Gabby’s indecesion hurts us on this one.

Guess the Wild wasn’t serious about Yelle, then. Its still a good idea for the Wild to be looking for a checking line center.

Classic post Russo!

sunshine says:

Gabby’s decision has no effect on Yelle. The Wild can still sign a sign a center for less than a $1 million for 1 year and still be able to afford Gaborik next year and have cap space flexibility.

The Bruins saw chatter started by Russo about the Wild being interested and they jumped in to get Yelle while the Wild looks at how our current centers will do.

Claire says:

If the Wild want a center for less than $1 million they’re going to have to go for Smolinski or someone like Erik Rasmussen, wait for waivers or pick from the minors. Everyone else signed in Europe. KHL contracts are solid, some other contracts may have “out” clauses but they’re making more money over there. They waited too long if that’s what they were looking for.

sunshine says:

I maintain that they were going to wait for a center to see how the current 4 do first. And maybe how Kolanos, Locke, Madsen, and other Aeros centers do before getting one. While the top 4 lack years of experience, they don’t lack talent.

Speaking of the Aeros centers how is the search for Adrian Foster information coming along ms. c? Paid out any candy bars yet?

I bet if you offered up Starbucks gifts cards as rewards Russo would have the information within seconds.

ms.conduct says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 5:38 pm

You’re probably right, Aaron. Though at this point, I’ve kinda written him off. Of all the players I talk about in my blog, he’s by far the most frequently searched for, though. That continues to blow my mind.

But what the hell. A couple of fancy lattes on me if you can solve the mystery of “Where’s Adrian?”, Mr. Russo.

As for centers, if the team isn’t going to add a true #1 center, then they just need to leave the position alone. We’ve got good centers in Houston who can fill in. They just need to have a good camp so Lemaire will trust them enough to call them up rather than running 3 centers ragged for period of time.

Aaron in Houston says:

Ryan Hamilton doesn’t play a lot of center but he would be good for a fill in center. Good at hunting down the puck, good positioning, strong in front of the net. I think that is a kid you’ll hear plenty about this year.

Out of nowhere I think he finished with 20 goals last season.

It feels like a beautiful fall day today, hockey players are starting to come back to town and I just got my pair of preseason tickets to the Wild vs Blackhawks game. Life is good. Could use a Gaborik update though…

Thought I read Owen Nolan’s had some mileage at center. Anybody know for sure?

ms.conduct says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 6:29 pm

He can take a face-off apparently but I’m not sure that equates to being a decent centerman for JL.

Lucky says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 6:31 pm

Ms.C is right. He can win a draw if our center gets kicked out but we’ll never see him playing a full game at center.

Gabsmustgo says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Gee. Maybe we will get a good center in the Gabby trade!! Let’s hope!

sunshine says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 7:49 pm

We don’t need another good center, we need a #1 center. There’s a difference.

And what’s the point of getting a #1 center when you don’t have at least a #1 winger play with him.

lol. Top notch Russo, I was completely drawn in with the headline and laughed my a$$ off when I opened the blog. too bad, Yeller is a good centerman and would fit well with the wild.

kj says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:08 pm

Nice…

How is it Russo can find the time to write these blog entries when he’s obviously busy patting himself on the back??? :P

And as an added bonus, we get a Rodent mention to boot!

Seriously, we currently have centers, they’re just inexperienced. And I bet they’re the ones on the ice on opening night. It’s a rebuilding year.

ms.conduct says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:11 pm

Anybody know where I can find game by game results for the previous AHL season? The Aeros JUST took all that down and now I need to do a little statistical studying and can’t find a game by game breakdown. There’s probably some obvious place I should be looking but I’m drawing a blank.

Don’t fret fantasy footballers! A friend of mine from Iowa filled the empty spot left by Klauss. Woot!

Mister Know it all says:

Mister Know it all has said before SRV would be his first choice to make a checking center out of him

AustinTXwildfan says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Oh, Kevin, just so you know… The draft is at 5:30 EST/6:30 CST.. I am too lazy to look for your old post (read drunk), but I think you may have said 6:30 for the draft your time.

