Lemaire to coach Devils
Posted on July 13th, 2009 – 12:35 PMBy Michael Russo
It’s official. Mario Tremblay comes with him. I can tell you the happiest guy in Jersey today (actually Traverse City, Mich.) is Brian Rolston.
Add: Got in contact with Rolston via text, who will be coached by Lemaire for a third time: “I am extremely happy that Jacques will be coaching me once again. I truly believe he is one of the best hockey coaches in the game.”
Onto Lemaire:
“I never did close the door on coaching. I said my time in Minnesota is over.”
“I had a great time in New Jersey in the 90s. I had some great memories and I hope to get some more.”
Not easy writing all this on blackberry. My laptop’s in the shop. Also, I don’t speak French.
“I never thought I’d be back. The five years I thought I’d cherish the rest of my life. But the situation right now is perfect for me.”
On Parise’s growth and under more restricted system, will he be hindered? “I don’t know what would be put in that’ll stop any player to perform at their best. He’s a kid that works offensively and defensively. … I’m not the coach that will stop any guys to perform and do what they’re good at.”
On Rolston: “He’s a guy that has to be put in the right situation. I’m not saying Brent didn’t do this, but he’s a guy we have to demand a little more. That’s my intention. That’s what we did in Minny and we’ll try to repeat that.”
Lou approached him before the draft.
“It would be a great thing to have a chance to win the Cup. I want to be part of this. If there’s a chance, I’d love to get another one.”
On Tremblay: “He’ll be in charge of the defense. I’ve been nine years with him and I think he’s a great complement of myself. He’s fun for the players. He knows how to deal with them in practices.”
Here is the original blog post June 9 predicting Lemaire would be the guy. http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/wildblog/2009/06/09/lemaire-back-to-jersey/

Hope it all goes well for him….
I’ll throw on the obligatory first
“They were paying the sound guy with proceeds from selling hot dogs. He even had to serve them, I think, since the crockpot was set up at the sound board table.”
……we don’t have time for a jog….Hello Cleveland!!!
“I’ve always thought that sound guys should get paid based on the quality of sound they mix, not based on the audience’s fondness for wieners.”
*drumroll*
That’s what she said.
Don’t know why JL is trying to justify himself. I don’t think this was a shock to ANYONE who isn’t living in a cave.
watch the devils go to the cup finals this year…….
Michael - awesome information. You are the best! So the basement closet gig in Montreal was to send some fun your way?
Also, I don’t speak French.
Neither does Jacques.
The question is do you speak Lemairese?
If the Devils play in the X this year JL will, and should, get a standing O. Glad Mario is with him.
Not a big surprise… and I think it might be a good fit.
I second that it’d be nice to see JL at the X.
from the last thread:
wow…..san jose has some serious cap issues……
they need to sign 7 players with 1.6 mil left…..
way too much money tied up at D, and not enough 3rd/4th line forwards….
I doubt we could get vlasic….he is their only young d-man signed long term at a good price….
the I see them trading either marleau or cheechoo…..you think we could fleece them for bela for cheechoo straight up?
good for JL…..
will be loved here always….
I think you’re on to something with Lemairese. I don’t think Parrish or Pouliot or Zids or Shep ever spoke it.
I think you’re on to something with Lemairese. I don’t think Parrish or Pouliot or Zids or Shep ever spoke it.
Skoula has his doctorate in it however.
Sorry about the laptop. Very funny Skoula comment Mr. Russo. You still have electronic gizmos to feed Russoville. We are happy with fresh info.
Anniversary wishes to ATX, KJ, BG. Encrimson’d: great story, yet sorry.
argon: I don’t think SJ is THAT desperate to trade either Marleau or Cheechoo straight up for Belanger. But you’re right, they’ve got a lot of men to sign and no cap room to do it with.
Maybe throw in…Pouliot?
list of possibilitys from surfing nhl numbers….
cheecho
Marleau
Briere
Doan
Drury
Heatley
Sharp
langkow
a boston forward: either sturm/savard maybe kessel……
Knuble
Hejduk…not cap pushed, but colo is rebuilding…..
cleary maybe….doubtful…but maybe..
on the wishful thinking front:
J. Stall
Bergeron
Semin (that’s also what she said)
J. Carter
Kane…(no way they can keep him now!….lol….not even close to a chance!)
