Clutterbuck has high ankle sprain; no Hemsky
Posted on October 16th, 2009 – 11:54 AMBy Michael Russo
Update: Wild lucks out tonight. Right wing Ales Hemsky out for Edmonton with fever. Shawn Horcoff hopes to play w foot injury.
———————————-
Wild update: Martin Havlat appears out tonight. He is not skating this morning. It appears as if defenseman Jaime Sifers will make his Wild debut — as a winger. He’s wearing a green forward sweater instead of a maroon defenseman sweater.
—————————–
Update: Judging by whom the D are shooting on in the skate, Josh Harding is getting tonight’s start. Will confirm and update if incorrect.
———————————
An MRI has confirmed that injured right wing Cal Clutterbuck has a high ankle sprain, which is typically a six-to-eight week injury that even lingers after a player returns.
I expect that GM Chuck Fletcher will update the media after the morning skate, so more later. Wild will take the ice at 12:30 pm CDT, 11:30 local.
I hope to update lineup and starting goaltender later.

Wow that really sucks. So we’ll see him some time after Christmas break?
At least it wasn’t a break. Still, tough break.
Well, that’s no good.
I am forced to wonder if the quality of the ice has played a role in the Wild’s injury situation - maybe even their level of play.
NNNNOOOOOO!!!!! We have to have someone in Houston who is willing to sacrifice their body and slam into opposing players with wreckless abandon a dozen times a night. Ms. Conduct, are there any poor man’s Clutterbuck’s down there?
This coming from a huge Butch fan…I just saw on the Wild Website they are selling a “Butch Pack” ticket package- complete with PMB gear, and seats in the lower corner, which seems weird, since thats the last place a fan would sit to get a good look at him…

Dam# it! No one skates with as much intensity on our team as Clutterbuck. And lord knows we need some intensity out there. We’re getting out-skated to practically every loose puck.
Qualification: Pouliot has been picking up in intensity. Keep it up! It’ll pay off.
[…] Clutterbuck has a high ankle sprain and could be out for 6-8 weeks. Not good news for a Minnesota team that lacks physical players up […]
If I had a Clutter replacement down here, you think I’d tell you?
No, there’s only one Cal Clutterbuck. But we do have a hard working bunch here, so anybody you get will work his can off for you. Still haven’t seen enough of them in person to figure out who’s really bringing what to the table yet. Hopefully by middle of next week after 3 more games.
No Havlat = Win tonight for Minnesota. I agree With Richards that they will find a way. To me I would rather have a hurt Gaby in and out of the line up then him. Atleast Gaby was not a constant defensive liability
I now believe the Wild will figure out a way to get on the winning track
So Hemsky is out so this the Edmonton HOT LIST now, things are really looking better:
EDMONTON
Denis Grebeshkov (D) 6 pts in last 5 GP
Ladislav Smid (D) 2 pts in last 3 GP
Jason Strudwick (D/LW) 2 pts in last 3 GP
Dustin Penner (LW/RW) 4 pts in last 2 GP
Andrew Cogliano (C/W) 3 pts in last 2 GP
Gilbert Brule (C/RW) 3 pts in last 2 GP
Zack Stortini (RW) 2 pts in last 2 GP
Mike Comrie (C/W) 5 pts in last 6 GP
Patrick O’Sullivan (LW/RW) 3 pts in last 4 GP
Wishing Clutterbuck a speedy recovery. It must be driving him insane to not be out there, unlike #10 for the Rangers last year.
[…] probably Khabi, I’m working on it. Hemsky is out with fever. […]
Things keep getting better and better…
Boogaard v Stortini late in the 1st? ![]()
You would rather have Gaborik? Keep in mind that Gaborik is playing well in NY because he wants to. Gaborik was mentally checked out of MN a while ago and had no interest in digging for pucks or hustling. He would just hope someone got him the puck when he was open. Now that he is NY he is mentally “there” again and wants to prove something.
Bottom line: Gaborik would not play like he is now if he was still with us, I’ll take Havlat.
Are you kidding
+1
AYK…
I think you need to read my sentence again. I am bashing Gaborik and hope he never ends up in Minnesota uniform again. Gaborik last year while injured stated he wasn’t following the team while out injured and had to worry about himself. Clutterbuck wants to get back quickly because he cares about the TEAM.
Sorry AYK…I just read the comment of Mister Know it ALL and agree with you. Never want to see Gaborik back in Minnesota and hope he misses the trip at the end of the month or at the least Boogie or Scott hits him back to NY.
Andrew Ebbett is on waivers.
With Bouchard out, we should pick Ebbett up.
Ebbett isn’t real big, and he’s not an impact player yet, but he’s a better 2nd line center option then what we have now.
cmn donkey Fletcher
claim Ebbett now
Hey Micheal….
If you happen to get a peak at a Gophers lineup for tonight, let us know. It sort of sounds like a good share of us will be watching that instead.
I wondered about the ice-to-injury thing as well. Who knows. But another thing to consider is training camp conditioning and / or how hard the players were worked by TR early on. If he approached the early part of camp with a little too much ooooomph, that might have something to do with some of the injuries as well.
Harding huh?
Hopefully he gets some defensive help. Hopefully TR sat down with the D-crew and told them they are still responsible for D as their first priority. Scoring is a bonus, not the objective.
Cam,
I was referring to Mister Know it all. He would “prefer Gaborik in and out because at least he wasn’t a def. liability”

