a little smack, it was nice to see him smack back instead of skating away with his visor on. The same thing has gone on with Forsberg his whole career. I thought Minnesotans understood hockey. Too many visored Euros and Frogs on the team I guess so the goons have fight for them. What happened to team toughness?
Yeah, but how much does Boogie even dress this series? I mean, beyond Laperia$$, those Avs aren’t much of a rough and tumble bunch.
Also, IIRC, Fridge and Laperia$$ danced in a game in Denver earlier.
I am not convinced Voros sees many games in uniform between now and the end.
Dave’s a killer.
Dave’s a mess.
eh, just checked and no record of any fight with Fridge - must be making it up.
Not sure I agree that Boogy or Simon wouldn’t be justified asking him to dance. To his credit, Brad May, who’s not a heavy weight by any stretch, gladly answered the bell when Boogie asked back in October. I think of May and Laperierre as same weight class.
Dave, don’t be a troll, we know hockey here…how do you know Gabby was running his mouth? If it were Sakic doing that and Simon threw a few, me thinks you’d be singing a different tune.
But you’re right about Forsberg…he’s always been a biotch…when there was talk of him potentially coming here around trade time, I was against it because he’s a wuss who provokes and then plays the role of victim when the retaliation comes.
“A little push around, he punched me, I punched him back,” he said. “It’s intense out there. We’re going to see each other in the next couple of weeks, but I wouldn’t make a big deal about it.”
Kind of sounds like Randy Carlyle’s take on the Brad May sucker punch last year.
D’sAK=Alan
I agree with NiNY, Boogie is out of his 6′1, 197 weight class. The Wild will forget about this, unless Laperriere goes after another skilled player. If he does, then the game will change.
I just expect a good ‘ol fashion beat down by Gaborik. He will flex his muscle with goals, not fighting.
What was with La Piece of Crap anyways? He went after Gabby and never dropped the mitts. Nice work, at least Gaborik had the decency to drop the gloves after being ganged up on.
I hope the Avs trainer doesn’t forget the teams Depends and Geritol for the road trip.
Gaborik with bloody knuckles. Wow!
Wow! I wonder how Gabby would feel if he read all these comments from his “fans” about how he needs his honor defended like a fairytale princess? I gained respect for him today for backing up his mouth and actions like a hockey player instead of pulling up his skirts and running to one of the three shreks. Again, where’s that team toughness the Wild supposedly has developed?
FYI: Pronger’s back. I’d love to see Carcillo CLEANLY (double entendre, entendre) break his leg.
I was gonna bring up the May thing too. As much as people want to say Gabby provoked it, Laperriere is the one who went after Gabby. If “lappy” can’t take a little jawing he’s as big of a pansy as we all suspect. And its a big stretch to think that this team is going to be distracted by such a little crap of a player like Laperriere. He’ll get his…
Lappy isn’t worth Boogie’s time or Simon’s for that matter. There are other ways to let the Avs know what will and will not be tolerated.
Ice - you know that’s why I was disappointed not to see Voros. We have to hope everyone stays healthy, the flu doesn’t ravage our line up again. That’s why I think they should keep everybody ready to play. Voros has alot of growing up to do but I think he’s got potential.
Phil..Forsberg the wuss? He fought Sean Avery a couple years ago, and all of his injury problems, including the ruptured spleen are because he doesn’t back down, he gives as well as he gets. What I meant was that if Gaborik is following that model, then I respect him more as a hockey player. Why should enforcers protect people who create their own trouble? You could tell he was running his mouth during that scrum in the third that landed the roughs, then he darn near spears Lappy, he was agitating and he’s done it before, like Forsberg, just nice to see him back it up.
Dave’sak: you might as well abort before you get too invested in this. No one here cares. If your team proves it on the ice, so be it. If not, we still don’t care.
You barely register in our consciousness beyond realizing that we have to skip over your sophomoric little rants to read something interesting.