“you think we could fleece them for bela for cheechoo straight up?”
If the San Jose GM is taking meth when Fletcher calls.
I think Pouliot will be given another shot. Maybe they could assign Nolan and Boogie to be his “effort coaches.” Or they could just stick a shock collar on him.
I am warming back up to marleau…as I’d prefer him over Thornton…..both have little heart….but at least marleau has the chance to recover….
koivu is our leader anyway, so veronica mars only has to score….something veronica mars is capable of…..
lol….see what I did there?
no we can’t get marsie straight up for bella…..maybe a combo of players because bella is a third center, and they desparately need a third center…
san jose needs to trade some one though…..
either thornton / Mars / Boyle / Michalik / cheechoo / Vlasic / errhof / Blake / Douglas
and I only see Mars/Big Joe/Cheech as players they would be willing to part with……even cheech is a strech there……
jordin…..clasic!
yes happy anys to appearently everyone here……
everyone on here is married and a laywer it seems…….how is anyone ever happy?
Not surprised to see JL back behind a bench, and not surprised MT is going with him.
From 2 threads ago, No ATX our Anniversary is the 6th, we just waited for our Duluth trip to celebrate. Happy late Anniversary to all those that just had theirs.
Russo, why do you have two posts on this in your blog? Are we supposed to care? How does this affect the Wild?
On another note, I wonder how long before Zach Parise demands a trade. From 94 points last season back to 65 a year. Ouch!
everyone on here is married and a laywer it seems…….how is anyone ever happy?
I’m an engineer and married. Mrs Wafer is a physical therapist, and I’m an engineer, so we’re both happy. (You ever see “Burn after Reading”?)
Good luck to Jacque in Zhersey.
Now maybe somebody will sign that bumb Skoula.
Just jokin, checking to see if woodcock was still around.

What does that have to do with the Wild? Why do we care?
Sorry, you set yourself up for that one Lala.
If the Devils were to win the Cup while JL is coaching NJ again, this could actually start a whole new wave of D-first mentality in the Eastern C.
And just when the NHL was on the verge of becoming relevant in the sporting public’s mind again…
Free Zach Parise!!!
parise will probobly play wing lala……it’s the centers that play extreme defense, so the parasies/rolstons/eliass of the world will actually score plenty of goals…..plus new jersey has way more offensive forwards than the wild ever have….
on why we care…..
JL was our coach for every year here, so obviously we care about his future…
plus this is a HOCKEY board, just as much as a wild board…..
Brainfreeze; Be careful, you’ll sound the ‘Skoula alarms’ if you say the wrong thing (or, anything at all)…
argon: If it makes you feel any better, neither my wife nor I are lawyers…as you can tell, I don’t have the gift of B.S., most other have.
ever had…..not ever have
OTH: +1
Actually OldTymer, I think the mentality has already changed in the east. Look at what the Leafs are doing - “getting bigger, tougher, grittier”, same with the Sens, now the Devils. I think most teams realize that to beat the Penguins or the caps they are going to have to play D - alot of D.
argon - Parise does play wing, Zajac played center on his line last year.
My bad, I will now go into my hiding place.
Man, I’d love to be married to a physical therapist. I’m always hurt.
Now that Jacque is in NJ, I don’t know if I should be happy or sad for Paul Martin.
JL will just finish what Sutter couldn’t. Jersey’s talent is a lot deeper than ours, and they were plenty defensive already, as everybody is. Jersey 4th in the league last year in GAA, MIN 2nd. Jersey scores 24 more goals than we do all season (gee, would Tenderloins have made a difference there?), and give up only 10 more than we did. And who was coaching who??
Parise, if he buys into “the system”, with the likes of Langenbrunner, Zajac, Rolston, are all going to succeed. Once again, different talent pool than we have here.
Jersey rules the Atlantic, for sure now. Best part is going to be watching that “suffocating” defense take it to Ghost 6 times a year. Think JL might want to make a statement to him?
Hope JL and MT the best, they deserve it.
