Saturday’s game at Phoenix; Burns injured during warmups

Posted on November 1st, 2008 – 8:42 PM
By Michael Russo

Defenseman Brent Burns was a late scratch. He was hurt during Saturday night’s warmups. The Wild is calling it an “upper body” injury and he should be ready for Tuesday’s game in San Jose. Tomas Mojzis, who didn’t skate warmups, played. Erik Reitz was always in.

I didn’t see it, but it was probably a puck up high.

Something weird. Mojzis is MIA. I don’t know when he could have gotten hurt, but the Wild is saying he has an “upper body” injury. His last shift in the first was when he took the high-sticking penalty that led to the goal.

Good evening from Glendale.

Wild and Coyotes are currently skating warmups, and agitator Daniel Carcillo is busy getting as close to the Wild’s side of the ice as possible. He’s already had a few words with Brent Burns, but maybe they just know each other.

Craig Weller, the former Coyotes signed by the Wild, is scratched in his homecoming. Derek Boogaard, scratched against Montreal, is back in considering Phoenix is full of bulk and fighters, including Todd Fedoruk. Although, it looks like the Coyotes’ biggest fighter, Brian McGrattan, is scratched.

Tonight will be a special game for Kyle Turris and Colton Gillies. I wrote about this for Sunday’s paper, but the 19-year-old rookies are best friends having grown up together in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver. Turris’ parents are here for the occasion, and Turris suspects mom and pop will be shedding a tear or two when they see Turris and Gillies on an NHL rink together.

That’s it for now. I’ll be back after.

Forgot to mention yesterday, I ran into Doug Risebrough at the Minneapolis Airport yesterday morning. Had some coffee with the GM, and he was heading to Los Angeles, where he scouting the Ducks and Vancouver yesterday and Flames vs. Kings tonight.

Risebrough goes on scouting trips all year, so don’t jump to conclusions, but the Kings and Canucks are two teams in the Marian Gaborik sweepstakes. Of course, Gaborik remains sidelined as of now.

NHL trying to grow the game, yet center ice, vs, nhl network, channel 3 (duluth) nobody is carrying the game? Hard to reach new fans, when the hardcores can’t even get a fix.

Kevin in PA says:

yet center ice, vs, nhl network

Correct me if I’m wrong, but for Center Ice or NHLN to televise a game, don’t one of the teams have to be televising it? If so, hard to blame those two outlets.

I wonder why WCCO isn’t streaming it….strange….

ms.conduct says:

Oh so Avery is “my boy” now? Meh. Okay. Somebody’s gotta adopt the little bastard.

Thanks for the update Russo. I love that little agitant (is that a word?) move of trolling the center line during warm-ups. Clutter used to do that in Houston, kinda daring the other team to make a move. Heh.

We were gonna order dinner at halftime of the Texas game but I think we’ve both lost our appetites.

Go to wild.com for the radio link. wcco is probably airing the college hockey games.

LOL…

so, there isn’t even radio via the world wide web, is that right??

AustinTXwildfan says:

November 1st, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Wow, so we rely solely on an internet PxP for hockey tonight? That sucks…

Nick in New York says:

I can’t even get the p2p to work..wtf? I don’t know how we can have sell out’s 7 years runnin’ and still have non-televised games..

Nick in New York says:

November 1st, 2008 at 9:14 pm

okay, I got it by going to the Wild.nhl.com site, and clicking on the LISTEN link at the top of the score board thingy.

ms.conduct says:

November 1st, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Well, that’s interesting. Colton had a shot, a hit, and a shot in succession.

MNslappy says:

November 1st, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Nick, I think the only place you can get it is through Wild.com/NHL.com radio…WCCO isn’t streaming it.

Rayraydavies says:

I got it on 830. ????

I am not listening, but I will be on here checking the score ever few seconds or so ;)

buddha, austin..I spose but I think we shouldn’t be punished for PHX not selling out..total BS…guess the NHL doesn’t follow the NFL model. Is that the same reason the p2p doen’t have it either

AustinTXwildfan says:

November 1st, 2008 at 9:25 pm

Oh I see Kirk. That is stupid. Who watches that stupid Basketball stuff anyhow?

ms.conduct says:

AustinTXwildfan says:

AustinTXwildfan says:

That gamecenter thingy shows most of the Wild shots coming right directly in front of Ilya… gotta believe that they will score if they keep that up.

Kirk Wise says:

November 1st, 2008 at 9:28 pm

I agree. I can’t believe they couldn’t get more sponsor money from a Wild telecast as opposed to the Wolves. Don’t they get about 1500 people watching a game on TV?

Rayraydavies says:

Got to be a perfext storm to not have coverage here, even with CI. No sell out in PHO (means they aren;t televising it, Wolves playing (still more popular than the Wild, how I don’t know), meaning 45 is busy. FSN comitted to covering the Gophers before the season. Which would gain mare viewers? U of M v MSU, or Wild vs PHO? They made a call.

In my world and yours phil… read the Trib the day after the Wolves and Wild play, see which gets better placement, more coverage.

Ask Russo about it.

Sports coverage priorities:

Vikes
Gopher Football
Wolves
Gopher Basketball
Twins
Wild
Gohper Hockey (Unless they are hot, or a big game, then can move up over Wild)
High school football
Everything else

Sweet find, Ms. C.

Kirk Wise says:

November 1st, 2008 at 9:54 pm

Basically, it is really difficult to socre from the penalty box.

Kevin in PA says:

November 1st, 2008 at 11:10 pm

Offensive dmen aren’t supposed to take tons of PIMs… no?

Well, since they don’t know how to play defense, they may end up taking more holdings and hookings than someone who’s good.

Haha, Falness was none too impressed with Boedekker scoring the third star of the game. He sounded disgusted. I think he might have even said, “whoever that is.”

Very nice win tonight with all the injuries and the ‘Yotes with the home ice advantage (not the crowd, I’m talking about the brutal ice).

no goals, 4 assists, only 49 face off wins, 17 SOG… hell, Koivu had 8 just tonight.

AiH - Who were the first 2?

Well he had assists in three straight before tonight. Maybe not yet.

Though if you want Schneider to bolster hits or blocks and have another D to get rid of I could look into buying.

Buddha, I say you should try and trade him for someone middle of the road.. that way you at least get something for him. Unless there are some good pick on the FA list…

3rd Star: Boedekker
2nd Star: Belanger with the game winner
1st Star: Jokinen with a pair of goals

Haha, Falness just blasted Boedekker again on the post game show. Obviously I didn’t see the game, but Kurtz and Reid were calling Boedekker’s name quite a bit tonight.

I know Ms. C. I get down and thank the stars every time he wins. Though it hurts to do so, because he still plays for Calgary.

Freakin Todd White is doing better than Backstrom. Todd White.

ESPN is so messed up on what position they have players at. Zetterberg is a LW? But has 75 face off wins? O’Sullivan is a center but only has 3?

ms.conduct says:

Yeah, you know, I have so many Calgary players, I kinda can’t help but go for that team unless they’re playing us (*dread dread*).

Kevin in PA says:

Yahoo’s got them both C/LW. I guess ESPN doesn’t change or add to their positions when it becomes evident that they’re not playing what they thought.

Also, food.
