Game 3 update

Posted on April 14th, 2008 – 2:12 PM
By Michael Russo

I’ll be on KFAN later this 2 o’clock hour.

Hello, hello from balmy, beautiful Denver, where the Wild and Avs are prepping for Game 3 tonight — the first of back-to-backs in the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Branko Radivojevic (knee) is out tonight, and likely out tomorrow. Aaron Voros has been told he’s playing, and Jacques Lemaire said after Friday’s game Chris Simon would play.

However, this morning Lemaire was noncommittal when it came to his lineup. He said he’d dress 21 players during warmups, meaning one extra guy.

It sounds like the extra will be right-handed shot Matt Foy. Lemaire said he’s not happy with the way left wing Stephane Veilleux’s been playing at right wing. In order to remedy that, it appears as if Lemaire’s considering playing Foy so Veilleux can switch back to left wing.

Still, Radivojevic is a serious loss. Now, the Wild essentially won’t have a checking line, and considering Colorado has two first lines, you can’t have enough checking lines.

Lemaire went on and on about the impressive play of defensemen Kim Johnsson, Martin Skoula and Brent Burns this morning, as well as the play of Brian Rolston — who’s been tremendous.

Rolston’s played a part in all five of the Wild’s goals.

As for Colorado, it sounded like there’s a chance Jordan Leopold could get into the Avs’ lineup, but that’s not confirmed.

Also, Wyatt Smith is on Colorado’s taxi squad now that Cleveland’s season is over.

In other news, have you ever heard of a league arbitrarily inserting a rule in the middle of the postseason? But after Sean Avery’s unsportsmanlike attempt to throw Martin Brodeur off his game yesterday by jumping up and down, waving his arms and fake slashing him in the head, the NHL has added the following rule:

MEDIA ADVISORY –

INTERPRETATION OF RULE 75 – UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT

NEW YORK/TORONTO (April 14, 2008) — National Hockey League Senior

Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell

today issued the following advisory on the interpretation of Rule 75 -

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: “An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty (Rule

75) will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation

when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender

and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the

goaltender’s face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or

distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play.”

That’s it for now.

Avery is a scumbag of the highest order.

Mark S says:

Good call on the new rule. What Avery did was certainly “Unsportsmanlike” and Bush league. Has no place in the game of hockey.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:20 pm

All that is missing is the fine from CC for Avery totalling $1.18 and 50 lashes with a wet noodle.

DP says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:20 pm

Indeed.

Reid says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

it was terrible. I had never seen something so blatantly stupid. I can’t wait till someone gets a little justice for that. I never really cared for NJ, but now I want them to win since avery is such a tool.

Nick in New York says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

I have no problem with the “interpretation”, and the timing is obvious, but it still smacks as a little too extemporaneous for me.

Might be old news, but if you haven’t seen this, hold on to your hat:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/03/29/2008-03-29_sean_avery_in_hookers_black_book.html

NOW whaddya think of Avery???

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

Yeah, I saw that, bfw. One of the Pittsburgh papers did a little blurb on that. Apparently a lot of faces in the Penguins locker room lit up when they heard of the trash talking potential from that.

kj says:

You’d think they would enforce existing rules (oh, I dunno…like the one about goaltender interference) before they go to new and improved ones.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

kj, Foppa has the Swedish exemption from that rule. It’s very similar to the White Border Option on stop signs.

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

kj - lol, that would be way to easy, just like refs missing a bunch of high sticking penaltys and then calling something they have not called all game. :)

joeythelemur says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

I knew there was some reason he wound up in NY. He and Spitzer probably bumped into each other a few times. ;-)

I’m not a lawyer, but is it right that the attorney for the madam is threatening to publicly release all the names in the book? Is that legally defensible? Not sure how that helps his client and is pretty scummy to say the least.

And Avery’s antics on Brodeur made me sick. I was waiting for MB to plant his goalie stick in Avery’s crotch.

El Gato says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

joey, that would have made Avery’s use for the madam…ummm useless.

Nick in New York says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

so…from Elisha Cuthbert to pay-per-view…I’d call that going downhill.