Good luck to coach. Better luck to Wild.
Jersey rules the Atlantic, for sure now.
I’d take the Flyers over NJ right now. That team is built for the playoffs. I despise half the team, but I think they will be the team to beat.
It will be interesting to see who the next round of contenders will be. I think it will shape the future of the league.
Remember the focus on size and grit that came after the Ducks won the SC? If Toronto or Philly can bruise their way to a cup, we’ll see another round of “the re-birth” of physical hockey. Hopefully that won’t mean another signing like Chris Simon.
Close itals ![]()
Gaborik verses JL 6x a year is reason enough to purchase the Center Ice package for the 09′-10′ season…
Caveat: If Philly gets a goalie.
chinmusic +10
Philly spends too much time in the penalty box, and adding the goonage factor with the best cheap shot artist there is in Pronger, will not help that stat out at all. Ducks were second in the league in the box behind Philly.
Jersey wins the Atlantic again.
Now that he is coaching another team can we finally get him off of the banner on the top of the wild page? Gaborik also.
Ya, Pronger fits the Broadstreet bully thing to a T.
Speaking of Simon, I wonder when he’ll sign with Philly.
Philly does spend too much time in the box. Somebody said that they would rather win the fight than the game. So true.
NJ will probably win the Atlantic, but I would bet that Philly outperforms NJ in the playoffs though. Loser wears a moustache for a month. (My favorite bet ever)
Worse yet we traded for Simon.
Somebody said that they would rather win the fight than the game. So true.
Sounds like something Jack Edwards would say during a Bruins broadcast, but it is so true for Philly. I’ll take that bet Jordan.
Russo, so now that the JL deal is settled, and you know he’s going to coach and not be finishing basements, do you get to start your summer break now?
Think Rolston will be asking for optional practices midway through the season again?
Devils vs. Wild Stanley cup finals. Now wouldn’t that be something?
If I lose this bet (pretty good chance) and somebody remembers that I said this, my lady-friend is going to kill me. I have a beard and I will occasionally shave it into the white trash handlebar. She can’t look at me. I will be sleeping on the coach for a month…
Sorry, you set yourself up for that one Lala.
Don’t be sorry… Lala is a beotch.
I would have never guessed that Chris Simon’s career would turn into a punchline.
In ‘96 when CO won the Cup, Simon played on a 2nd line centered by Joe Salic (Scott Young was the other wing).
He scored 29 goals as a Capital in 99′-00′. (Can you imagine that kind of production out of Boogey?)
Trading for that stiff was, IMHO, what led to a cain of events in DR being axed.
Long live Chris Simon!!!
Don’t worry Jordan, I’ll remember it. I’ve already set a reminder in my calendar for around the time of the end of the season, lol.
As long as you may have to sleep on the couch, maybe it might be a little more entertaining for you if you explained that if you lost the bet, she had to grow the moustache? Just an idea…
Russo,
In your blog you quote say Lou approached him before the draft. Wasn’t Lemaire under contract with Minnesota until July 1st? Wouldn’t this be considered tampering?
Somebody’s trippin.
Obviously Eklund follow Russo. Per his Twitter: “Rumour: Skould to NJ (E4).
Tampering with a coach who resigned the day after the regular season?
Obviously Eklund follow Russo. Per his Twitter: “Rumour: Skould to NJ (E4).
That is just too funny.
Heatly rumors from the dumbass Eklund:
8. The Calgary Flames, Heatley’s hometown team, are also rumored to be “quietly” offering up a significant D-man.
9. The Blue Jackets are also trying behind the scenes to explore options and are beng nudged by Nash.
No way in HE-double-hockey-sticks. Eklund is so full of crap it’s jsut hilarious.
Thanks to Michael, this might be one of the 3 per cent of Eklund’s rumors that he correctly predicts.
Ya think? (e4)
Boredom reins supreme in NJ. Hopefully he does not repeat his mid 90’s success and ruin the league for another 10 years.
Rumor around the Flames blogoshere was Phaneuf could be shopped this season and that was before they signed Bowmeester. I’m not entirely sure Heatley’s trade value is that high after demanding a trade and refusing to waive his NTC. Still I wouldn’t be shocked to see Phaneuf for Heatley straight up.