I was confused as to why AYK was talking about as well (though I do agree with him). I guess I’ve just gotten so good at seeing “Mister” and then skipping to the next post that I don’t even consciously realize he posted.

Pretty much what I do as well. In fact, I’m pretty sure the only one who pays attention to MKVN is MKVN and his various aliases.
Harding was bound to start either tonight or tomorrow night in Vancouver. I think it’s safer to start him the first night against the lesser of two evils.
I haven’t been around Russoville as much as I would have liked the past few months, so can someone tell me what “SODR” mean? Thanks
How much chuck could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck martin havlat?
….getting better and better. This year is REALLY going to suck!
phil, SoDR = Stench of Doug Risebrough
Thanks enc. I figured it had top be something about Dougie based on context, but just didn’t know what…thanks again..and it is a useful short-hand!

I love Butch too.. and that is funny!

thanks pew
Don’t use it too much though…it can become habit forming.
understood kj…you haven’t “forseen it” or anything have you? ![]()
Ouch!
Nope, I haven’t. I don’t forsee much in the near future for the Wild… ![]()
Gabby needed a change of scenery, and it was a change he wanted badly. Some posters have commented on the greatness that can follow a change of scenery. You know who you are.
Anyway, Gabby wants the bright lights. He didn’t want to be here, and it was abundantly clear when he wouldn’t sign despite DR and JL being gone. When you’re excuse for playing poorly leaves and you still don’t sign, that tells it all. F that guy. Good player but if his heart were half the size of his ego, he would be better than Gretzky.
I would have thought your seats for the “Butch Pack” were at the top of the circles, and they were always spinning around.
I think the lines tonight should be: Mittens/Mikko/Bruno/; Olden/Shep/Poolboy/; Hilbert/Bela/Smith/; Boogy/Brodzi/Sifers/; any comment?
Yoke, you took the words right out of my mouth.
Can someone explain to me why we keep using defensemen as worthless forwards instead of calling up guys like Gillies or even Irmen?
Is it salary cap related or something else?

I don’t see many variations that you could make on those lines. Maybe switch Smith and Brodz
Is it salary cap related or something else?
TR loves both Sifers and Scott, and hasn’t had a need to scratch Zanon or Zids, so might as well use them since they’re cheap, dirty who — Uh, yeah. Salary cap reasons is my guess.
Or #1 pick reasons…
justin, Gillies wasn’t called up last week because of his nose injury. Sifers is technically on the team as a defensemen so he’ll be used. I hear ya, though, about the constant offdefensemen experiments. Sick of ‘em, too.
There’s food up there you know…