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Russo on KFAN - thinks Foy will be in tonight.

Dave says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:47 pm

You got THAT right, NiNY!

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

NiNY - lol, I do think it was more then just “view”ing going on…… :O

Nick in New York says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:49 pm

good point, BDS…how about “pay-to-play”? ;)

Max says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

The Don is on KFAN now. Man we are lucky in MN, this guy is the BEST in the business. And it ain’t even close.

Really jacked up for this game tonite. Time to knock some heads and punch the Avs in the mouth. This team is resilient and I think they may be something special. LOVE playoff hockey…

BTW: Best Pregame Spot is Shamrocks Irish Nook located down West 7th. Best burgers in the Twin Cities, lots of cold beer on tap, vibrant place, and then a free shuttle to the X…Does it get any better than this???

Dave says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

Can we stop talking about this now? I don’t like where it’s headed.

sunshine says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:51 pm

We are losing a player a game! That is crazy!

Dave says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:51 pm

Avery and….you know, I mean.

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:52 pm

NiNY - yeap, and any way you slice it sure is downhill…..

kj says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:52 pm

Elisha Cuthbert?

Wow…her and Avery were an item?

I now give up on her for life.

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:54 pm

kj - for some reason Sean has always done very well with the ladies.

AustinTXwildfan says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

So my luck just got way worse. I am pretty sure I will not be able to watch any more playoff hockey. I have been told that our new schedule will run from 8am to 10pm Monday through Saturday. This is not good news. Granted it’s only for three weeks (tentatively), but I am going to miss a ton of games. Seriously, sometimes I question my desire to work in the game industry. Ugh.

kj says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:56 pm

BDS…should I take the obvious shot???

kj says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

ATX…you have 14 hour days???

Dude…come on over to the dark side… (.Net)…

build from within says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

NiNY,

At $500, that’s one HELLuva ante.

And…it could be worse. At least he wasn’t involved with a certain ass-less chap wearin’ celeb.

Now THAT, my friends, is downhill.

LOL.

Ash says:

ken says:

April 14th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Jacque continues the lovefest with Skoula. He must have forgotten so quickly that Carney got the game winner Friday night. Skoula can do no wrong in Jacque’s eyes. Even if he put it in is own empty net Jacque would have an excuse for it.

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

kj - fire away! Can’t get much worse we’re already talking chaps. :)

AustinTXwildfan says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Yeah kj, for the next three weeks at least. the project HAS to get done… and we don’t ahve a lot of time. It’s going to be rough. But I will likely get some nice time off once the game ships… which is the nice part. but I would rather watch playoff hockey!

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Ken - hold on there my friend, no way you can that crititcal of Mr. Martin Skoula on this blog any more. He is playing his best hockey of the year and we need his minute munching ability to reach the next round. Oh yeah and I promised to be only positive when mantioning Skoula so my bar tab would be forgotten. :)

Carney had a huge game Friday, by the way. Keep it up we need it.

GO WILD!

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Ken- It’s post season and Skoula is here to stay. Show the love to the man eating 26+ minutes a game and who after 52 minutes of tight hockey and playing injured is only a -1. I.. I…I am proud of Skoula. There tough to get out, but easier after a solid 2 months of playing.

woodcock says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:10 pm

The hockey gods sure have something against the Wild. We lose Foster then Schultz then Parrish, nearly Skoula then Branko yet we soldier on. We need some breaks (but not our bones). Get some goals Gabby and let’s win tonight.

Nick in New York says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:10 pm

Austin: that stinks!

Anyway you can at least get the radio feed off the website??

Adam says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:10 pm

Lets Go Skoula! clap-clap-clap-clap-clap

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

woodcock - are you watching the game at home or at one of Woodbury’s finer establishments?

Good old Wally says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

I say good for the NHL for making a change on the fly learning something new from the creative Sean Avery about how to distract a goalie. I say that is a step in teh right direction for the NHL

AustinTXwildfan says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

NiNY, yeah i should be able to do that. So at least I will know what is going on.

Max says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Rosen now talking hockey with Chad Hartman on the FAN…Hmmmmmm

kgopher says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Kudos to Broduer for keeping his cool, and to for being able to see past that to make a few nice saves. I could see some goalies getting a penalty for retaliating.