- this might be one of the 3 per cent of Eklund’s rumors that he correctly predicts -
Well, folks, when you’re right 3% of the time, you’re wrong 97% of the time.
Still I wouldn’t be shocked to see Phaneuf for Heatley straight up.
That actually would me a move that would make sense for both teams except that Calgary would still be in cap trouble.
Stoned from the prospect thread: no, we didn’t leave until 11am, then had to stop & eat & get gas (which we did in Clearwater), heard about the roll over so detoured down hwy 10 on our own. Was still blocked on way home so we detoured on our own again.
Happy Anniversary to the kjs, bandgeeks, and Austins.
Congrats to JL & MT. Will miss JL behind the bench.
Wall,
I could be wrong but I’m almost positive they are close to the same cap hit? Isn’t Phaneuf making around $7Mil a year?
If the Devils win the cup next year, the wailing and nashing of teeth will make this blog nigh un-readable. There will trolls galore and despair will cover the whole of the fans of the Wild. Rocks fall, everybody dies.
Is it too early to start with Cup predictions?
too early still……
the cap hits are almost equal…..that isn’t what calgary is looking for….
they are right up against the cap….
If they are looking to trade phenuf…..I’d suggest Fletch to look into it….phenuf is a beast….even if he does prefer sloppy seconds….
if the devils win….all of the sudden every troll will know that “letting JL go was a huge mistake” conveniently forgeting that JL wanted to go away…..
2009-2010 Cup predictions:
EAST - Pens, Caps or Devils
WEST - Chicago or Detroit
THe WILD will finish 4th in their conference, have a below .500 record, and score about 12 goals more than last season, while giving up about 50 more.
Those poor fans in jersey! They will have to deal with less agressive hockey and now they have to try to understand what lemaire says after every game. The title should have said “dumb and dumber are next to coach New Jersey” I hope they top it off with Skoula. God! I cant believe we put up with these guys for so long.
wow…….such negativity!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
I see some troll’s are back:)
Well well, lets see here…
Congrats to Mr Lemaire. I’m glad to still see him find work, especially something that he likes to do. We are greatful for your hard work when you were here…. best of luck and rip the rangers teets off.
Mario, don’t argue with Marty no matter how cranky he is from not getting any from his sister in law the night before.
To those that want to talk about how Pronger to Philly is bad because they love to fight more, and dont like to win: Think for a moment please - pronger, the dirtiest player of the modern era is also one of the leagues darlings who cant get a true multi game suspension if someone else’s life depended on it. With him in Philly? Watch the “respectability” among the refs go up, and the suspensions go down.
Speaking of fighting, RIP Arturo. You and Micky are the two biggest reasons I follow any of your sport, and why I believe in the power of will again.
In closing, I am divorced, but currently back in school and might go to law school after for IP and trademark law. I’m not unhappy, but life could always be better.
Personally, I’m happy for JL and best of luck to him. The Devils are strong defensively, have one of the best goalies in Brodeur and have some firepower as well. Way more for JL to work with in the East.
Damp, I’m with wild1 on this. You must be on crack. Especially with picking the Caps to be in the conference finals. Next year is going to be their last shot before they land in salary cap Hell and they still don’t play defense. Also, the Wild are going to be a big enigma until the season starts. We just don’t know how a new system is going to work in the first year. The potential is there, but who really knows how this next year for the Wild is going to turn out?
I think I’m going to have to see a Devils/Rangers game this year.
Hmmm…think JL might know a thing or two about shutting down Gho$t?
Think Gho$t might want 30 goals against NJ this year?
Center Ice, here I come…
wild1……just remember a troll is one who spouts off without knowlege….attacks other posters for no reason….and/or just trys to get a reaction by saying crap…..like eklund……
damplands post wasn’t very troll like….I disagree with him, but he certainly is entitled to his opinion….
fitz’s comment on the other hand…..pretty close to trolling….not there all of the way, so he can redeem himself…..but calling JL and MT dumb and dumber…(that’s the announcers man!)….a little classless, and clearly not the case….jl is smarter than any of us blogger rubes…..
devil/ranger games will be fun…..
now I wish all a good night….I’m off to watch conan and crash for the start of a brand new day….hopefully the wild make some headway in some trade talks when I get back from work…..
peace y’all…..go wild!!!!
