Canada’s RDS is reporting tonight that free agent Alex Tanguay has agreed to terms with Tampa Bay. I have a story in tomorrow’s paper - the original might be online now - that reported that the Wild offered him a one-year, $2.5 million deal - the most it could really offer him.
That deal would have put the Wild over the cap.
As I guessed in the story, Tanguay was signing with Tampa all along and was stalling to try to get more than the one-year, $2 million deal the Lightning was originally offering. Its unknown right now what Tanguay signed for, but Tanguay knew Tampa had a lot more cap room than the Wild and could move a bit. We’ll see if they did.
But the opportunity to play on a line with Vinny Lecavalier was too good for Tanguay to pass up. I’ll put this in a lot better context for you in the morning when I’m on my laptop and not my Blackberry.
