Bouchard removed from lineup with “recurring headaches”

Posted on October 6th, 2009 – 7:26 PM
By Michael Russo

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher just announced that center/winger Pierre-Marc Bouchard came to coach Todd Richards after this morning’s skate to tell him he’s still not feeling well and had trouble sleeping last night with recurring headaches.

He’s been taken out of the lineup and the Wild will “seek out some medical solutions.”

Bouchard missed much of training camp with what was said to be an illness. He was dropping hints the last week to the media that he wondered if he had a concussion and “was not 100 percent.” He missed the last eight games of last season with a concussion.

Fletcher made clear that he doesn’t think it’s a concussion and that “he had a virus and the bloodwork showed he had a virus” and was telling the team he was feeling better.

Benoit Pouliot will dress tonight, and it’s unclear as to whether Pouliot will play center or wing as of yet because the Wild does have Kyle Brodziak, who has been playing wing.

So far the feed from 45 is the best I have seen on this channel. It is only pregame but still…

Hope Butch is going to be ok.

WildinATX says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:01 pm

Didn’t anyone tell the Twins that the Wild play at 8:15 and they shouldn’t go into 14 innings?

And I too hope that Butch is ok.

kgopher says:

Tough choice MN feed or Ducks feed on the free center ice preview

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:03 pm

So, I was listening to Fletcher’s announcement re: PMB and why did he mention Alan? Is this Alan, the agent? Why? Shouldn’t it be just the Wild medical staff, trainer, coach, GM, and PMB.

Lemmiwinks_ahp says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:04 pm

hmm…Kgoph that’s definitely choosing between the lesser of two evils

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:06 pm

Both feeds seem same quality too.

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:06 pm

I don’t think you can get NHL center ice (at least on comcast) if its broadcasted locally via KSTC or FSN. I have never been able to get it.

Wow on pmb

Wow on the wild bad luck

First pmb, brett favre, twins and a bad timed opening which should feature paros knocking out scott

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:09 pm

Both feeds seem same quality too. Think I will stick with the Wild since at least the homerism is slanted our way and I can see more of the home stuff.

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:14 pm

Sorry about the double post. Didn’t think I would get the center ice feed but it is showing up. I have Charter in the St. Cloud area.

What happened to the chick who normally sings the anthem?

mbrose says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:15 pm

Why is butch out there? Did he just dress for the ceremony? Boogey didn’t.

mbrose says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:16 pm

Kgopher I was wondering that too.

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:20 pm

new gm, new coach, new anthem singer?

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:21 pm

Ah, St. Cloud. I am in the Twin Cities. It would be nice to have choices.

skibumben says:

Cant get Center Ice (ATT U-Verse) so I bought the NHL Gamcenter package. Live in Chicago and I cant get the feed. No Wild hockey blows!

darkknight9 says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:24 pm

I have gamecenter and have the wild game

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:24 pm

Ya, usually don’t have them. If game is on local & NHL network, usually blacked out on NHL network. Got told by my cousin that Twins are what everyone is watching & who cares about the Wild opener.

I care and I didn’t watch football last night either, read a book while the mr. watched.

darkknight9 says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:25 pm

I’d give real money if I could never hear “we’re gonna bring in Brad Bombadir…”

Just say hey Brad or something.

Yeah its been a long day.

For those playing the Big John Scott drinking game, there was 1 already. I am not playing.

We as a people have gone insane because of the recession likely

To cheer for the twins to win the division and become the best of the worst suggests that we have all gone mad

Its ok to cheer but the fans are off their rocker bored to be like they are

The twin can’t go any further then be the best of the worst folks

The yankees will bloody anybody they play from our division

ndhockey mom says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:34 pm

how irritated am I that it is the Wild home opener and I am stuck watching the DUCKS feed? There is no justice.

kgopher says:

How many times are we going to have to see the news clip of Fletcher on the type of hockey he wants the Wild to play?

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

Midwest Product says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

Can anyone fill those of us who watched the Twins game in on what happened in the first?

Tim says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

I’m stuck watching the Ducks feed. Honestly though, I like these commentators a lot more than some of the others in the league *cough flyers*

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 8:59 pm

Lots of back and forth, Koivu just missed on a nice shot, Backs made a great save where he had to go from one side of the crease to the other, killed an interference penalty. Ducks getting a little chippy, Burns had a sweet, textbook hip check that had Stache chirping, look better then the Columbus game. All and all a pretty good period, but that is my opinion.

darkknight9 says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:00 pm

Midwest Product says:

Thanks, kgopher.

I’m really glad to see 45 doing justice to the video feed for once.

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:03 pm

Haven’t noticed him.

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:04 pm

That doesn’t mean anything though. I don’t usually single out players unless they make a great play or are a goalie.

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

In the first inning? or what happened with the Twins during the first period of the Wild game?

Just know that Gomez hit a single, Young was walked, Casilla hit a double — Gomez ran home. Game over. Tied 5-5, bottom of 13th.

