Game 6: Schultz Returns
Posted on April 19th, 2008 – 8:32 PMBy Michael Russo
No gametime decision.
First time this series Jacques only dressed 20 in warmups, meaning Sean Hill is definitely scratched for Nick Schultz.
Erik Reitz is in, as is Matt Foy. Benoit Pouliot and Chris Simon are scratched.
Here’s an interesting stat: The two times in history the Avalanche has lost Game 6 at home after being up 3-2, it lost Game 7 on the road (1999 and 2002).
Boston and Washington won, meaning the Wild could become the third team to stave off elimination today if it wins.

this will definitely be a “Weather the storm early” game for the Wild. Hopefully Nick’s up to the challenge. Great reporting, Russo, and thanks!
Bs SCORE!! Phil the thrill?!
NINY: especially in Boulder when there’s a Spring Football Game. I think my favorite thing to see in the spring is skirts where the pockets in the skirt are longer than the skirt itself….as I type… Kessel…money again!
yep, Lemmi, I fully support making sure those garments still fit after the winter!
TIED AGAIN…what a game!
Wow and back to the Habs…pretty good game to watch
Go Habs Go!!!
Oh man if you’d seen the Family Guy a few weeks ago. James Woods steals Peter’s identity and is talking to Meg, “Say hello to something I like to call Mr. Pukey!” Soooo wrong…
sweet yahweh…Bs again…what a freakin’ period!
Insanity on Patriots Day in Boston!
Good call by whoever it was that said Foy would play.
Bruin’s score again
Lemmi, do like a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket… B’s again. Hammerlik is a cool hockey name.
Band: it is, but he got worked twice on that last goal.
Too bad Manny is not playing in this game - I do hope things work out for him.
insane finish…whoulda thunk 7 games in this series?!
Poor Habs.
ok…tiem to refocus…back in 5
I love reading people’s predictions on these first round series. TSN, SI, you name it. They’re all wrong. Complete crap-shoot. Experts were saying Wings in 5, Habs in 5, Devils in 7, Caps in 5, Fowl in 4. Silly, silly “experts”. I wouldn’t put my name anywhere near predictions unless we’re talking about predicting whether a certain “gerbil” will be getting drunk tonight
Darby’s hair almost looks normal tonight.
do like a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket
No idea, but it sounds promising. lol.
Darby’s hair almost looks normal tonight.
omg, you are SO rite! Haircut?
Bandgeek: Your co-worker from Montreal is probably not happy right now. In fact, she’s fit to be tied! (Ha, ha.)
Schultz on the ice even in warm-ups is good to see.
Off to the game! (On my couch, that is…) ![]()
Could Keith Jones’ eyes be closer together? He looks like a muppet.
He looks like a muppet.
lmao!!
I think so bfw. He looks groomed.
It’s unanimous: Darb’s looks like Beeker!!!
if Jones was blue and had wings he’d be Sam the Eagle.
“I tink I’m gonna barf!”
Hattie for Boogie tonight. Maybe a GHHT.
Hattie for Boogie tonight. Maybe a GHHT.,/i>
Check this out:
Mr. Hockey only had ONE GHHT….ever.
Weird.
I wish I could watch the Vs feed, D&D make me sad.
Band: not as bad as listening to the opposition’s feed. ![]()
Well, the Bruins won. So now the Wild have to do their part to keep my Wild/Bruins series dreams alive.
Hey all,
Let’s all raise ‘em up:
Here’s to the Wild, hopin’ for a great game 6. GO WILD!!
salud!
Lookin for good things from Foyzy
Wow Foy’s got a decent playoff beard, and it’s red. Didn’t realize Foy was a red head.
I like Gabby w/fridge and franchise.
I didn’t see teh call?
wow..Devo must have some sweet vision if he kept his eyes on that puck that long.
OHHHHHHHHH goaltender interference!!!!!
love it!
Let’s start a riot….!
Look at all this perimeter passing!
awful…someone’s gotta move in the slot!
Shoot the freakin puck!!!!!!
Mother Smurfer!!
fucking terrible.
1st goal again!
Well, there y a go
Again… Mother Smurfer!!!
gotta have that save….I don’t know…
Ouch..
How’d that taste?
Billy Squire???? That’s embarrasing…
Well guess I’m not missing anything.
FORE!!!
that’s bush of that donkey to take that run at Schultz so late after he passed the puck.
hmmm. I think i’m safe now.
Rolston better not be on this team next year
Not as embarrassing as zero shots on goal on a PP plus giving up a shorthand goal.
Do they not know how to start a blog at the Denver Post?
“Stroke me, stroke me.”
ahahahahahaahah
C’mon Backstrom- That should have been stopped. Guite is no All-Star. Bad gift.
Do they not know how to start a blog at the Denver Post?
Give ‘em a break. Tough to get internet access at all those mobile homes….
Bitter…party of one
I don’t think the refs will ever allow Boogy to draw a penalty.
c’mon Martina Skoula atleast hit Smyth with your purse in front of the net instead of letting him stand on Backstrom…
Rolston - still very weak on the puck.
the cbc guys were talking about how the Wild weren’t getting any sustained pressure in the Avs zone…then they do, but get ZERO shots.
Nice penalty…still wanna cry some more about how bad the refs have been?
nick…..Your thugs, take your pick, are looking to throw the game for you by putting us on the power play all night…They must have $ on the Avs. Watch…they will be in the box for another 110 minutes by the end of the night. Go Avs
Beantown Chris…the blog was invented in Denver
“Uh, duh duh duh, da doy dya, duh duh duh, doy doy , da duy duhy , duh!!!”
Go AvHoles…doy!
Another pretty average 1st session. HUGE to kill that penalty at the end of the period. It was an absolute must. Wild have weathered the storm. Now it is time to counter-attack…C’mon fellas
At least I can say Gaborik is stepping it up
Does anyone know what Voros has done in this series to continue to play everynight. He seems to take penalties……anything else?
All we’re taking our outside shots, tell me one thing we’ve done in this game or series for that matter to make Theodore uncomfortable in the net like bruno Smyth and Jones are doing to Backs?? Stupid coaching.
Look at Schultz..he need a saline drip for some fluids….