Joe Wants the Cup says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

I can’t stand Hartman, complaining about garbage goals and stuff…thats part of the game…get over it.

Target says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

I would like to see Avery do that in a game where there is a 4 goal difference, and as a result eat a goalie stick.

Nick in New York says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

obviously this is a rhetorical question since we wouldn’t know until it happens…

…but what if Avery does that to Backstrom…when Simon is on the ice?

phil says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

NINY, you’re on fire today! 1st extemporaneous and 2nd pay-to-play…hopefully that mojo you got working there will spill over onto the Wild!

Austin, from previous thread, Holy Shat you work some hours…I love gaming but don’t know if I could work on ‘em like that..

BDS says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:21 pm

NiNY - That could potentially end two hockey careers and I’m not sure I would want to watch it. :)

AustinTXwildfan says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:23 pm

phil, it’s not always like this. But it’s definitely part of the gig sometimes. Hopefully it doesn’t last too long.

woodcock says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:23 pm

BDS, at home. Rosen and Chad!!! Do they know anything more than it is played on ice? Why do we continue to harp on Skoula? The guy has proven to be a warrior. Sure, he made some glaring errors earlier in the season but he has sure helped us and without him you would be watching an injured minor leaguer.

phil says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:26 pm

Austin, from gamers eveywhere, you have our gratitude and respect!

GUBulldog says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:26 pm

I do not even think Cooke would pull something like that. By the way, Matt Cooke still sucks!

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:27 pm

It’d be nice if the NHL suspended Avery a game.

Or if someone castrated him.

toivo says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:27 pm

ATX: is a sling box an option? I mean it may affect your productivity and all, but 84 hour weeks… how productive are you going to be?

And just remember, when you stay up two nights in a row on speed, it’s impossible to put on a good show the third night. I think Paul Westerberg said that.

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Then made him eat the castrated parts.

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:28 pm

Wood- I think most that peruse the blog on a daily basis have had plenty to comment on/read during the regular season, PPMS (Post Popcorn Making Skoula). This topic seemed to be a bonding issue that pulled all Wild fans together. Old dog/new trick type of thing.

AustinTXwildfan says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:28 pm

thanks phil!

toivo… I will have to think of something to allow me to watch somehow. Maybe some of the games will show online and I can watch while I “work”.

joethelemur asked if it was legally defensible for the madam to release names: yep, all potential witnesses. She hasn’t released it yet because there are some rich/powerful people afraid of being ruined…so, it’s all politics: if you don’t squeal, you get time served for good behavior…blah blah blah. Same old story…if you our i were on the list, we’d already haved served time for solititation and have been sserved with divorce papers from the wife!

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

Sean Avery is the lowest form of life that ever walked, crawled or slithered on this planet (I haven’t decided whether Avery is in the “crawled” or “slithered” department.) If I was starving to death and my only option for survival would be to eat Sean Avery, I would rather my body whither away than to poison my insides with Avery’s foul, rancid remains. If Sean Avery held the key to the gates of Heaven, I’d phone down to Hell and tell Satan I’m making a reservation. If… well you get the idea.

How’s that, toivo? ;)

P.S. I do not like Sean Avery.

GreenStar says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

ok, i just watched what avery did and i am not sure i get the uproar. i could see it if he touched marty but he didn’t. he “faced” him to use a basketball term.

I’d be more concerned with where the NJ defensemen were.

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:40 pm

You bring up a valid point about the NJ defensemen, G*, but you don’t wave your stick around in someone’s face.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:41 pm

KiPA, how about if they sliced and diced those parts and boiled them in a nice stew and served them with a fine chianti? Would that do?

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:43 pm

Green* There is a reason this is not commonplace in the game. To stand in front of the goalie and threaten to hit him over the head with a stick. Even his own player moved in close to him after the ref warning and said, “Avery don’t be such a tool.” At least that’s what he appeared to say, but the clip wasn’t in HD so tough to read his lips.

build from within says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:44 pm

KiPA,

With all due respect, this may be YOUR opportunity to switch to decaf! jk.

