Wolves at Clippers

Starting point guard Sebastian Telfair came to Staples Center Saturday night on crutches after badly turning his ankle in Friday’s 111-103 victory at Sacramento.
“It’ll be a while,” coach Randy Wittman said.
Telfair stayed in the locker room for the game because he didn’t have a sportcoat with him. He is not for the foreseeable future and until he returns, Wittman will get a look at Randy Foye moved over to the point-guard position that Foye considers his natural spot.
Foye started there with Marko Jaric alongside him Saturday against the Clippers.
“I’m excited about it, the chance to play point guard,” he said.

Recounting the Wolves’ many player-personnel missteps is a favorite hobby of posters here, so here’s another one: Remember that killer pre-draft workout Florida State’s Al Thornton had last June at Target Center, the one in which he savaged Corey Brewer, Kansas’ Julian Wright and Georgia Tech’s Thaddeus Young?
Thornton put those skills on display Saturday night, scoring 11 points before halftime.
The Wolves took Brewer with the seventh overall pick last June because, Wolves boss Kevin McHale said then, the team was impressed with his overall body of work that included two NCAA titles and a Final Four Most Outstanding Player award. The Clippers took Thornton with the 12th pick.
There’s no question that, right now, is the more developed player. He has an NBA body and a NBA offensive game. His 11.6 scoring average includes games of 33, 20 and 27 points in his last five games before last night. Now, who’ll be the better player in three or four years? Of course, we’ll see.