SoCal Voros is atleast playing like he’s in an elimination game and not with his tail between his legs, afraid to do anything.
Who you gonna play instead of him? I like Puliot but you don’t play a kid with 5 games experiance in an elimination game. Then again Rolston has lots of experiance.
Be nice if Don Russo logged on and gave his thoughts/analysis during the intermission….
Do we really have to watch Kimberly Johnsson for two more years at 4 million per…. That’s Painful.
Max Mike Greenlay will do that isn’t that good enough.
Build from within…you too must have your grain belt in your hand and your homer hanky being used as a coaster. Must have been a tough day at work at Fleet farm stocking Nascar ball caps and fish’n lures.
Socal: If Parrish wasn’t out, you might have a point.
At least Rolston’s contract ends after this year.
I am surprised to see all these posters from colorado. Usually by this time on a Saturday night, they’re watching rodeo or extreme snowboarding.
ha BOL Mike. This Faceoff segment is sooooo lame. Really I hope FSN reevaluates the intermissions in the offeseason.
I’d like Gorg, but he is a Tommie. So that automatically makes him scum.
Do we really have to watch Kimberly Johnsson for two more years at 4 million per…. That’s Painful.
No doubt. I’d love to be a #4 defenseman makin’ #2 money!!
I think we’re dressed right tonight if Jacques would just let it roll.. I mean let Boogaard, Voros, Fedoryk, Foy, Veillux and Burns get after it start laying some wood. and bumping Theodore so Foote and Selei will take penalties.
I can only dream of having a Grain Belt right now. Or a Fat Tire. Harpoon IPA is getting the job done…
Just got back and caught up after a very long day at work.
WRT, Austin, and whoever else was at that Wild/Pens game a couple years ago: I believe I got roaring drunk during the second and third periods (that’s what I did during those dark years when we averaged about 40 points a season) and so the ride home (my friend drove) was fun, with my friend freaking out in the snow and me chillin’ in the backseat in a happy place.
Not a great first period. They need to put one in early here in the second. dick. I am in no mood for antics. Good thing I am not in a good position to post much. Keep the faith people. Go Wild!
Only two more periods and you’ll be out of your misery. Start booking those tee times!
I think I’d take the kid Pouliot, as the other kid defenseman is doing just fine. Moves much better than Hill. We just need to stay out of the box. And a drive to the middle between the circles wouldn’t hurt either.
Time for a PHYSICAL second period. These guys have success when they start pounding the opposition.
Stoned on the Breakaway….Looks like you have traveled the world. The Dells, North Shore…Como Zoo and Mall of America do not count…Widen your horizons are at least expand what between your two ears..loser
SOB: Where were you 15 mins ago?
Bulldog: Get out there on the ice and let ‘em know you’re there. Get that fuckin’ stick in their side. Let ‘em know you’re there! Get that lumber in his teeth. Let ‘em know you’re there!
Wild go on the PP in the first 5 minutes, it turns into a 5-3 and they convert both with Gaborik getting the first.
Boy this is crazy how does Floppa find time to post on the blog during the busy intermission activities???
trolls, trolls, deutsch sprechen. Sie mussen gehn!
Build from within…you too must have your grain belt in your hand and your homer hanky being used as a coaster. Must have been a tough day at work at Fleet farm stocking Nascar ball caps and fish’n lures.
Frickn’ hilarious! Good one! Labatt’s, actually.
KiPA: Yeah, it wasn’t fun for the Pens fans that year. And damn, those Igloo corridors are microscopically small!
Wild better step it up big time in the second, or…
I heard Greenlay is being replaced by Bombadier next season on the tube,, Thank God.
Best is Peter said no to the Wild…talk about egg on your face…The old man makes the Wild take notice as he crosses the blue line with the puck…can’t say that of Skoula
Beantown.. Good call..Love the Slapshot reference
WRT: it was fun drinking during the blowouts (so 41 times) since I made other people drive. The corridors aren’t the only things that are small in the Igloo.
And yeah, Wild need to start showing a little urgency (though I saw just the last 4 minutes of the first).
JT owes us a few second period goals. I think three will do just fine!
They need to put one in early here in the second. dick
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh,…………………
Hey, Nobody is tougher in front of the net than martina Skoula…I’ll have none of that.
VOROS!!!!!
MoVO!
voros!!!
There’s a quick one. Voros doing something beneficial for once, eh?
Voros is playing because
Troll killer.
Walk softly and carry a big Purse # 41 & # 5
I take back everything I said. GO WILD!
Look Edina scored
Woo voros!!!
Mmmm, would you likke that w/mustard???
Oh yeah, eat it!!
YES!!!! VOROS!!!! And he didn’t kill anybody on the celi.
Hey O…Who was it that called out VOROS at the intermission?
Alright now keep the pressure on them…
Sh!t, I coulda scored that. Lame Av;s
Franchise.
Voros is Playoff Hockey go 34..baby
Love the execuses the Wild announcer make for your players…Oh Gabric lost his edge..no he lost the puck of of his stick by being pick pocketed by an Avs player…homers
Sorry about the “dick” thing… Hard to edit on a blackberry. Go Wild!
There’s that Voros celebration! I haven’t seen that in a while!
Ja vohl!! Voros ist gut! Gabby ist gut! Mein bein ist gebroken. …. wait, what, ok now I’m just falling into stuff straight from a text book, let me try again….. Bier ist toll! Ein bier bitte!!
Boogy Voros and Shep, ya baby!
Why does Koivu have a black eye?
Ja vohl!! Voros ist gut! Gabby ist gut! Mein bein ist gebroken. …. wait, what, ok now I’m just falling into stuff straight from a text book, let me try again….. Bier ist toll! Ein bier bitte!!
Love ya, Band!
mein bier is lehr. Ich mechte noch eins. Mein deutsch ist nit gut. Die Avs sind zu kein sheitz.
Ja, bfw ich bin toll. Ich bin schon. Mein hund hat drei ekke. Schultzie hast grosse (brass ones?).
Well, there’s your homer call.
Avs are starting to push us around. Need to answer back with some pushing of our own…
Ja, bfw ich bin toll. Ich bin schon. Mein hund hat drei ekke. Schultzie hast grosse (brass ones?).
