Sunday practice update
Posted on September 27th, 2009 – 11:07 AMBy Michael Russo
Just from a quick glance, injured/ill guys Mikko Koivu, Andrew Brunette, Shane Hnidy, Pierre-Marc Bouchard are practicing.
No Petr Sykora, Kim Johnsson, Benoit Pouliot, obviously Derek Boogaard.
Sunday afternoon update:
Todd Richards’ longest practice of the camp today. He spent most the time on the power play after he said a few players, on behalf of other players, came to him a few days ago and said the team wasn’t grasping what he wanted on the power play, especially the breakout.
The team working on it a ton today and he felt they “got it.”
Richards expects Koivu and Brunette will make their preseason debuts in Tuesday’s preseason finale in Philadelphia. He expects Shane Hnidy to play for the first time since Sept. 15 as well. Bouchard is questionable, as are Petr Sykora and Benoit Pouliot, who skated on their own today. Richards does expected Kim Johnsson to play, although Johnsson didn’t practice today.
One little concern. Bouchard still isn’t feeling well. He said he has headaches still and is lethargic. He said right now he’s treating it as flu-like symptoms, but if it doesn’t go away, he’ll start asking more questions about a possible concussion. Remember, Bouchard missed the final eight games of last season with a concussion.
That’s it for today. Columnist Rachel Blount, our Olympics writer and former Gophers/North Stars hockey writer, is the new No. 2 and will be covering the team tomorrow. I’ll talk to you next from Philadelphia.