Arrogant? If you want to call it that, and it makes you feel better, fine. Cocky? Nope. We’re the better team, as judged by the regular season. I realize the playoffs is a whole new bag, but what else are you going to base your expectations on? (I note that being the better team didn’t do too much for the Avs the last time we played in the playoffs, so they still have to prove it, obviously.)
I don’t really care what you call it. The bottom line is that you’re lint aroudn here as long as you’re trying to start crap. Want to talk puck? Fine. If you can manage to do so with some respect for the fact that you’re on a Wild fan blog, then have at it. We’re always happy to talk puck around here. But if all you’re trying to do is incite before mom and dad come down to the basement to check their email and you get kicked off the computer then you’re wasting your time.
NiNY - well deserved applause, my friend.
Listened to the JL post-game presser. Geesh, even for him that was close to the vest. He wouldn’t say anything of any value. He’s definitely in SCP form already.
Well said NiNY!!
Thank you NiNY…run away now troll.
Great point by the Don above. “Lappy” waited for a shift where Gabby wasn’t out there with Fridge. Gutless coward.
Come on Nick, that’s not fair, I caught Phil on all things avs the other day. Besides, youre the one who said Laperriere “must die” at 4:56. Who’s the Brad May now? I am talking puck, and more respectfully of Marion Gaborik then many of the others on this blog. Like I said, I respect him more now for handling things like a hockey player, and after the fact not talking about an opposing player “dying” . QTIP Nick. Quit Taking It Personally.
Love,
Dave
HockeyDad - Listening now…….
Wow lots of “we’ll see, we’ll see”
Well all that means is lots of fodder for this blog…:)
JL was right. The boys played fine. Not playoff hockey but fine. I think the way they played the previous 5 or 6 games (except Edmonton) are a better gauge of where this team is.
Dave’s aK-
I was just on all things avs. were are all the avs fans? Is this the reason that you are here?
This is hockey Dave, its always personal.
I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again but has this become a magnet for A$$HOLES or what……
I caught Phil on all things avs the other day.
oh my God…is that what this is all about? Retribution?
Phil, will you promise to stop antagonizing the little Avs fans and only bring legit hockey information to our oxygen-depraved friends, please?
Can I say that I am glad that Parrish got a goal? Hopefully, this will open the doors for more down the stretch.
LaDerriere is their toughguy?
Guys check out this out.
sunshine - that goal was HUGE for Parrish. He soooo needed that. He paid for it but he needed that. It was funny, just before he got that goal I said “Come on Parrish you need a goal so bad I’ll send you a check to buy one”.
Just then the better half walked in and said,”you sent Parrish a check?” You gotta love the man…..;)
Never Gonna Let You Down?
I’m with you sunshine. At one point, according to JL, Parrish was one of our skill players. It can only help the team for another guy to find his groove, and start producing offensively. We can’t rely on the “Grumpy Old Men” to keep scoring.
It’s still so bizarre to me how that voice comes out of a skinny white guy.
What would have been the exacta payoff on a Parrish-Carney ticket? Nice to see that the old guys can still make the twine move, although I’m not sure either goal got to the twine.
oxygen-depraved friends
NiNY…you do mean that because it is the Mile High City, and not because of Dave/Alan/Mike’s rectal-cranial inversion, right?
Honestly, Laperriere probably just fired up our tough guys for the first round. We should be thanking him. What a class(less) act.
I’m looking forward to this series. Go Wild!
PS-Phil, I think you need to prepare your Rickrolls a little bit better. As in, “Guys- check out this amazing fight between Martin Brodeur and Henrik Lundqvist at the end of the Rangers-Devils game! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
Wonder if this will force Colorado to dress and play Scott Parker now. He has been a fixture in the press box with a day to day injury for what seems months.
Be a good time to dust him off. Lappy cannot handle the Widow Makers.
kj: riiight… ![]()
Crap- just found out that I’m going to be out of the country for about a month. I will have my lap top, what are my options for watching the Wild?????
and how good is it?