LMAO. No entiendes nada, pero tu tienes cajones grandes!!
lol. bandgeek. ich liebe das. Ich LEIBE PMB. Er ist heisz.
Wild sind toll. ….
Can I stop now? I’m running out of words I remember.
Hey, if anyone around here is gonna bitch about the Wild homer retard announcers, it’s US! Get your own crappy TV announcers!
ya we can stop now. I’m running out too.
Demo just saved a goal getting that penalty.
Ich liebe Boogie!! Ich liebe Mikko!! Ich liebe Kool-aid mit rum!!
Ein bier bitte!
Gabby has his confidence back with the assist…he is trying real hard…but that only goes so far..score!
The one word I know in French fits right now….. MERDE!
dammit!
soft
Stay square to the puck, and that floater doesn’t go in. dammit.
I guess Colorado still plays that child molester’s song for goals. Let’s hope we don’t hear it again.
I’m so sick of 4.5 minutes…
Let’s get the goddamn lead, eh?
WTF! That was another bad goal by Backstrom. He went down way to early. He is not sharp. Brutal.
That was pretty!
I guess Colorado still plays that child molester’s song for goals. Let’s hope we don’t hear it again.
Goddamn hiLARious. Quote of the year!
Ich Hass AVS!
Nice pom-poms, Col.
Du. Du hast mich. Du hast mich. Du hast mich gefragt, du hasy mich gefragt, du hast mich grfragt und ich hab dies gesagt!!!
Name that tune!!
…um, hey NiNY. Can I get that beer now?? Thx.
eere you go, bfw…one all you need?
Du. Du hast mich. Du hast mich. Du hast mich gefragt, du hasy mich gefragt, du hast mich grfragt und ich hab dies gesagt!!!
Ramstein!!
Nice uniforms…must have has a run on christmas fabric and JoAnn’s fabric. Or maybe it was a bunch of Wild marketing noobs with their fill of Juicy Lucy’s and Hamms at the greatest show on earth - the MN state fair.
eere you go, bfw…one all you need?
LMMFAO. I’ll take a KEG if ya got one!!
Foot has had more shots on goal than Gabric…
Hamms at the greatest show on earth /i>
“From the land of Sky Blue Wa-a-ters!!”
The Mild might want to consider getting a captain that can at least score a playoff point.
[…] Chiropractic Blogs wrote an interesting post today on Game 6: Schultz ReturnsHere’s a quick excerptFirst time this series Jacques only dressed 20 in warmups, meaning Sean Hill is definitely scratched for Nick Schultz. […]
STK: For a faggot, you sure know a lot about Minnesota.
RAMSTEIN
Someonethatknows (jackshit)= The kinda of loser who had to ask his sister out to the prom, and then even she turned him down. Jackass!
Foppa, he has a point.
You are correct bfw. Sorry no prize other than knowing your smart.
Enjoy the last period of your season Wild fans. Guess we’ll see ya in the fall.
Keep Gabric…novelty for the team…1st pick last one to shut off the lights… Good night Wild….see ya at the draft we are moving on to Calgary…..
This game is very winnable, but its gonna take much more.
Open Letter to Marion Gaborik:
Dear Marion,
Please, for the love of all that is holy, take some time this summer to work on your LATERAL MOBILITY. You have become SO predictable, it’s not even funny. Try moving shooting the puck while your moving your feet. Or maybe crossover and accelerate towards the goal. Just a thought….
Thanks.
WildLover you also get the knowledge that you know things!!! Cool!!
Sorry, to much sugar and German.
I haven’t watched one second of this game but I checked the score on-line and it’s no surprise to me that the Mild losers are behind again on the scoreboard. So much for gut-check time.
A gutless organization from top to bottom.
20 minutes to show they have enough heart to keep this season alive.
20 minutes to show they’re not just satisfied with one (largely meaningless) banner.
20 minutes to shake some monkeys off their back.
20 minutes to silence the mindless critics - and their own demons.
20 minutes.
“I want you to be hockey players!”
If I was coach, I think I’d have my boys come out with a COMPLETELY different system and surprise the shit out of COL.
SRV rockin a nice beard.
Hey Foppa, let’s be fair. He’s got 1. Just needs a few more to catch up to Fridge.
Backstrom is the reason we are down in this game-plain and simple. Both those goals he let in were garden variety shots and he was out of position and both should have been stopped.
Demitra is the problem Gaborik is where he needs to be most of the time. And of course if Rolstonpuck could controll the he might actually have a meaningful shot on goal.
…….fire Riesbrough now……….pass it on……….
Beantown…what you are going to have them put on Northstar jerseys..
Russo should be proud that his blog has attracted people who aren’t his target audience.
Backstrom is not ready for prime time but you have to put up more then 2 goals in a 60 minute game at least twice to win a playoff series.
You are correct bfw. Sorry no prize other than knowing your smart
C’mon, Band. Can’t you show a fellow bandmate some love? How ’bout a (virtual)beer?
I think you’re on to something Beantown. Backs isn’t his normal self, so how about putting him if front of Theodore as a screen. Boogie in goal.
I wish I knew who was serious and who was just a troll douche.
I am his audience.never buy the red star…read it online…lived in CO during the Avs haydays, now live in the burbs on Minneapolis…can’t stand mediocre teams especially owners that cannot spend the $
STK: Carmelo called. He wants to know why you ripped off his hairdo and headband.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA Joey
Backstrom is the reason we are down in this game-plain and simple. Both those goals he let in were garden variety shots and he was out of position and both should have been stopped.</i
Hard to argue with that.
Is it time again for “Top Ten Reasons Beer is Better than Hockey?”
Ok they showed that stat on Crapertude about being tied for everyone FYI.
49% of the time the wild hasn’t led….they’ve been tied….F U Avs fans. No matter how long I live in this wonderful state your hockey team will still sodomize donkeys
STK - what you are hell about talking?
In keeping with the German theme, bfw, you get virtual brats and beer. Heck!! Virtual brats and beer for WildLover also.
can’t stand mediocre teams
Translation: Fair weather fan.
Ich bin ein berliner!!!
n keeping with the German theme, bfw, you get virtual brats and beer. Heck!! Virtual brats and beer for WildLover also.
