Counting the hours

Six hours and ticking until the 11 p.m. (Central) deadline for NBA teams to sign to contract extensions players selected in the 2004 draft. That means the most important piece to the Timberwolves’ future, forward Al Jefferson. The guess here: The dotted line goes unsigned until next summer, when the Wolves will match any offer Jefferson might get as a restricted free agent.

“I’d like to get something done, but if we don’t, it’s not like it’s the end of the world,” Wolves VP of basketball operations Kevin McHale said after the team’s practice on Wednesday. “It’s not like he’ll leave and not play Friday night. He’s under contract this year, so we’ll see. But I’d like to get something done.”