Just think, dear Ian has made himself available for target practice!
Just remember, WIN THE GAME FIRST, then exact retribution…
Also, NiNY, I tip my hat to you.
Walt - Go to sopcast.com and download the software, simple directions for using it on the website. I travel a ton and use it.
Other option, go to Best Buy and buy a Sling Box, it connects to your cable box and your wireless network to transmit any channels you have on your home cable to your laptp, 100% legal.
Walt: that depends…is the country you’re going to called Canada by any chance?
WRT: this has the makings of a “point/counterpoint”, don’t you think? ![]()
Walt: I hope you don’t have a Mac. Sopcast is mainly for windows-based laptops. You can download sopcast to mac but there are a few more steps.
Here is a thread on the Wild board that tells you how to watch games on your computer.
Sling Box.
Wasn’t that developed by Billy Bob Thornton?
“You sold control of American weapons to a foreign country?!”
“Well if you can call Canada foreign.”
“Or a country!”
Anyone?
Kevin in Pa…
STRIPES?
KiPA…Spies Like Us?
NINY-
not Canada I’m going to be in Dubai. So no playoff hockey on T.V
sunshine-
I don’t have a Mac so I’ll check out that thread.
Thanks
Sling Box.
Wasn’t that developed by Billy Bob Thornton?
kj: mmmm hmmmm
Cam: Negative, though you’re sorta close.
kj: Negative.
Walt: yeah…Dubai doesn’t strike me as a hockey hotbed. Though there’s so much mother scratchin’ money there, I’m sure you can find the games somewhere…
Doh!
Canadian Bacon.
kj: maybe your dick’s not so dumb.
Man, I can’t believe your brought up SLU. One of my all-time favorites!
NiNY…Yeah, Spies is a classic that no one saw… ![]()
We have a winner, on kj’s second guess!
Congratulations! You win… uh.. well.. you done good, sport.
Dubai? Someone mention the next home of the Atlanta Thrashers?? There’s a lot of hockey fans there! Ask Gary Bettman!!!
I highly doubt they have sports bars in Dubai. Your best bet is going to Sopcast or getting an NHL subscription and watching it online. The NHL online package is half-price if you already subscribe to CI. I travel a lot, but it’s all domestic, and I only missed a few games this year. I have a DVR, and I have remote access to the DVR over the ‘net.
If Avery gave him a fight then at least according to Avery he’s a wuss.
Spies Like Us. Frank Oz RULES!
NiNY: Point/Counterpoint? OK with me…go for it!
BTW: Blogosphere Call in the next two days??
Hey - where is the rumor about the game being on Wed for sure? I haven’t seen anything on sites about Wed or Thurs, so just wanted to know if the Wed rumor sounds pretty solid…?
NINY- that’s what i’m thinking, people use hunskies for toilet paper there. I just want to make sure
Oh yeah…the one decent movie Michael Moore produced.
Walt, have fun in Dubai. Heard it is wonderful place. Extremely wealthy. Like NiNY said, you should be able to find somewhere over there that has the games. They love America…not to sure about hockey though.
I’m going to be in freaking Austin, TX for game 2! (That’s a foreign country all right) And I have playoff tickets, sheesh. Unless we play Wed and Fri and I can somehow change my plane tickets.
wood: sure…you diss Austin, TX when Austin’s not around here to defend himself! ![]()
Dubai — didn’t they make a fake ski slope or something along the lines in one of their malls?
Have fun and stay in touch with Russoville.
Walt: if they don’t know much/care much about hockey over there yet, I think you should apply to be Minister of Hockey or something. Hell, you might be able to MAKE money on this deal!
Try this Walt:
Walt: all may not be lost…

sunshine- Ya they do if I have time I’m going to check it out along with all the other crazy stuff they have like the world islands
Oh God!! As a Canucks fan, this is my worst nightmare. My two most HATED teams in the Western Conference up against each other. I don’t want either of you to win.