Band, you are my MVP, player of the year, #1 Draft pick, all in one!! Gawd, I hope you simmered them in onions and beer, then grilled….mmmmmmmm. Delicious!!
wildlover, ya gotta love it!!
Sure thing bfw, but I hope you don’t mind if I don’t have sauerkraut on mine. It makes me gassy.
your hockey team will still sodomize donkeys
Quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever heard!!
FSN your commercials suck.
Anyway will the Wild make any worthwhile trades this offseason so that next year we might at least have a chance to win in the playoffs?
I’m a goalie, so I know you never blame him. Backstrom has not let any in you can blame him for.
That being said, Backstrom has consistently been outplayed by the opposing goalie this season.
Russo opined earlier this season that rather than us coming up on hot goalies every game, it’s more likely that our guys for some reason just don’t have the ability to finish it. This idea struck a chord with me.
After pondering this theory for the last few months, I have come to the conclusion that it is far more likely still that we have come accustomed to a goalie that is not to blame for goals, when the standard in the league is goalies who make outstanding saves.
Again, I want to stress that I’m not blaming Backs. I’m just saying that to go into the playoffs, a goalie that can stand on his head is needed.
If it were possible, is there anyone here who wouldn’t trade every player on the Mild’s roster for every player on Calgary’s roster straight up, in a heartbeat? Or for any other team that made the playoffs this year for that matter?
Man, I just have a bad feeling about this even with getting a 2nd period goal..Backs looks soft, again. I know we typically score in the 3rd, we better hope early and often or we are toast.
It makes me gassy.
Well, can’t have that! Gotta have tons of onion and mustard, tho.
build from within…you got it…how many of you have taken work off - I am sick - and gone to a 2 o’clock afternoon game during the week for the Twins????? In Denver…if you have not experienced this at least once a season, you are ridiculed and sent to Wisconsin. Fans in Denver get it…they do not except owners that talk out of the side of their mouthes and not with their pockets…
Mike i agree, least Calgary has heart.
Will Gaborik have a hard time shaking hands at the end of the game with both hands on his throat?
Can hear it in the burbs….penalty…in the crease…ah man…refs are living in CO
Who leaves Minnesota first, Lemaire or Gaborik.
I wouldn’t mind either way
The vs. announcers just said there should be a penalty on Burns for knocking the net off as he slid into it. They are idiots.
SDK: I do not accept people who don’t know the difference between except and accept.
Can hear it in the burbs….penalty…holding…. ah man…refs are living in CO
Bandgeek. You are a donut? That is weird. Eddie Izzard is awesome.
beantown…got it…must have a grat job here in MN..department of education…golden ticket…never will be fired for being an a hole
beantown…got it…must have a great job here in MN..department of education…golden ticket…never will be fired for being an a hole
Nice Kimberly… Can’t just knock a guy down…In the words of Vince Lombardi “all they do is grab, grab, grab”
WANTED : Physical Defensive Defenseman to replace the ninth highest paid defenseman in hockey.
see i corrected myself
Jawany: You think Lemaire should leave? I don’t think anybody who knows hockey wouldn’t objectively rank Lemaire as one of the best coaches in the league.
Austin: Jelly donut to be exact. I said I’d had to much sugar today, and as you can see it’s “warped my fragile little mind.”
David Jones (rookie) has one point. Same as Gaborik…tell me something isn’t wrong with that.
Mike, I’d keep Koivu, Burns, and Schultz and trade the rest for Iginla. Hate to say it, but I’d take Phaneuf as well.
Detroit, probably.
San Jose, sure.
Anaheim, I hate them too much. nope.
Dallas, maybe.
Nashville, no way.
go Gabby…
Bean I guess we agree to disagree. Both (so far) Backstrom let in were ordinary stops, or should have been. 1st one he didn’t come out to take away space and just reacted poorly. Second one was just flat out awful.
STK: Grammar isn’t the only thing you don’t know. Apparently geography isn’t a strong subject, either.
see i corrected myself
Huh? We’re you unborn?
I see your argument, Knight. I’m agreeing with you more than I care to admit. ![]()
Down one goal, down four goals, it just doesn’t matter. There’s no way the Mild can win. You Mild lemmings have got to realize that, right? It just won’t happen.
Betchya I know more about Tudor England than all of you. I could take you in Minnesota History as well. Oh wait, neither are grammar or geography. Never mind.
Some good news - the Houston Aeros win 1-0 in double OT to split the first two games in Rockford. Ryan Jones, #10, got the game winner. At least one number ten is getting it done.
The teams now head to Houston for three games.
Nice fan Gabs…don’t think Stevie Y would have missed that,
BostonChris….you must be in the education system as I do not hear you disputing my assumptions. I know a win as I see it Avs 4, Wild 2.
10-4 Bean. It’s all good either way..
AiH,
Where ya been buddy? Raise your glass, here’s to the Wild!
STK: I heard you the first time.
Band: Same team!
If the Avs do not stop playing ticky tack hockey…this will go into OT
Like I said earlier Chris…. to much sugar. Bad day for my doctor prescribed diet. I’m just feelin snarky.
BeanswampKris…I only call it like I read it or see it…you are obviously one that takes his\her\trans grammar and geography seriously
I’m just feelin snarky
I haven’t the SLIGHTEST clue what that means, but sounds AWESOME!!
Go Band!!
Sure arent showing much sense of urgency with 10 minutes from golfing season looking at the boys..
I’m just having a really hard time seeing Gaborik shaking hands when he’s got both hands wrapped around his throat.
I can tell just looking at the the box score the Mild aren’t playing tough (again), since they’ve only managed to draw one penalty more than halfway through the 3rd. Sad.
Hmmm.. snarky, to be snarky, to be slightly argumentative, to be sarcastic, to have attitude, British slang.
A massive overhaul is needed for the Mild in the offseason. GM is the place to start.
You can be the best coach ever in the NHL but if you cant win in the playoffs….i’m sorry time for something new
Start the bus
two minutes left, lets bag this goal already
Do you believe in miracles…not tonight!
TJ show that puck to Gabby cause he will not see that till next year.
Do you believe in miracles…not tonight!
You’re mom did. lol!
BFW…going to the mom card is classic for a 6th grader
It’s been nice. Bummer.
Tough guys. Sorry. ![]()
Russo was right! Avs in six!