LOL.

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:44 pm

No, BNAG, because stew is good, and performing that act would be to violate the wholesome essence of stew. Stew would become tainted until the end of days.

Those parts must be raw.

…maybe served with haggis. That could work.

woodcock says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:44 pm

I didn’t see the Cooke-Lecavalier hit but it sure wouldn’t surprise me if it was a terrible cheap shot. Glad he is in the East.

GreenStar says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:45 pm

honestly, i didn’t see him waiving his stick at his head. he held it up to his head but i never saw an attemt to hit him with it.

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

Your advice will be taken into consideration, bfw.

Sean Avery to me is basically Matt Cooke times 10 (or a few more zeroes) to the rest of you.

Nick in New York says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

KiPA, your last name isn’t “Cuthbert” is it?

joeythelemur says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

I wonder if Avery thought of his antics long ago and just decided to keep it in reserve until the playoffs where the defensemen would be far less likely to take his head off. If this were the regular season, I think somebody creams him.

I’m thinking that Avery wouldn’t have gotten away with it in the Scott Stevens era.

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:47 pm

Of course he didn’t try to hit Brodeur, otherwise he might’ve gotten a penalty.

Nick, nah, I need no special reason to hate that chicken$h!t p*ssy ba$tard.

Beaver says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

Good Ol Wally, you hit the nail on the head again. You are one smart individual!

Nick in New York says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

I read a story about Avery once where he was chirping at Shanny (when Shanny was still in Detroit) during a game and so Shanny skates past the Kings bench (on which Sean was sitting at the time) and said something to the effect of: “You know what? Lose my number. I’m tired of you calling me and b!tching about your teammates all the time.”

I just pictured all the other Kings players looking at Avery like “umm…excuse me?” after that.

Great line.

Adam says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:50 pm

I’m thinking that Avery wouldn’t have gotten away with it in the Scott Stevens era.

Avery would be to MSG what Jimmy Hoffa is to Gieants Stadium!

build from within says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:52 pm

Didn’t Holmstrom pull a similar move a few years back, using his open hand (and maybe stick blade) during one of those epic playoff battles (vs. Roy and the Av’s, I think.)?

Adam says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:52 pm

- Gieants = Giants

- Beaver - you need to back up GoW sooner or it is lost on everyone.

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:53 pm

I just watch again and Avery’s teammate said, “Dude cut that out before someone on the Devils team grows a pair and takes you out.” You can hear the coach on the bench though yelling, “Englewood Jack! Englewood Jack! MF!” Once again hard to make out with the whole fuzzy clip.

JEFFS468 says:

GreenStar says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:56 pm

It was a 5 on 3 so that must be where the d-man was.

i think your disdain for avery might be making this into a bigger thing…from the video in stead of putting his back to marty he faced him and held his stick up at eye level, sometimes just trying to put a glove in marty’s vision. i’d think different if he actually tried to get marty to flinch by swinging his stick at his head without intent to hit him. that is not the case. that will be about the end of my thought as it is a complete waste of time, IMHO

joeythelemur says:

April 14th, 2008 at 3:57 pm

I didn’t say anything ’bout twig and berries, the context though does lead one there. I am rather tired of all the blocked shots, I hope we are able to step around and make them look silly laying on the ice as we score a goal.

BoogieNeedsAGoal says:

April 14th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

WF926, I’ll give you the childbirth one, but:
a. You know child birth is coming and are able to prepare
b. On average you only give birth 2-3 times where you can be struck in the twig and berries from birth to death and it hurts just the same
c. Women get sympathy from EVERYONE after child birth, guys get sympathy from guys after getting drilled in the twig and berries. That sympathy consists of “DUDE…. sucks to be you.”

wildfan926 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

You have a well-stated argument and I do agree with all the points. I will refrain from making any further comments along those lines.

May I wish for Rolston to break someone’s helmet like he did Harding’s? That would certainly give anyone pause to trying to block one of his shots.

