Still waiting on Sebastian

The Wolves practiced for about 90 minutes Thursday in San Antonio in preparation for tonight’s game against the Spurs with point guard Sebastian Telfair still running and shooting on his own because of a sprained ankle sustained two weeks ago in Seattle.

Asked if he thinks there’s a good chance Telfair won’t play again this season — there are, after all, only 2 1/2 weeks and 12 games left — Wolves coach Randy Wittman hesitated a count and said, “Uh, I think he’ll be back. I anticipate it. We don’t have the luxury to say he needs to get four or five good practices under him like we normally maybe would because of where we’re at in the season. But I want to be sure he’s ready.”

Wittman said they’ll try to work Telfair into some of Saturday’s practice if he’s ready and then go from there.

In some ways, the Wolves’ point guard injuries have aided the franchise in this season of evaluation. Randy Foye’s long kneecap injury allowed Telfair to blossom. Telfair’s March injury, in turn, has allowed the Wolves to watch Foye run the show from the point, perhaps for the season’s final month.