Good night now!!!
Wild will never win a playoff series with Gaborik, we need a player, not someone who sits on the blue line waiting for a pass
Well, Avs are going deep if JT keeps playing like that. Plain got beat this series.
Let the troll gloating begin.
Pathetic. No offense, as usual. Thankfully Versus did me a favor by blacking this game out.
So does this mean Russo has to get all of us a drink at Starbucks?
Any chance a Denver writer does a piece on the boring style of hockey the Avalanche play?
going to the mom card is classic for a 6th grader
you’re dad thought so too, in 6th grade. Shoulda pulled out….
LMFAO!
See you later Brian Rolston
Great Series Wild. Couldn’t ask for a better Series. Great Hockey. Better luck next year.
So where are all of the Kool-aid gulping, Mild lovin’ lemmings? Where’d they go?
Wooo hooo!!!!!
Nice try Mild, maybe next year.
Props to the Avs…they’ll face tougher in the next series, they better hope JT stays hot lest they suffer our fate
Damn it
Wild homers and media can say all you want about Theodore standing on his head during the serious. I comes down to putting the puck in the net with three solid lines and not two. Wild need to find leadership from the top down… that goes for every MN pro team.
Read my article tomorrow!
Gaborik was the Wild MVP tonight and it wsn’t even close.
I don’t believe the Avs will go too far in the remainder of the playoffs, but they are going to be a very tough out.
A lot of experience on that team.
A European Captain has never won the Stanley Cup.
Guess it’s time to go fix those 10,000 dead car batteries now. Have fun!
Classic Minnesota sports….woooo we made it to the playoffs now what the f**k do we do…..what keep playing??
Well, pisser…. Next year boys. Goalie won this series for the Avs. And just because I’m feelin’ snarky (feel free to use that word bfw) get bent you troll hosers!!! Besides the Mr just reminded me it could be worse, we could be Leafs fans (or even worse, Cubs fans). Night all.
PS. I am Canadian….and have only started writing in English the last three months.
Gonna be a long offseason. Hope we make a few necessary changes and craft a team designed for the PLAYOFFS…
Some changes are in order for next season..Russo was right about the series… and for this game I predicted 3-1 Avs but close enough
Damn it
futz. its going to be troll city in here for a while so I am taking a vacation.
colorado sure does play some excellent lock down, defensive hockey when they get a lead.
congrats to the aves and their fans. good luck in the next round.
Keep in mind Gaborik had a point a game in 0-3 your a fool if you think he was the problem. Brian Rolston had some points but he flat sucked for the second year as a Wild.
Just think. Next year the Mild will play another 82 just to miss the playoffs entirely or get easily bounced in the first round again!! Wow!! What an team!! What an organization!! What a bunch of LOSERS!!
Well, Avs Fan shows class. That’s one Colorado supporter who has any.
Brian R will be an Avalanche next year
Gorg says that the Wild will “try” to re-sign Rolston. Kidding me, he is a good player, any good MN team would let them go
I hope the Wild does not sign any of its UFAs next season except for Rolston.
To the trolls, not the guys like Avs fan…payback/karma’s a b1tch..let’s see who’s crying next
I agree that some major overhauling needs to take place for us to go anywhere in the future postseasons ahead. I have said this before-it needs to start with JL moving on. Can’t go far in his system and mold players into something they are not. See Gabby/Demitra/Belanger, etc. It aint 1995 anymore and 1995 aint comin back.
What’d I miss?
Great Series Wild. Couldn’t ask for a better Series. Great Hockey. Better luck next year.
Agreed. Nothin’ like the Stanley Cup playoffs, the best time of the year. Enjoy the ride!
Next year Wild won’t make .500
We WILD fans are glad this is over. NOW ALL YOU FREAKIN’ AVS ARE GONNA STAY OUT OF HERE! Go watch your team lose in the next round!
GO SHARKS!!!!!
If the option is pay Rolston 6+ million or someone else 6+ million the choice is easy. Of course we are really bad at free agency overpaying Parrish Johnsonn and basically Demitra (that looks like a pathetic trade right about now).
knight63, i agree we need an actual coach, not a former player/coach. Back in the sixties sh*t aint working
The question is: Is the new Mild owner a Kool-aid gulper himself, or will he get to work on building a competitive team? Hint: Dump the Risedump!!
I don’t give a s@#$ how many goals you score in the reg season.
Nobody cares!!
Brian Burke was right!!
Bring on the Canadians!
Ha smuggla, you’re funny.
Anyone else hoping that Skoula will announce he is leaving the Wild?
Also, the Simon trade is looking better everyday………..oops
Kevin,
I know how you feel. I would love to spend the $ supporting the MN pro teams, but one must look at the ownership, media and fans in turning the mediocrity around. If you are not promoting 365 days a year the “team”, then don’t expect to show up at the playoff time and be productive. Look at the Wolves…
Now that th e offseason has started the wild can start to look to the future.
#1 on the list, get a goaltender that has the ability to stop the ones he is suppose to and throw a couple big ones in also.
#2 Get rid of that overrated coach that does nothing but hold his players back and has no idea what creativity means.
#3GET RID OF THAT KNUCKLEHEAD THE BOOGIEMAN.
Rolston won’t get 6 mil from anyone.
Mike, tell us how you really feel about DR.
Not sure why that was addressed to me, “STK.” I’m not a Minnesota supporter.
It’s been fun Mild fans! Guess it’s time to go harass our second round opponent.
We do have to give props to Forsberg and Smyth for the Av’s they show that evolution is more than a theory.
Let’s be honest: Foster and Shultz don’t go out, this series is COMPLETELY different.
I said this series that Gabby was a paper tiger, and it’s true, trade him and demitra for a Malkin annd draft pick..Backs, I don’t know, maybe they should try accelerating the development of Harding
phil: 100% agree re-tool
Risedump is the reason the Mild are mild. The team sucks because he sucks at his job. Seriously, is there any doubt?
Hey, let’s look at the bright side. No more FACEOFF segments!
I’ll come back in the morning when the trolls are gone.
