Takin’ it easy

“Wine makes the true savor of love intelligible to man.” – Colette
I’ve been a bit under the weather lately — that’s my excuse for no postings in a few days, and I’m by-gosh sticking with it — but it’s given me a chance to do some reading. In the process, I’ve found some great wine-soaked quotes, such as the one above. A few more of my faves:
“When you drank [wine], you felt as if you were in communion with the blood of the earth itself.” – Nikos Kasantzakis
*”[Wine] is the gift of nature that tastes on man’s foibles, his sense of the beautiful, his idealism and virtuosity.” – Kermit Lynch
“Wine rejoices the heart of man, and joy is the mother of all virtues.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe:
“There are many ways to the recognition of truth, and Burgundy is one of them.” – Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixin)
“God in his goodness sent the grapes/To cheer both great and small./Little fools will drink too much/And great fools none at all.” – Unknown
As an inveterate collector of wine and wine sayings, I’d welcome any additions to this collection. In the meantime, hope this provides some good cheer on a decidedly gloomy day.
One response to "Takin’ it easy"
“It is is better for pearls to pass through the lips of swine than good wine to pass through the lips of the indifferent”
Mark Luedtke
This quote came to mind after a party I attended in which I watched a whole group of people knock back glasses of a superb Viognier like they were in a college beer-drinking contest. And to hear them talk about how good it was appalled me; they had no more tasted that fantastic lush wine then one tastes from an aroma of grilling steak wafting down the street on a summer evening.