SO here I was, thnking I was just opening an innocent article about a hockey player on my computer at work, and up pops that Blonde pops up, bosom and all. A bit embarrassing since I work with a bunch of 50yr/old women!

phil says:

April 14th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Upon further reflection I would have brief sympathy for Matt Cooke (if he has them) getting hit in the T&B’s along the lines of AWW MAN! MATT! that had to hurt! …serves you right you cowardly piece of shat!

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 4:51 pm

that Blonde pops up

Maybe I shouldn’t say this, but I hope that was the only thing that popped up.

Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all week. Try the veal.

The good thing is Mrs. BNAG and the little BNAG’s will be in bed at game time or shortly after, so I can watch it in peace!!!!

Speaking of blocked shots, an unscientific viewing of the last game leads me to think that Veilleux gets way too many of his shots blocked. It’s interesting to note Russo’s comment about Veilleux. I love the guy’s hustle and effort, but he seems sort of immune to criticism here. Foy, Voros and Simon might be the answer tonight.
And ATX, how about TiVo? Wild win, watch it when you get home. Avs win, delete it. Just a thought.

wildfan926 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 4:58 pm

Foy is high engergy, theres no doubt, but all his press box time might make it rather difficult for him to get his energy pointed in the right direction. I sure hope he does well, I won’t to see a win tonight.

slapshot6 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:06 pm

The better half said the same thing about Avery, GreenStar. I said he was an ass and he said “but he didn’t touch him. What are you going to call him for?” and I said “Unsportsmanlike” or just being a tool.
And why were the officialsuseing their interpretational skills on that one. Good God the ref was right there.
And how pissed was Broduer after the little twit scores….

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:08 pm

That was funny BNAG! In all fairness I did say I wouldnt wish a Rolston slapper on a fellow human being…so Cooke is fair game.

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:12 pm

SS6- I agree the NHL should have a “just being a tool” penalty. It would be funny to see the ref making the hand gesture on that call. Then the announcer say, “Avery Two minutes for being a tool at 14;53.”

slapshot6 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:15 pm

BNAG - how did you prepare for childbirth?
Those classes are a joke. The first time my husband told me to breath I grabbed him by his throat and said YOU BREATH!!!! That was the first one. Want to hear what happened with 2 and 3?

slapshot6 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:17 pm

That would be good Ash, lol. I’d love to be at the game that is first called.

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Want to hear what happened with 2 and 3?

BNAG, I suggest you do NOT answer.

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

SS6 at far as preparing for the pain, my wife was wishing for the blessed event for a month leading up to it. I think that was BNAG’s point. You are prepared (well at least she thought she was) for the pain.

phil says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:21 pm

child birth hurts?????

GreenStar says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:24 pm

the problem with a penalty for being a tool is it is very subjective, judging who is a tool and who aint.

i think wearing your pants around your knees and hat on crooked makes you a tool but there are many kids who would disagree.

now with the rule change, could you be called for a penalty if you get caught facing the goalie in front of the net? i’ll admit, i don’t care for avery’s action but i think the rule addition sets a scary precident.

BDS says:

AustinTXwildfan says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

what the? I do have a DVR, but I am going to be getting home around 10:15pm at the earilest, and then I watch the game… that put me to bed around 12:30 or 1 at the earilest.. then I have to get up at 7am to make it to work by 8 for another 14 hour day. I mean, it seems doable, but I would be a zombie at work.

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

Filling the time until the puck drops.

I like our chances tonight, but like them better for tomorrow night. I am hoping Forsberg is so overworked his foot actually falls off. Of course no one will be around him and we will still take a tripping call for it, but still would be nice to see.

phil says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

GreenStar says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

childbirth = you know it’s coming
taking one in the sack = you never know it’s coming

big difference

you can choose to not have childbirth and avoid the pain, sack shot you cannot choose most times

Austin..man i wish there were something we could do to help.

phil says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

GreenStar says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:30 pm

suck it up ATX. it’s the playoffs. :-)

I’m up at 5:30 for work at 6:30. it sux but if radio and gut it out on one leg, i can work on 5 hours sleep

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:32 pm

Green*- I think you are placing too much emphasis on the leagues response to what was clearly a bone head move that stood out as out of the ordinary behavior in front of the net. The league was forced to do something so that the Devils did not do the same in return. So the enforcement falls on the officiating and the official on that call did skate up to him and said ’something’ even his own player did. But as SS6 pointed out, there is no “tool” penalty and the refs only recourse would have been if he physically touched him according to the the rules.

slapshot6 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:32 pm

Goalieguy says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:34 pm

Thank you, you’ve been a great audience.

slapshot6 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:35 pm

If there were no instigator rule I think Mr. Avery would have maybe rethunk(sp) his actions.