No offense intended, phil, but no thanks on that deal.
bunch of egg heads on FSN.. they know that they do not have jobs next year
What a frustrating game to watch. More so than the last one. Total lack of effort aside from 10 mintues in the 2nd. That of course has nothing to do with JL or DR. So disappointing to see that with our season on the line. The biggest question I have about the last two games is why did we stop hitting? Our success has come from taking the body.
The team that wanted it more won this series, and that’s sad.
Greenstar,Slapshot 6, Bandgeek now that the season has ended you guys don’t have to worry anymore. You will be able to attend all the Mpls gay mens choir concerts!!!!!
Beantown…excuses are like a-holes
Everyone’s got one and they all stink!
Great series wild fans. better luck next year eh? thanks for giving (and taking) the trash talk. cheers.
Mike what the flip is Risedump
I believe Harding is better than Backstrom. Having said that neither one is a quality #1 goalie in this league.
Be sure to turn on the nitelight on the way to Mom’s basement tonight.
And keep it down! Mom’s shift cleaning toilets starts aweful early.
Since your sis turned a few extra tricks tonight, maybe you can borrow some money from her so you can stop by Walgreens and load up on Robitussen for the next round.
Good luck!
beans…they were out…depth is huge…like I said 3 lines score goals not 1.5. Look at Wes as the domino that started the reaction.
beans…stop hanging onto what has happened..fix what will be.
IF my mom had balls; she’d be my dad
STK: I’m wearing a #37 sweater right now. There’s one comment I’ll agree with you for the night. I just wish you would find a little faith and get behind the home team. Bring it in for the win.
Doug Risebrough (Mild GM) = Risedump.
At the trade deadline he goes dumpster diving for other teams garbage. Last two trade dead-lines he went dumpster diving and came back with a smelly Dominic Moore and a stinky Chris Simon. Moore was so obscure and unwanted that even Lemaire had never heard of him. Ergo, Risedump…or the Dumpper!
… and they shook hands! GO Avs!
young guys coming back that had strong seasons:
Mikko
Burnsie
??
Foppa, I just wanted to congratulate you and the Broncos for not getting anyone killed during the offseason a la Darrent Williams.
Clever Rinkrat. How many hours did it take you think that one up?
IF my mom had balls; she’d be my dad
Uhhhhh, have you talked to your dad lately???
Build…you funny sometimes…are’s you work’n on the truck tomorrow? Should take the the gun rack out of the window and clean up the the dog run next to the double wide. catch ya at the bowl’n alley next thursday for keoroke night.
Foppa=Queer says is an idiot
Stay classy Minnesota
Minnesota nice…Champions just twice…
IF my mom had balls; she’d be my dad.
Like Mrs. Cartman?
next to the double wide
Hilarious. Sorry, no double-wide here. I’m goin’ home to my two-story Tudor (know what that is???).
Which, by the way has appreciated in value. How’s that Denver real estate market lately??????
Hahahahahahahahahahaha, LMMFAO. Then again, what the f@#$ do you care, it’s MOM’S house anyway??
Go make yourself a grilled (government)cheese sandwich, and enjoy the victory, Corky.
Pronger,Bertuzzi,Niedermeyer,Real men that don’t need thier mothers to tuck them in tonight
My bad Mike, i always refered to Doug as that bastard you lies with Norm Green at night.
Oh Risebrough I hope you fall a break a hip and receive a canker sore
Its nice to see Lemaire very optimistic at the press conference, idiot.
He’s canadien and he still can’t talk.
Sounds like he is about to have a stroke.
Can MN get a winning team.
I love it build from within. Any chance that Corky is married to his sister too?
know where Interlachen is…Let me invite you out to the club…cut off jeans not allowed and leave the wife beater shirt at the “tudor” as well.
I love it build from within. Any chance that Corky is married to his sister too?
Count on it!!
G’nite!!
There is more material in this blog that Russo deserves. Hope he makes his deadline.
CYA
Go Twins
Is FabulousFoppa still in the house?
Russo’s headline tomorrow:
MN a great hockey state, why do they have such a crappy pro Team and how to get rid of Doug.
Of course…to the victors, go the spoils
we’re not tough enough and needed more scoring. We have too many schrimpy guys who can skate but not score. PMB, Belanger, and Gabby, they all must go in favor of some bigger guys who can hit and score. This series was very, very hard to watch. We’re a better team and we got beat in every way, loose pucks, in the corners - behind the net…ah darn it all.
Are all Coloradans rapists like Colt Brennan?
Haha..I love the comment Mark and yes we are. Isn’t the right Foppa?
Nah, only the ones that support the Mild.
Do we realize that Lemaire forced Walz to retire for the dumbass Sheppard. Great move Lemaire, so in the nursing home!
They should have fired JL then, but Doug has his head so far up his own a** not sure if day or night…. Go Canadiens!
geez, getting chippy in here. Can everyone please stop trying to impress with their house/country club? I don’t care who you cheer for, it’s lame. No need to go off the deep end.
“bleed on em let em know your there”
I’m pretty sure it’s only Coloradans. Chris Simon is less aggressive then you. Why else would Colorado State’s back up punter shoot the starting punter? LOL
I do have to say that it is great to see some thought process on the blog tonight. DR,JL have to go to en=ven be consider a contender. I can’t wait to see what the flower boys have post in Russoville in a day or two.
What’s your point Mark? If I’m not mistaken, the Av’s aggressiveness just ended your season.
Russo, not sure if you get a different flight then the team (if i can be so bold) but can you pass a word along for me to the coaching staff…….retire.
It’s just funny that this whole series Avs fans have been making fun of the Wild for being goons when you’re whole state is full of them.
Bye bye Drunkgard, remember, Goonies never say die.
It was Northern Colorado, and the backup punter stabbed him, not shot him. And the stabber was from Wyoming, so not a coloradan. So there.
The Latvian womens hockey team has more balls than Avs. What a bunch of ladies crying over a broken fingernail. Can’t take a check Statsny?
Thanks Jaswany
Finally someone with a brain.
Mark is angry and lashing out, it’s ok. His team just collapsed like a….oh I dunno……some sort of structure meant for support. Le it out….It feels better….
Mark Parrish couldn’t take a hit either. What a wuss. Shake it off loser. Wild can have all the avs retreads like Parrish, Skoula and Rolston.
Mark…cry all you want.