Top of 13tht, the Tigers had the bases loaded. Someone hit a ground ball and Twins threw out someone at home. Two outs. Then Kepple struck out someone and got out of a very, very sticky situation.

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

You are welcome Midwest Product and ditto on the 45 feed.

I couldn’t even tell you Driver if Pool Boy is playing wing or center.

Driver says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

Alright, just curious. Missed the first period

Midwest Product says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:10 pm

Terrific puck control on this PP.

heather says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:11 pm

I think s/he meant what happened in the first period while we were all watching the Twins, sunshine. :-) Punto is the one who made the awesome play to throw the guy out at home. And they intentionally walked the guy in front of Casilla, so Casilla got a single to show them they’re stupid. :-) Go Wild! Go Twins!

Driver says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Scott just shoved him to the ice…

Ah…dang it…they scored

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:13 pm

It is so nice to see a power play that is actually played in the attacking end instead of being spent chasing back behind our own net and slow skating it back up then dumping it in and going for a line change.

FUDGE!!!!

Midwest Product says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:16 pm

I guess at least it wasn’t a shortie this time?

heather says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Stupid freaking Lupul. We still need a little work in shutting people down in front of our goaltender.

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:16 pm

The Twins were just a tad bit more exciting that the Wild/Ducks game. I don’t think I missed much in the first period.

Blood! Ewww!

heather says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:17 pm

Oofdah. Take a puck to the face, and it’s likely you’ll bleed.

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:19 pm

Our powerplay was pretty decent last year. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought we were in the Top 10 in PP.

For a time, that’s where most of our goals came from.

darkknight9 says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:19 pm

crap.

heather says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:19 pm

sunshine, how sad is it that watching paint dry (i.e., watching the Twins) is STILL more exciting than the Wild in our NEW system?? And DAMN - they scored AGAIN?!?!

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:20 pm

Ok, this was a good game. Fudge on the Ducks 2nd goal.

Midwest Product says:

CrazyBachmann says:

Bear72 says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:53 pm

One of those games where absolutely nothing is going right

Nico in Chisago Lakes says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:53 pm

I don’t think it’s uninspired, maybe a little disheartened. Primarily, though, I just think it’s because the Wild have not been healthy enough to play together to develop much line chemistry at all. Passes and timing are just slightly off. Too bad we fought the injury bug this preseason while a rookie coach is getting to know his team. Anaheim has gotten some pretty lucky bounces, though they’ve certainly capitalized on them. Fingers crossed we’ll have a solid 3rd period…

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 9:53 pm

We got jinxed in pregame. They mentioned multiple times that we have never lost a home opener.

CrazyBachmann says:

Enough of this talk about Saku not wanting to disrupt his brothers role on the team. Saku didn’t want to come to Minnesota…PERIOD. Had nothing to do with his brother. He knows the Wild are not close to being a playoff contender, so why not join Teemu with a much better chance to go deep in the playoffs.

AustinTXwildfan says:

CB, thank you for answering my question with another question, but it doesn’t actually tell me what moves you disapproved of and what you would have done differently. Still waiting…

C-Buck is going crazy! Let’s go boys!! PP time!! Haha, pp…

Driver says:

Great pressure. Wild pp?

CrazyBachmann says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:34 pm

Why didn’t Gabby sign. Why didn’t Saku sign. We need scoring. We had cap space for both. Cop out answer is they didn’t want to sign here. That is the Doug Risebrough answer. There were other scorers on the market as well.

Ben says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:34 pm

Come up with some rational thinking and maybe I’ll take you serious.

Simply saying koolaid is simply an ad hominem…if you know what that means.

Driver says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Skyora and Havlat not scoring?

Ben says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Whos been involved on the scoresheet tonight, CB?

Havlat and Sykora…oh wait, we signed those guys this offseason!!

Were you able to re-sign Gaborik and sign Hossa on your 2010 NHL season?

AustinTXwildfan says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Cop out answer is they didn’t want to sign here.

That is the TRUE answer. It is ultimately the Player’s descision. Get over it. Gaby had his bags packed a looooong time ago.

CrazyBachmann says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

And the real question is….the Wild are in a phase where they are struggling. Why hire a rookie GM and a rookie coach. Usually owners on the cheap do this. Like when Mike Tice was hired as coach of the Vikings under Red McCheap McCombs.

jay ferguson says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Missing Link urine tastes like grape Kool-Aid, but it doesn’t have the same effect.

Nico in Chisago Lakes says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:36 pm

Why must we always go through this ad nauseum? It isn’t CF’s fault that Gabby or Saku didn’t sign, CrazyB. Gabby wasn’t going to sign no matter what. They offered Saku a very good offer. And Havlat and Sykora wanted to play here - did you forget that?

Take a valium, dude, you are major league annoying.

CrazyBachmann says:

Nico in Chisago Lakes says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:37 pm

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELANGER!

Mr.Ected says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:37 pm

You didn’t pay much attention to either of those situations, did you? Saku took less money to play there because he didn’t want the “brother” effect. Can’t blame him there. Not much the Wild could do about it either, since you can’t exactly force someone to sign a contract.