The Wild is improved from last year because we never had Ghost and now we have Havlat. We have a defense that can make other teams forwards pay when the puck is in our end now.
We have Sheppard and Gillies one more year older
We have PMB who should benefit from the change of JL
Burns will come in healthy
If JL had this team coming in for this year now that would be something.
Fletcher will need to give Richards more I am sure of it. The Wild need to make a move that gives them one more + Guy
Russo, tooting your own horn again, this time about some prediction on Jacques–one that almost anyone could make.
You really are a meathead. Can’t you come up with something not off the wire? Can’t you tell us all about the prospect camp or something that actually matters to this organization? Instead, you’re such a farce you have to rehash stories off the AP wire day in, day out.
Here’s a bold prediction (mark it: on July 13, 2009): Lemaire will NEVER win another Stanley Cup, and Parise will demand to be traded by the end of the 2010-2011 season.
Put that one in your one-hitter and take a good long drag, buddy.
brainfreeze and WRT. I’m across the pond so my time is way off. I figure SotB can handle the Skoula defense while I am gone. So fitz you know more hockey than JL–hmm and you are GM of what NHL team?
lmao at lala ripping on russo. Reminds me of the ekland boards. All they do is rip that guy. Good place to go for some laughs.

Hmmm… I see from two posts above this one that you are correct. Wish I could go back and edit that one now. It always amazes me how so many people read/watch/listen to stuff it would seem they rather would not and then complain about it.
Shoot, Chris jumped in there. Edit my 6:54 to read “three” instead of “two”. I was not referring to woodcock’s post.
Dale Tallon out as ‘Hawks GM, Stan Bowman replacing him. Move made very late last night.
If the Devils win the cup next year, the wailing and nashing of teeth will make this blog nigh un-readable.
Except for the trolls I doubt it. DR wanted JL out because he desperately needed to do whatever he could to sign some players and although CL was going to serve Smug anyway, new GMs usually want new coaches and I think we all know JL wouldn’t have coached for another GM here even if it was Lou. JL is where he should be right now in his coaching career, with a contender for the Cup not just the playoffs. Too bad DR couldn’t deliver a team like that for him here.

Hmmm, might the owner have realized there is a salary cap and they have two young guns who will demand major raises next summer? Maybe the owner realized that Hossa contract wasn’t such a good idea?
FFS, I don’t know it was so much DR wanted JL out, but more JL wanted out. Remember, last summer DR had to convince JL to come back? I think JL was probably getting frustrated with DR not filling the hole at center and also getting some resistance from certain players.
- I still don’t know what to make of the JL drama last summer but I agree that since there was no contender here that JL was also ready to move on. However, I still think DR painted himself into such a corner that he needed JL out.
- Looks like Tallon’s RFA mistake cost him but I bet he gets the FLA job is he wants it - sorry DR

Heatley hope still alive although I still don’t know how CF can beat the Oiler’s offer. I guess a 3 team trade with Harding in the mix could do it - at least we know the new GM will try.
Rumours are there are at least two other teams which have recently held discussions with Senators GM Bryan Murray but have only offered bloated contracts and underachieving players in return.
“What I’ve heard is Heatley is keeping the Edmonton door open in case nothing better comes along,” said an NHL source.
“I don’t think all the options have been exhausted yet. But the reality is there’s not much interest out there.”
…
Speculation is the Minnesota Wild remains a team looking for an offensive addition and the Columbus Blue Jackets have been named in connection with the unhappy winger.
http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Edmonton/2009/07/14/10125776-sun.html
Interesting stuff in that story about Tallon. Particularly the quote. Going back to TooL’s firing, as I said then, don’t challenge the boss’ authority, they will let you know unquestionably “I am the boss!”
KimmyJ to Ottawa rumor returning?
We all know Murray loves Kim. We could send along Harding and then Ottawa can regift Harding elsewhere (Chicago for Sharp?)
“Put that one in your one-hitter and take a good long drag, buddy.”
