Wild took Val-d’Or (former Quebec League team of Roberto Luongo) defenseman Marco Scandella with the 55th pick.

But the big news is the Islanders, the team that criticized the Gophers when it signed Kyle Okposo out of college at Christmastime, took Gophers incoming freshman Aaron Ness with the 40th pick.

Snow’s displeasure with the Gophers and coach Don Lucia was well reported by Star Tribune writer Brian Stensaas. Could this be Round 2? Ness said he’d stay a Gopher as long as the Islanders want him to because his goal is to play in the NHL.

So cause for concern? If you’re a Gophers fan, indeed.

Although, we talked to Snow and he changed his tune, saying he hopes Ness gets his degree at the U. Pause for …

Talked to Lucia, and he said taking Ness was a smart pick regardless of whether this was the Isles. He said this is old news as far as he’s concerned.

Wild took future Notre Dame defenseman Sean Lorenz in the fourth round.

Wild took left wing Eero Elo in the fifth round. He is so unknown, the draft was well into the sixth round when his name finally popped on the board.

I googled him. Apparently, he’s a hotel.