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

SS6- your right it is funny to see in hindsight. If it wasn’t so funny America’s Funniest Homevideos wouldn’t even have a show. If you will notice though the groin shots never win the big money!

slapshot6 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

AustinTXwildfan says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

It’s cool phil… maybe G* is right. The only problem is that The TV shares a wall with the bedroom. If my wife is trying to sleep while I am watching playoff hockey, that might not bode well for her. However, she might be a bigger hockey fan that I am… so there is a chance she would understand.

Ash says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:45 pm

Can you believe that the Pepsi Center is still not sold out yet? Even the scalpers are staying away!

Lemmiwinks_ahp says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:45 pm

Phil…I think Forsberg’s congenial foot problem causes him to fall down a lot, thereby appearing like he’s diving, but as all Colorado fans will attest, such a thing never happens.

GreenStar says:

April 14th, 2008 at 5:46 pm

5 Russoville dollars says Avs fans will blame it on the Wild’s 6 goalie system - Wild should have organized a road trip.

Ash says:

Oh wait, the Avs play a trap-and-the-box©. Clog up the neutral zone, and collapse around the crease. Yeah…that’s run-and-gun isn’t it?

They’re more like the Wild of 2003 than the Wild are.

AustinTXwildfan says:

Buck up little camper - the Sens are terrible!

Michael up North says:

April 14th, 2008 at 6:20 pm

Distractions, hookers, and Colin Campbell… I think it’s hilarious!

I saw Avery’s tactics, and I wasn’t really incensed. Hey, give the guy some credit for trying something new, even though it’s a bit on the edge. I’m not going to bite on the spin that’s being dished out on that - insinuating he was “faking a slash” to Marty’s head. Clearly he’s waving his stick in Brodeur’s line of sight hoping to distract his attention. In my book, kudos to him for trying something new.

Now the black book article.. Who gives a rats a$$? Are we to judge him because he like some high class pay-per-tail? Pffft. Like none of you have gone out and bought some girl dinner and drinks expecting some more. I’ve been married, does that count? Yeah, she got the house.

And on to Campbell. Just a moment, I need to sigh loudly first… Ok. A rule interpretation based on Avery’s antics? Ok, if the league warrants it, then fine - they can do that. Was it really needed? Probably not. Look, there’s a simple way to solve that if it were to happen to _your_ goaltender: Just flatten him from behind.

The league declines to police itself when it comes to avoiding injury situations, but it’ll police itself when faced with a lawsuit from a fan, or someone complains about something. Why not outlaw the Bouchardian since it’s new and a few goaltenders complained? Why not outlaw the dump-in, since fans think it’s boring? Why not outlaw the TV time out, since it takes the rhythm out of the game?

Find something else, CC, I’m sure you can do it.

Kevin in PA says:

April 14th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Just flatten him from behind.

Agreed, and I was screaming at the Devils’ D for not doing so (and I think Colin White was on the ice; shocked he didn’t do something, even if it was just pushing at Avery.)

And the Sens may be terrible, but they’re getting Alfredsson back tonight, we’re without Roberts, and we haven’t gotten the majority of the calls all series. Being on Ottawa ice concerns me.

Puck1 says:

April 14th, 2008 at 6:49 pm

To anyone who doesn’t care about what Avery does, I ask you this:
Do you want your kids to grow up watching Avery? Do you want your kids to be just like Avery?
At the end of the day, is hockey better with Avery? Is that what you want to see in future hockey games? 2 or 3 guys standing in front of the goalie, waving sticks and gloves in front of his face?
Who wants to pay $75 for a ticket to those games?

I would really like someone to go interview Avery’s parents. I bet his father is a real piece of work.