Lala, I too have commented on the Don’s propensity to stroke himself with the “I told you so’s”. It’s just who he is AND it’s all we (hockey fans)have so don’t piss him off or our only option will be listening to Glen Sonmor’s incoherent ramblings.
WORCESTER TELEGRAM: Bud Barth reports it’s possible the reason Bruins winger Phil Kessel hasn’t received an offer sheet yet is because rival teams are concerned about his weak defensive and physical play, plus concerns over the NHL economy and salary cap.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I think the economic concerns are the more pressing issues. Yes, Kessel’s all round game needs work but at only 21 he’s got plenty of time to improve and for teams seeking offensive depth Kessel would’ve been a tempting offer sheet target in previous years when the cap kept rising by an average of $6 million per year. It’s been suggested rival clubs might wait until late September to make an offer sheet as most of the Bruins cap space will be committed by that point to the upcoming season. That’s a possibility but most teams will also have committed to the 2009-10 season leaving very few with available space and the willingness to spend it at that point.
What do you guys think about this option if Fletcher’s plan is to wait it out for Bargains, He would not be a bargain but we would have the money to sign him to a contract in the price range he is looking for and Boston could not match?
Trade FSM/PMB and Harding to the Devils. That would re-unite Rolston and PMB. Harding would be next in line to replace Broduer because, really, how much longer will Broduer play? We should be able to get something quality back in return from the Devils, no?
OTTAWA SUN: Chris Stevenson reports the Edmonton Oilers patience regarding Dany Heatley may be wearing thin. Heatley rejected a trade to Edmonton on June 30th but hasn’t officially rejected Edmonton as a destination. The Oilers currently remain the only viable destination although the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets have been linked to Heatley.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Columbus Dispatch dismissed internet rumors linking the Blue Jackets to Heatley. I’d say they’re in better position to determine the viability of trade rumors regarding the Jackets. As for the Wild, unless the Senators back off asking for Brent Burns as part of the return for Heatley there’s no deal to be had there.
After looking at their roster, I’d really only want Clarkson, Zajak or Parise back.
Maybe they’ll throw in Frazee to make Mister Know It All happy?
Would you guys be willing to give up Burns in part of a deal to bring Heatley here? Sounds like that is the only way a deal gets done.
Boy Tallon’s screw-up on the RFA’s killed him–as it should. You have got to know your business. Forced the Hawks to sign Barker and Versteeg when they didn’t need to and could handicap them next year.
Does Murray think that Burns will be the second coming of Zdeno Chara?
Still waiting for CF to send Harding to Chicago for Sharp.
Not sure on this but does anyone no in hockey if you sign a restricted free agent do you have to give the team draft picks or some kind of compensation?
It always amazes me how so many people read/watch/listen to stuff it would seem they rather would not and then complain about it.
Agreed. No one is twisting your arm to get you to read this blog. Lala needs go play in traffic. She just sounds like a bitter wannabe sports writer that has nothing better to do than rip The Don.
Hmmm, might the owner have realized there is a salary cap and they have two young guns who will demand major raises next summer? Maybe the owner realized that Hossa contract wasn’t such a good idea?
According to MFTHF, Scotty Bowman had a hand in making this happen. He said it seemed very underhanded and shady. Take that FWIW.
No way would I ever take Frazee…I don’t enjoy watching full ice goals get scored against my team.
Columbus Blue Jackets have been named in connection with the unhappy winger.
I just don’t see this. What do they have to give other than Nash? And wouldn’t the “fans” in C-Bus throw an absolute FIT if Nash says buh-bye? I know I would… that dood is a great player.
I think it was less Hossa than it was related to the screw-up on the RFA’s. Hossa seemed like a smart deal.
ATX, it also often amazes me how many people can’t differentiate between a blog (informal) and actual reporting which goes into the paper (formal).
I’d agree 100% on Russo’s “I told you so” if it were in the paper, but here, on his blog, he can type whatever he wants. If he wants to go off on a three paragraph rant about baseball - I’d be disappointed (that it wasn’t hockey), but not complaining.