Ms. C-

http://stats.theahl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=season&team_id=329&season_id=12&home_away=

Also has links for game summaries, game sheets… It is similar, but much scaled down version, of the NHLs stats machine. Enjoy.

Buddha says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Ms. C-

Remember… hundreds of sites… tons of info… all at your disposal… just let me know. If I don’t have it, I’ll find it.

Though I am not sure what the thing with Adrian Foster is… is he missing? Color me stupid, but I don’t know the back story here…

Kevin in PA says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:56 pm

EST is an hour ahead of CST, Austin. :P So it’s 7:30.

Buddha says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm

KiPA-

What? They are an hour ahead? Son of a… dang gov’t conspiracy I tells ya… I tells y’all… them thar East coasters always gots to be first at everythin…

Oh wait… you’re an east coaster aren’t you?

AustinTXwildfan says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 9:04 pm

“EST is an hour ahead of CST, Austin. So it’s 7:30.”

Like I said….

It’s been a rough day, and I am drunk… and lazy…

And Buddha, if that is a knock on Southerners…. I am with ya… I am not a Southerner, nor will I ever be.

Buddha says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 9:12 pm

Wasn’t really meant as a knock on anyone, but it does seem like one doesn’t it?

And I would pick on southerners, but some of my favorite people on here are southerners… Just because the rules and play of hockey are explained in terms of basketball in most southern cities shouldn’t count against them…

AustinTXwildfan says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 9:21 pm

The reason to knock on the south is THIS.

Buddha says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Nice… pulling out the Mitch Hedberg. Well played, indeed. Well played.

AustinTXwildfan says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:04 pm

Gotta love Mitch. He was a great man.

ms.conduct says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:40 pm

Thank you Buddha. I’ve spent so much time on the AHL site and have never seen their stats presented in that mode. Will bookmark.

As for Adrian Foster, that story has evolved, but the bottom line at this point is just wondering where he is and where he’s going this season. He was good in Houston and should have been snatched up by now, by us preferably, but certainly by someone.

Gonna ignore y’alls Southern hating. *sniff* I don’t really like the rest of the south either, but I am hopelessly, blindly in love with Texas. Gonna start calling all y’all “sugar” just to bug you. ;)

AustinTXwildfan says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Ms.coduct, I apologize (sort of) if I offend you, but man, Texas is no where near as awesome as Minnesota. And I say that having lived in both states. For one thing, I get ma’am-ed here way too often. I’m not old enough to be ma’am-ed!!

Oh, and food.

Buddha says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:53 pm

Ms. C- You are more than welcome. I will ask some people if they have heard anything about Foster, see if I can scrounge anything up.

As for hating on the south… it’s all in good fun. We love our backwards little cousins down there at the bad end of I-35.

The only time I was there, in Dallas, I liked when all the women called me sugar, or darlin’… but I was 20 and a raging hormone…

Good story though… guy comes up in a Mongolian Grill line, asks if I am from Cananda (because my shirt said Canada on it). I say, no, MN. He says, ah, close enough, it’s just a suburb. I said oh… you must be from Mexico. He said (bluntly), No, Texas. To which I of course responded… just a suburb.

I thought I was going to die.

Also liked the fact the the Texas Book Depository Building had a no guns sign on the door. Guess it was just a little late…

Buddha says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:56 pm

Yes… Mongolian Grill… the native food of Texas.

ms.conduct says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 pm

I get that. I’m sure if I moved to Minnesota, I’d think you mid-westerners were all a little whacked in the head. Home is home and everywhere else is … not home.

ms.conduct says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm

Oh man, Mongolian… love that stuff. But why the hell were you eating Mongolian in the Tex-mex and barbecue state?

ms.conduct says:

September 3rd, 2008 at 11:09 pm

And speaking of food…

Food.