And I lol’d at your Gabby signing want. He wanted nothing to do with this team, it was pretty obvious.

It’s not a cop out answer if it’s actually true.

Ben says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:37 pm

Haha, CB…

Now what were you saying??

Is that another assist for Havlat??

You should eat crow when you spew stupid crap…man up.

Great 3rd period… I wish the WIld would have played more like this in the first two and we wouldn’t be in OT.

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:43 pm

Well, ultimately, Gaborik and Saku didn’t want to sign here for whatever reason — Gaborik — wanted out of MN, Saku — Wild not playoff contender, Mikko, wanted to play with his BFF Selanne. Part of the rejection was the Wild itself.

At forwards — Hossa, Gaborik, Cammy, and Havlat were the top forwards. We got one of them because we had cap space after Chicago signed Hossa, Montreal got Cammy, and Rangers went with Gaborik. We and probably LA were the likely two teams that could have given Havlat a deal.

CrazyBachmann says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:44 pm

I think I want to get ziggy with it. Ziggy has a nice 5 hole. I hope to see more pucks go there.

AustinTXwildfan says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:46 pm

Cop out answer is they didn’t want to sign here.

Yeah, I love things that are fund to watch. That means I get paid, right?

CrazyBachmann says:

October 6th, 2009 at 10:46 pm

Sometimes things you don’t understand, are not meant to be understood. And when you have an oddman rush, always remember to cover the pass, let the goalie take the man with the big juicy puck.

kgopher says:

October 6th, 2009 at 11:15 pm

My cousin the Twins fan who thought I was crazy for watching hockey just pointed out to me that the Wild, Twins, and Vikings got a Minnesota Hat Trick. (He intended no pun when replying to my very happy status on facebook for the Wild win).

sunshine says:

October 6th, 2009 at 11:17 pm

I think against the Oilers in December 07 we came back from a three goal deficit and won it in OT on a goal by Nummy. That one was memorable. I just checked and our comeback started in the last few minutes of the 2nd period.

Vikings don’t matter. Me, Bozak, Douda, and the blow-up Bea are working on a plan to make them disappear from the planet.

WildinATX says:

October 6th, 2009 at 11:25 pm

I was very excited about the 3 for 3. I actually was convinced that we couldn’t do it, so I was torn between cheering for a Twins win and a Wild win (when the Twins game was in extra innings)!

WildinATX says:

October 6th, 2009 at 11:26 pm

yeah sunshine, I figured it had happened at least once. But often, expected — those are completely different questions. “Expect” it from the Wild? Definitely not. Like it from them? Hell yeah!

Well, welcome to the blog Driver!

GreenStar says:

October 6th, 2009 at 11:49 pm

strange night in the X. usually opening night is festive. tonight it was festive because the twins were tied and going into extra innings. many people didn’t go down to their seats and of those that did, i’d guess well over 50% were looking at their phones for updates, me included. Slover was right, the game was an afterthought.

1st two periods were shat. simply gawd awful hockey. looked like amateurs. completely different team in the third. if they can play like they did in the third the whole game, they may not win a ton of games but they will be entertaining. three guys in on forecheck. pucks flying to the net from all angles. d-men pinching from blue line almost as a rule before retreating. very nice. then wisniewski commits one of the dumbest penalties i’ve ever seen. game set match. dig it.

WildinATX says:

October 6th, 2009 at 11:55 pm

I disagree G*. It’s not that the game was an after-thought. It was more like one has finality and the other didn’t. That makes a huge difference.

Honestly, Mr. ATX and I watched the last 4 innings of the Twins game (and I’m pretty sure it is the first baseball game we have watched on TV). But, everytime there was a delay, we consistently said — don’t these people know that the Wild game has started! Get the game going! And often — why couldn’t you finish the game there!

But, we are in a different situation — we couldn’t go to either game and we recorded the Wild game (as per usual due to the early-for-me starts).

WildinATX says:

October 6th, 2009 at 11:56 pm

But, I do agree that the team looked terrible in the first two but looked completely different in the third and overtime. And by different, I mean way better.

Cam says:

October 7th, 2009 at 12:03 am

I agree with all things that GStar said. Burns really wants some more offensive moments. Everytime I looked he was deep in the offensive zone leaving his partner hanging. He got caught a few times and needs to better manage that attack. Period 1/2 were horrible, but the third they looked alive and Anaheim look stunned. Quite shocked by the end result tonight!

I give credit to Shep and Brodziak for making something out of nothing in OT. Shep started the scuffle and Brodziak came in and hit the Anaheim player after the play, then the player punched him and got the call. They both should have gone, the refs were possibly making up for the bogus Poolboy interference call on Giguere.

sunshine says:

October 7th, 2009 at 12:07 am

Afterthought or not, the Twins had more action than the first period of the Wild/Ducks game and its BASEBALL. It was riveting stuff.

FOTW says:

October 7th, 2009 at 12:13 am

WildinATX last season the Wild came back from 3-0 twice against the Sharks, once at the Shark Tank with Zids bouncer and the second at the X losing in OT