Good @ 8:54
+1 Indeed sir. Nail, meet Hammer.
woodcock, I think it was probably a number of things. I think the Hossa contract would be great if Toews and Kane were already signed long term, but with them coming up shortly… Add in the RFA issue…
Trade FSM/PMB and Harding to the Devils
No Thanks. Look to Chi-town for a trade IMO.
Would you guys be willing to give up Burns in part of a deal to bring Heatley here?
No. If Burns fully recovers from his concussion and his forward experiment last year, letting him go would be a huge mistake. Now, if his concussion symptoms were to be an issue, then I would have to say I would trade him. But hopefully that is a non-issue.

How’s this, I’d do this trade…
Heatley to CBJ, Nash to MIN, Harding + ? to OTT.
OTT gets rid of Heatley and his cap hit. CBJ gets a scoring upgrade and has the cap room. MIN gets a scoring upgrade on the much needed left side, less cap hit than Heatley and less player baggage.
Goody, you could be right. I figured he was rolling the dice on the Cup for next year with that signing but then the RFA screw-up doomed him. Even without that the Hossa deal was problematic but as Detroit has proven if you do these long-term contracts maybe you can work something out.
But why would CBJ get rid of Nash to get Heatley?
Is Kessel worth a first, second, and third? Considering he is only 21.
Heatley scores more goals than Nash (.513 vs .440)
Ya, I dont see CBJ dealing Nash after just resigning him. I think the only reason they were even looking into Heatley is because Nash was pushing them to add something.
woodcock, I don’t know. Crack? Heroin? Prescription pain killers?
Just a round about way of saying I’d rather have Nash than Heatley. I’d rather have Burns than Heatley too to answer Wildfan above.
Is Kessel worth a first, second, and third?
No. If you’re thinking CF should sign Kessel to an offer sheet, only if it’s under 2.6M per, say 10 mil over 4 years.
I don’t see how CMB could afford both Heatley and Nash, especially considering they have Huselius and RJ Umberger, who combine for 8.5M cap hit.
everyone on here is married and a laywer it seems
i’m not married to a lawyer. trying to but our austin friends haven’t sent me any prospects
But Nash is their home-grown guy, is probably more of an all-around player and doesn’t have any baggage.
Heatley to CBJ, Nash to MIN, Harding + ? to OTT.
Harding plus Burns is the only way that happens… and for the record… I would pull the trigger on that. Nash is amazing - and only 25 I think. No offense Burnsie.
Bringin in Mario Tremblay with him to the Devils is really going to create some language barriers being that Tremblay his harder to understand than JL…I’m sure alot of the players will be leaning in & asking, “Huh”? What did you say? Some of that “Lemairese” that was mentioned earlier.
And “Go Skoula, Go”!! Go somewhere else that is!
trying to but our austin friends haven’t sent me any prospects
Sorry G*… it seems (as they say around here) that the cupboard is bare right now.
FOod
Hey Pewterschnidt - What the heck? Why would you rip on Glen Sonmor? Classless.
He has forgotten more about hockey than you will ever know.
Here are Some Comments from the New Jersey Devils Website On Lemaires New Gig…Posted by northnjdev on 07/14/09 at 10:34AM

Great move! Lemaire and the other hall of fame coaches are there to teach these younger players how to play better and how to win. All the coaches are winners and where the best at their positions.
This is a coaching decision that will pay off not only in the short term, but it will provide residual returns for years after Lemaire is gone…just like the first time he coached.
What good is having young talent come up if they aren’t taught properly from talented coaches?
Brodeur will also benefit by the smarter defensive play in front of him. I think we’ll see some smart positioning and a quick transition game. Now if they can only get another assistant coach that was a natural sniper in his day to teach these guys to put the puck in the net more often…how about Mogilny
Kinda 50/50 with the choice as well…
If he was gonna coach again he should have let the Wild fire him. I’ve cheered from him enough, he drove Gaborik out of town then quite on my team. I can’t wait to see what Ovechkin and Gaborik do to his system. You can only rely on a 40 year old goalie for so long.
Russo, before you go there is something you should know about us
I am your father’s brother’s cousin’s nephew’s former roommate
[…] “I never did close the door on coaching. I said my time in Minnesota is over,” said Lemaire. […]