I wanted the Wild to play Calgary and the Avs to play Dallas so you could both lose.
Any chance you could both lose? This sucks.
Hmmmm…
An NHL team in Dubai???
The Dubai Dunes?
Do you think maybe they’ll move the Oilers??? ![]()
Alan…go back to being Dave’s a killer…you were funnier that way.
NiNY-
WOW i’m going to bring my skates, maybe I can get a pick up game going!
They build snow hills and ice rinks while Omaha builds their lifestyle.
Thanks guys — I was hoping I wasn’t pulling the ski in the mall thing out of thin air.
Dubai has some crazy stuff over there. Way too much money to spend.
Hey, it’s not our fault you guys kept starting Luongo even though it was fairly obvious his mind was elsewhere. The guy just had a kid 2000 miles away, and you fly him back all jet-lagged to become Mr Sieve.
Back in the closet monkey! Did I tell you that you could read and write. No ice cream for you.
I like how you guys think that there’s only 1 Canucks fan on this board and we are all the same person.
News flash! There’s more than 1 person in the world who hates the Wild. Sorry that your arrogant heads can’t take that fact.
You guys are so scared now. Theodore’s on fire, and you’ve got Sakic, Stastny, Forsborg to deal with against the unexperienced Backstrom.
At least there won’t be any shootouts in the playoffs - doesn’t Backstrom have the worst NHL record in shootouts this season?
Wow Bandgeek. You keep a tight leash on the Mr.
Carcillo has 2 tonight for the Coyotes…
Please enjoy our board Alan. Enjoy watching some playoffs hockey this year. It will be nice without the Canucks.
Not really Kirk, he gets snarky if I don’t yank the chain once in a while.
he gets snarky if I don’t yank the chain once in a while.
I bet he does, if you know what I mean.
I think the Wild used up its good will on shootouts last year. We received 32 points from shootouts. The Oilers received about 30 points.
Without those shootout points last year, we probably would never had made it into the playoffs.
Its kind of funny that the Oilers run this year was similar to the Wild’s last year except that we went on a longer winning streak.
Have to remind him who cooks dinner… oh wait, it’s starting to be grilling season, that means he takes over cooking, never mind.
Thanks for the update Russo.
I kinda figured the locker room would have been a little miffed at ‘Lappy’.
Alan…dude…the season is o-v-e-r.
How many days until the draft? At least you have the lottery show to look forward to tomorrow night.
You guys are so scared now. Theodore’s on fire, and you’ve got Sakic, Stastny, Forsborg to deal with against the unexperienced Backstrom.
My stomach hurts from laughing Alan.
Only two takers for playoff hockey so far. I created a Russoville private league at NHL.com. kirkwise@juno.com
Personally, I think the trolls are really jealous Timber-puppy fans.
“don’t open your eyes, you won’t like what you see…”
Yeah it’s over for us but the playoffs continue….
I’m just here to encourage you guys given how much BETTER your playoff record is than ours (you guys NEVER choke at all do you?).
I’m just here to cheer you guys on. As a fan. Before your team moves to Texas again.
That’s 5 goals for Carcillo in the last two games? Wow. We were just talking about him the other day too.
Off topic but Congratulations to Brent Burns for playing all 82 games!!!
Check out my compilation of Backstrom shootout blunders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
Burns is the only one to do that this year sunshine. Schultz would have as well but for getting sick tonight.
Hey that most recent comment wasnt from me (the video one)
While we’re posting youtube clips… I have no words to describe this one. Just watch.
Alan:
Who cares! Its not like anyone here don’t know that Backstrom has the worst shootout record for a goalie.
We aren’t going to deny it. Stats don’t lie.
Sorry, then, Alan (the real one).
Alan/Mike…suffering from multiple personality disorder?