Bottom line, we won and you lost. Make all the excuses you want but it can’t change the fact that your team folded.
One word for you…SCOREBOARD!!!
Enjoy the golf season.
So easy, cannot believe that people in MN actually thought the Wild would make a deep play off run. No character, no talent.
Not to feed, but don’t you boys have an avs blog to troll on?
if not, then feel free to ours. it’s not your fault that you have no other place to vent your general frustrations.
have a good time with it.
I’m not frustrated, I’m actually really happy.
Where did ya go Mark? Had enough? Finally realized that you lost?
Faboulous,
Seems like you and I are the only ones left. Cannot wait until the next round, should have a decent chance against either one of the Flames or the Sharks assuming the Wings win.
FSN North is showing a Wild highlight video for 07-08 right now, seems fitting…
Did anybody notice that the Wild sent 7 players on the ice for the final face off, solid try.
I think Mark went to check out the balls on the Latvian chicks
Yeah, sure got quiet in here
They couldn’t score on us with five, might as well try six..errrr…seven.
Maybe next year they’ll try eight.
Kevin in Pa, I think that’d be a good trade for you.I really believe gabby would shine in the eastern conference, just probably never win the SC…sleep on it ![]()
The way some of the lightweight Wild players played, the should be allowed to put 8-9 players on the ice.
Good night.
It might go seven games with eight players on the ice but I’d still give the edge to the Av’s.
Avs trolls, you surely must have better ways to celebrate your team winning than by continuing to post your petty drivel on this board. Kudos to your team. Hope you feel better about yourselves.
Wild could’ve won. But the Avs actually did. Stinks, but that’s how it goes. Injuries hurt appreciably. But the season-long lack of scoring ultimately killed them. So did their knack for turtling whenever THEY had a chance to deliver knockout blows.
I think this team has plenty of talented players (and some that just plain don’t deserve to be back next year, too). I’m guessing what this year showed was that it just wasn’t the right mix. And both DR & JL knew it. Besides the crazy price it would’ve taken to land a Jokinen type at the deadline (still not sure why they wouldn’t cough up whatever it would’ve taken to get Federov), I really believe DR knew this team wasn’t just a center or a scorer away. Too much of the wrong mix and not nearly enough character.
I’d love to see Rolston re-signed, PMB re-signed, Brunette back as a FA, and a clear-headed approach to building the best set of 3 genuine scoring lines they can. The Veilleux/Radio/whomever line needs to be the 4th line, not the 3rd with a hardly-visible 4th behind them. No wonder we couldn’t score enough goals.
Can’t wait for next year, but it should be a very intriguing summer between now & then.
MNBrew, I say we must keep(I’m not necessarily referring to those who’s contract are up) Rolston, Koivu, Burns, Shep,Harding, Schultz, Boogie, Fridge, Johnsson (though he should be better), Veilleux, Radio. Iffy on belanger, parrish, Pouliot, Voros, carne,…but the rest, particularly gabby and demitra, trade fodder.
drnugget, I just have 1 thing to say to you. Go F&%K YOURSELF….. Classy act to bring the 35W tragedy into this where 13 people died and 20 seriously injured…. Thank you and good night
Just one more thing before bedtime. All this talk about the Wild injuries. Do you realize that the Avs lost their leading scorer, Marek Svatos in early March? With him in the lineup this would have been a 4 game sweep.
Well said MNBrew.
I suspect there will be a lot of retooling this offseason. I hope Demo is gone next year, but how will that affect resigning Gaborik?
Secuel, we need to trade Gaborik, he’s alluded to the fact he wants to leave (and I’m hoping he does), so let’s get someone for him..like Malkin we can send Demitra with him too for a draft pick.
phil- Parrish is a tough one to be “iffy” on. He still has three years left on his contract. Don’t know what DR’s gonna do with him if he doesn’t bounce back strong next season.
Wow, I didn’t realize the Trolls cared so much to hang out on our blog so long. News flash for you- you’re not bothering anyone, and no one cares. Why don’t you leave mommy’s basement and get some fresh air, or better, a life.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Gaborik traded if they can get a full deal for him, but his disappearing act this postseason I think hurts his trade value.
No one has ever said Avs fans were classy.
Sec, if Parrish doesn’t have a no-trade clause, he’s fair game, we over paid for him and that could make things tough.
gabby’s disappearing act might not harm him/us if we trade to the Eastern conference.
Backstrom was the only Wild player with a no-trade clause and I believe that expired at the deadline this season.
Do the Wild go after a goalie next year as well?
Can’t trade Demitra because he’s a FA.
It seems too often that when it comes to crunch time, two issues pervaded the Wild this year:
1. While they didn’t lack it entirely (see Roli, Koivu, Burns) sufficient character was definitely lacking up and down the roster.
2. Too few guys proved that they can both produce like studs AND make the players around them better.
One example of the problem of #2 is Mark Parrish. Parrish didn’t just suddenly forget how to play. He needs good other players to help maximize his game. No one on this team consistently helped really take advantage of Parrish’s game and make him better.
They don’t necessarily need to trade Gabby IF they can land the right sort of someone who will help make him better. That said, I would see, for instance, if FL would nibble at Gaborik for Jokinen. Gaborik seems like a good dude, all in all, but maybe not a good natural leader.
Give DR some credit for not getting sucked into all the no-trade clauses like some GMs have.
I have mixed feelings about Gabby. Some games he’s nearly unstoppable and capable of bringing the fans out of their seat on every shift. Then there’s stretches like the last seven games where he does nothing. He’s a very one-dimensional player and that bothers me.
Good question hockey32. Been wondering that myself. Backstrom was dramatically outplayed in this series. Backs just doesn’t seem to have those game saving saves in him.
Two more things:
1. I think the Backstrom/Harding tandem is actually pretty darn good — not perfect, but VERY serviceable. If the Wild could ever score, merely being mortal wouldn’t make them seem like the team’s weakest link (which I blame in part on lack of defensive depth past the top 4).
2. Kim Johnsson surely has not lived up to his billing when he arrived as a strong offensive defenseman. The guy is a minute-chomping workhorse and can move the puck up ice well. But he’s not the offensive defenseman we thought we were getting. I’d gladly package him in a deal, though that’s not made so easy with that ugly contract.
