Interesting stuff here. Lots of great caveats from Smart Money, although not all of it applies in this market. I especially like that it quotes Kermit Lynch, who for three-plus decades has been busting tail to find good value in southern Europe.
Lynch is also prominently featured in this post from the always-insightful Mike Steinberger. I was surprised, however, to see Jorge Ordonez & Co. missing from his list of impeccable importers. In my very first Liquid Assets column, I extolled the virtues of shopping via the back label, but Mike goes a lot deeper.
The Slate wine guru, by the way, has been involved in quite the contretemps involving two other redoubtable wine figures, blogger Dr. Vino and critic Robert Parker. It’s actually a bit surprising, given this dispute, that Parker is held up as being “beyond reproach” in the last item of the first link above.