There’s a certain troll that likes to ‘pretend’ he’s (if it really is a he) someone else just so he can ‘fool’ us.
I am so confused…Mike please stop…I am going to cry…boo hoo…boo hoo.
Have a tissue kj.
Kevin: Don’t be afraid? I will be until I get me one of those flutes.
Kevin in PA: too hilarious. I love the drawing. I hope the person who came up with scheme made some money.
I hope your great-grandfather was Irish, Kirk!
And sunshine, yes, the drawing is one of the two best parts of that. (The other is the guy screaming I’m gonna get that gold. Or that guy in the beginning with the horrible, horrible teeth.)
Kevin, thank you for that giggle.
Thanks bandgeek…these trolls just get me so…so…weepy that I just stomp my feet!
How can they be so mean? sniff, sniff.
Is that the same leprechuan that frightened Garth?
I’ll list my ISP, my mailing address whatever, each time I post if I have to.
It’s not my fault this stupid website doesn’t have a “registration required” or anything. I’m not the immature one posting under multiple names.
The only reason I’m wasting my time on here is because you Wild fans and your cult leader Russo showed such disrespect to my team this season. Unfortunately, you reap what you sow.
Party on kj!
With less than 7 minutes to go it was obvious that we were going to be playing the Av’s in the 1st round. I am bothered that after the 1st Gaborik incident midway through the 3rd period we didn’t immediately react to LaPerriere and flatten him on the next shift… Better yet fight him and send that message now. We cannot risk starting a fight in Game 1, drawing penalites and getting behind the 8 ball. We will not retaliate in game 1… I just hope the Wild have learned from last years playoffs, but they showed no indication of that late in the 3rd when Gaborik was allowed to be abused.
Just a thimble full of Scotch-Irish Kevin. Although my boy has been playing games at Lucky Charms.com lately so I think we’re covered.
I want them to put that sketch on the side of a milk carton.
Kirk: I think you’re prepared enough.
I didn’t realize the Cows were 3-1 against the Guppies this season.
Completely off topic. Does anyone know why the Avalanche picked the colors they did for their uniforms? I know sports teams have to be memorable but Colorado’s always struck me as muddy and indistinct.
Turris gets tapped by Gretz in the shootout…and scores…
Sunshine…Pardon me if someone already responded and I missed it. But further up you said “the bracket” showed us playing San Jose in the second round. There is no “bracket” to the SCP. The teams are re-seeded after each round. In this case, if all the top seeds win in the first round, then yes, we would play San Jose. But if, for example, Nashville beats Detroit, SJ wins, we win and the Stars beat the Ducks, then the Sharks become the top seed, we’d be #2, and the second round would be Sharks vs. Preds, and Wild vs. Stars.
So in the second round, our opponent could be any of the teams below us (except the Avs, of course) or the Sharks. It all depends on who wins in the first round.
That’s why it was stupid for Channel 5 to show that bracket this afternoon, and why it’s just another example of Dumb and Dumber’s stupidity that they couldn’t explain that to people.
NiNY: I didn’t get to see that. Did he make a move or just shoot?
Kirk: went in with speed, pretty much straight in (stayed in the resurfaced area), looked like he gave a slight shimmy and the roofed it stick side I think. Nice, quick, accurate shot.
c’mon, NHL, release the schedule already!! I’d like to start making some plans here. How hard can it be?!?!
Man… don’t remember so much clutter this time last year. Does this mean we’ve arrived?
Hockeydad: Patience, impatient one..the Force is with us…we must see what is out thre to avoid…indoor lacrosse…Dora the Explorer…Ice Capades and Disney on Ice…and the most avoidable of all:
Van Halen! ![]()
Between the Hawks & Yotes it’s going to be interesting watching all these youngins’ develop over the next couple years. And to see how long they stay with some of these teams.
bang on, toivo
Not to mention the Oil, Kirk. Good young talent there, too.
