Tavares to fall to rival Avs?

Word from the Draft floor is that John Tavares may fall right into the hands of the Northwest Division Colorado Avalanche. That’s because word seems to be leaking from the floor that the Islanders plan to take Brampton center Matt Duchene with the first overall pick.

If that is indeed true, Tampa will certainly take standout defenseman Victor Hedman, which means Tavaras, the London Knights superstar who used to be linemates with Cal Clutterbuck in Oshawa, will get to play the Wild an awful lot.

Also, I was told by a source about an hour ago that Phil Kessel to the Wild was unlikely at that point.

Doh! That would suck. Hopefully Tavares is a bust.

I tipped you off to that by alerting you to Tavares’ tweet.

What’s the supposed Tavares’s Twitter id?

So what is their new name going to be when they move to Kansas City?

I’d like to point out I don’t Twitter, I just saw someone on a message board mention it so I looked into it.

That is complete arse. There is no way the Isles take anyone but Tavares. The whole Nassau Coliseum will be burnt to the ground and nobody will like this team anymore. There are only 2 people who actually know.

I just started a twitter just to stay on top of all the rumors, perhaps after the free agency is over my life will return to normal and I’ll put the mouse and keyboard away for a while… But who am I kidding?

Or Harding and #12 for #3 if Tavares is there. A reunited London Knights scoring machine - CalJohn Take Me Away! ;)

New Russon tweet: For second time, I’m watching Fletcher and Pitt GM/old boss Ray Shero have a serious conversation; not talking about old times, family

Chris,

You forget this is the team that had the first overall pick in 2000 and passed on top ranked Danny Heatley and Marian Gaborik to take Rick DiPietro. THEN they turned around and traded two franchise players for garbage at the same draft. THEN the very next year traded the 2nd overall pick (Spezza) AND Chara to Ottawa for Yashin. Then signed Yashin to a deal over a decade long, THEN ended up buying him out from that deal. THEN gave DiPietro a deal over a decade long.

Moral of the story? The New York Islanders are bat sh!t crazy.

The longer we go without anything happening, the more I believe that Fletcher is just a bullsh**tter. Good GMs make things happen, regardless of “assets”

That’s a bit harsh. Is Ken Holland a good GM? Has he made anything happen?

It takes two parties to make things happen.

the 17,000 people at Nassau will hunt Snow down if Tavares isn’t picked. He is forced into making the right decision this time.

I’d agree with that, but that doesn’t mean Snow will make the right choice.

In Fletchers defense, has he come out and said he’s trading for (blank) or that he’s moving up or down in the draft?

You want to talk about a bullsh#tter? How about Burke telling the Toronto fans he’s trying to get Tavares or Hedmen?

I was going to post this the other day, but now it seems we’re getting to it …. people around here were furious that DR never pulled the trigger on anything, always relying on the old “it’s hard to find a fit” as the excuse. Fletcher has been saying the same thing lately.

Now, of course, it might be easier to find a “fit” if DR had left the team in a state of having no young assets and few picks, but still ….

Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but maybe Tampa trades Lecavalier and takes Tavares.

lukewarm says:

June 26th, 2009 at 5:34 pm

Russo’s latest Tweet..

Wild has couple possibilities still for trades, I am told, but will depend on what 2 teams do after draft starts; “decision on fly”

kgopher says:

June 26th, 2009 at 5:35 pm

I don’t want a trade just for the sake of making a trade. If we can’t improve the team and/or have to way overpay, I would rather Fletch stand pat. I don’t want another Simon. It sounds like they will make trade if the right one comes along (unlike DR) but aren’t going to be stupid and aquire someone just to say they made a deal. We don’t have that many assests to work with so cut him some slack. Would you rather have him stand pat or mortgage the farm & the team for someone that isn’t worth the farm or the team, let alone both? Personally, I say stand pat.

Don’t know what to root for right now…the Wild getting a good player in the draft or Fletcher to pull off a good (for the Wild) trade?

Let’s see how the night goes, shall we?

You missed a golden opportunity to say “It takes two to make a thing go right… it takes to to make it outta sight.”… At leat I think that’s how it goes.
