Saturday practice update; Sunday’s lineup
Posted on September 27th, 2008 – 3:35 PMBy Brian Stensaas
UPDATE: Just learned that Gaborik on Sunday morning will skate with fellow teammates not making the trip to Buffalo. He had previously been skating alone.
Brian Stensaas (aka Stenzie, Stensation, Stencil, Stenilicious, New Kent …), checking in after what was a long Saturday practice - for Wild coach Jacques Lemaire and a few others, anyway. Lemaire stayed on the ice with Brent Burns, Craig Weller, Tomas Mojzis and Nick Schultz for about 30 minutes after formal practice ended. Nothing fancy - just some extra ice time. Look for some comments from Jacques on this in tomorrow’s paper.
Only a few yawns noticed among the players on the ice, about 12 hours after flying back from Chicago. The coaching staff worked a lot on odd-man rushing sequences, using these forward pairings (in no specific order):
Veilleux-Nolan-Belanger
Boogaard-Weller-Pouliot
Gillies-Bouchard-Sheppard
Miettinen-Brunette-Koivu
Bouchard, by the way, skated the entire practice after being limited with back spasms earlier this week. He won’t travel to Buffalo, but Lemaire said he’s feeling better. Also on the injury front, Marek Zidlicky was held out Saturday due to a “sore leg” and Marian Gaborik, still out with that quad injury, skated earlier in the day. He will skate again Sunday morning - this time with teammates.
I’ll post the traveling roster for Sunday’s game at Buffalo below. The team has another day trip, flying out to Buffalo tomorrow afternoon after a skate at the X and returning to St. Paul after the game.
That’s it for now.
