Love: Not Leaving Las Vegas Just Yet

Kevin Love’s relentless summer-league play has impressed more than the scouts sitting courtside: USA Basketball on Saturday selected him as one of two final players picked for a young select team that will practice and scrimmage against the U.S. Olympic team in Las Vegas this coming week.

Love and Robin Lopez join O.J. Mayo, Derrick Rose, Rodney Stuckey, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Luther Head, Al Horford, Andre Iguodala and Kevin Martin on a 12-man team that begins four days of training against the Olympians on Monday. Oklahoma City’s P.J. Carlesimo will coach that team.

I guess now he’ll discover how he’ll fare against the biggest, the quickest and the best well before he gets to fall training camp.

Love leads the Vegas summer league in rebounding with a 15 a game and is seventh in scoring (20.7 PPG, 45.1 percent) shooting entering tonight’s game against Milwaukee. He did not play most of the second half against the Bucks because of soreness in his right Achilles tendon, a precautionary move to keep him healthy when he joins the select team today. He will not expected to play in today’s summer-league finale against New York.