Sorry, forgot for a moment how totally horrible Backstrom is in shootouts. Yeesh!
I’m not sure Gaborik is a good natural leader either, MNBrew. I’ve always felt captains need to be good all-around players. And willing to throw a check in the playoffs.
Mnhockey, good ?, Harding’s develpoment will be key.
Mnbrew, thanks for the Demitra correction.. I think gabby is not a leader, whats worse he is a whiner, and he is poison in the locker room for a variety of reasons that I don’t want to type all here.. so just 2 - 1.he lacks the heart of a champion, last year against the Ducks, when he was being hounded by Getzlaf, he literally whinned that he wanted JL to move him so he didn’t have to go up against Getz..what kind of leader says that? 2. this year he spoke numerous times of “deserving” the/to win..WTF!!??? you don’t “deserve” sh!t pal, you earn and be humble about it and let others sing your praises..I’m sure G* disagrees but I called that one in November about gabby and he’s proven himself useless in the playoffs.
IMHO both Backstrom and Harding took steps backwards this season. If they can regain their form of 2006-07, they’re just fine.
And Bob Mason seriously needs to work with the goalies on their puckhandling.
If Harding isn’t ready to go, I don’t know what we do about Backs..he’s a positional goaltender only..no good instincts or anticipation skills..I think the Avs, got the recon on backs that he goes down faster than a $10 hooker which is why they went high, a lot and we’re going home and they are going on.
MOST DEFINITELY about the puck skills Sec..those two are awful!
HOW COULD WE LOSE TO JOSE AND THE PUSSYCATS??????
- OUR MEDIOCRE GOALIE
- NO ONE WHO COULD ROOF A SHOT ON FLOPPIN JOSE
- CONTROL THE PLAY FOR SEVERAL MINUTES THEN DEFENSIVE MELTDOWN
- ZSA ZSA SHOULD NOT BE CAPTAIN. HE’S NOT A LEADER, SO DON’T TRY TO MAKE HIM ONE.
- RIDICULOUS LUCK WITH SCHULTZIE’S APPENDIX.
- ABSURD LACK OF SCORING FROM THE CENTER POSITION WITH BELANGER AND SHEPPARD.
On the bright side, this was so sad that it won’t be disappointing if our free agents leave. Hey LA Kings - can we have Patrick O’ Sullivan and our #1 back??????????
Hey Leipold, go sweet talk Brian Burke and convince him that he wants to come home to Minnesota, not to that Canadian zoo known as the Maple Loafs.
lol jb.
It’s hardly just the playoff performance that would cause me to consider trading Gaborik.
Locking up Schultz, Koivu, Burns looks really good. I do hope PMB is next.
This team NEEDS Rolston as well as the return of Andrew Brunette. Then it needs a couple scoring studs who are also complete players.
This team needs better defensemen top to bottom (top end is pretty respectable), more depth, better centermen, and MUCH more scoring.
Toronto should be close to the NHL equivalent of the Yankees, the Habs’ history notwithstanding. DR shouldn’t be sucked in by the perception of prestige. There’s also a media pressure to win in that market that is different than here. Personally, I believe Doug Risebrough shouldn’t look to go anywhere.
phil… I don’t think Backs had much to do with us not moving on. A weak defense meant he faced some unsavory situations more often than a deeper blue line would have allowed. Besides his game 4 beating, which most of were not his fault, Backs was solid and didn’t allow an unreasonable number of goals. More offensive production on the Wild’s part and a deeper defense and we’re talking about how Backs won this series for us.
I would be disappointed if Rolston isn’t resigned. The man really stepped up in the postseason and showed many of us a physical side we didn’t know he had.
After Rolston and Koivu, there was no offense in POs. PMB and Fridge had limited contributions that deserve some recognition.
Sheppard should become a pretty darn solid player. But he’s hardly a 3rd line centerman on a division winner. He will improve. But he still needs to grow a whole let.
oops - late night typo — “whole lot”
I am sorry to see the season end.
I can’t say that one or two people were at fault in our loss. It was a team loss: lack of scoring and huge defensive blunders (this includes Backs not stealing us a game).
I think for a long time Gaborik was looked upon to be the scoring leader. While he is rounding out his game, he is also finding his voice to be more of a leader.
Give him another season and you will see him more of a leader. This playoff season humbled him and hopefully, in the offseason, he will learn to handle 2-3 men on him.
Backstrom wasn’t the main reason for the postseason failure. But you need you goaltender to step up now and then and steal a game for your team. Jose Teddy did that in Games 1 and 5.
I would argue that Backs went toe to toe with Jose in game 2 and handed us a win. I think Backs stole us ot in game 1 and kept it close tonight.
On the bright side, I can now devote more attention to the upcoming fishing season.
G’nite all.
When Colorado got their breakaway goal, did anybody think that Backstom was going to be able to stop it?? If we had gotten that breakaway would anybody think that we would score? There’s the difference in the series.
One thing that bothers me is that Gabby as Captain needs to speak more to the media about the wins and losses of the team. He needs to own up to them and give explanations whether they win or lose.
It could be that he is not eloquent so don’t have great sound bytes like Rolston.
That will show to us that he is a leader. I am not sure if this is the Media or if its Gaborik or both.
We got beat at our own game. The Avs played the Trap better than we did.
They played a strong defensive game and capitalize on our mistakes, which is what the Wild use to do.
Rogue, certainly, there is “blame” to go around, but you look to your go to guy(s)..in our case gabby and you need your goalie to step up, neither happened…the ONLY great, not good, but great save I saw Backs make was on the penalty shot..these last two games, Backs was almost horrible…the Don agreed with my assessment of Backs last game, and tonight, those 2 goals should not have occurred..that’s called stepping up, but even then those saves would have just been good to really good, but not great. D problems played into it yes, but they should not have been insurmountable.
Wow, there’s some serious classless troll action going on here..remember fellas, Karma’s a b-tch and I hope all you folks rubbing it in get a good healthy dose.
Hats off to the Avs for a great series, the better team won, no excuses needed on the Wild’s part, they did their best, but was not good enough.
Now Kurtis Foster can call: “Let´s play … golf!”
Even with the 1 point series Gaboriks playoff numbers are very good it. The diffence is what his teamates added.
