LATE AFTERNOON (5 p.m.) UPDATE:
The Wild finally wrapped practice a little after 3pm. Lots of folks around today from media circles, from local TV to the entire Toronto press. It was, at times, a zoo.
Nothing really too new to report from what’s below. The Wild PR staff issued a quick note saying Craig Weller is officially out for tomorrow’s game. Speaking of which, it will be the 500th straight game played for Andrew “Iron Man” Brunette. I made him feel nice and old when I mentioned James Sheppard this season played in his 100th career game. Sorry about that, Bruno.
I’ll have an item about his milestone in tomorrow’s paper. Also tomorrow, make sure to catch Russo’s nice read on Cal Clutterbuck.
Practice didn’t start until 2p.m. So we’re here a little later than normal. Players are still on the ice, but I thought I’d post something before it got too late.
Niklas Backstrom hopped a 6am flight back from Montreal this morning. He was back in time for practice, but did not skate today. Everyone else is here. Craig Weller, though, is not on the ice. He is still receiving treatment for his head injury. We might get an update later.
Eric Belanger just took a puck off his wrist – but he’s fine.
Backstrom, by the way, has the quote of the day. When told he now knows what sportswriters feel like after hopping on an early flight after a game, Backstrom quipped: “Stay in the bar til 3am and go to the airport?”
Oh the wit.