FYI, Gaby finishes tied for 6th in the league with 42 goals.
Three players finished with 50+.
I think we can put the “Lemaire is holding him back” theory to rest now…whether or not GABY thinks so is another question…
Yes HD. Good point. It will be interesting to see who gets displaced next year by up, and coming teams. I suppose you could add St. Louis in there too. It could be even tighter next year.
“Lemaire is holding him back” ranks right up there with “I thought about blowing the whistle”. Yes I’m bringing it up again. Not because I’m bitter about the non-goal. Because those are quite possibly the two most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard in my life.
I think if Gaby plays 82 games he gets 55-60 goals next year, like NiNY JL is not holding him back

Speaking of Van Halen (I’m actually a big fan) Fox 9 just ran the lamest promo for the Avs/Wild playoff series with “Right Now” playing in the background.
Sammy Hagar and the Wabos are playing on HDNet for all the Van Halen fans
Midnight snack up from the Don.
Holy Crap, I come back after watching Star Wars III and there is troll Dave suckin’ Forsberg d1ck and another “phil” has posted a wussy rick austin video…sorry imposters, people here know if it ain’t Joe Satriani, I won’t be linking to it…
Alan, I thought we were making progress, alas I guess not..
NINY, I made a friendly, general comment on the AV’s board, nothing trollish like Dave here so from him to compare my comments to his is as weak as his explanation for Lapierre going after Gabby..
I’ll be posting this on the next thread too.
Kevin in response to your leprechaun link…
FINE PHIL!! BLAME IT ALL ON ME! As for Forsbergs d1ck? you are such a douche. But I believe the response is “all I can get”. Joe Satriani? You are a douche! And besides it was Rick Astley, not Austin, you douche.
Oh and Phiiillll… Star Wars three is crap too. Further confirmation of your lack of taste. I thought it all had to do with hockey, but I underestimated you.
Wallshot: (Giggling hysterically.)
For the guy who doesn’t like “outsiders” being here, well it is the internet, get use to it…swing by russo’s rants in the Star Tribune, hockey lover’s all there and we’re usually pretty hard on our team and sometimes even entertaining..
Comment by phil — April 3, 2008 @ 10:20 am
You were right Phil, about the entertaining part. hard on your team? No. Just a hard on for your team.
ESPN’s site says first game is Wed, start time is 9pm and I’m guessin that’s Eastern time. I’ll be in San Jose/Palo Alto for work. Anyone know of a good sportsbar that’s likely to show the game out there? I didn’t have time to hunt one down when out there several weeks ago.
On another note: Does anyone know if Laperriere wears a mouth guard? I’m wondering what the over-under is on lost teeth on Wednesday?
Don’t know about the mouth guard.
Here’s some footage of him getting his $hit tossed, though.
http://www.viddler.com/explore/RickRoll/videos/1/
All things Avs is fresh now. Have at it Wild fans. “Clutch and grab” at the issues, but don’t get “trapped” talking about “non-hockey” issues. You are ALL purists and experts after all.
RickRoll was funny last year. And it was funny this year on April 1st.
I guess in the future, it’s probably a better surprise if you leave the title RickRoll out of the URL.
“Crap- just found out that I’m going to be out of the country for about a month. I will have my lap top, what are my options for watching the Wild?????
and how good is it?”
Sopcast is unreliable at best
Here in europe we watch espn/360/europe. Google it for link.
On topic i find it sad, that your biggest heroes seems to be the guys that failed making careers in boxing.
On the series, i think(even though i think forsberg is awesome), that wild will win it. They seem to have more depth and are way better in their own zone.
Ugh…..Here we go again. We had the same problem with bandwagon Ducks fans last year invading/ruining our blogs at playoff time. Isn’t there any way to keep them out?
Will be at the game on Wed with my Inglewood Jack jersey on. Here’s hoping Boogs treats Lap. like he usually treats Shelley……
