Telfair suspended for three games

The NBA suspended Wolves guard Sebastian Telfair today for three games after he pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon from an April 2007 arrest when he was a member of the Boston Celtics.
The suspension comes a year and a half later because he was recently sentenced to three years’ probation for misdemeanor possession of a loaded handgun, speeding and driving without a license.
The suspension is for the first three games he’s healthy and eligible, which presumably will be the opener against Sacramento and games against Dallas and at Oklahoma City.
“I’ve talked to Sebastian about the incident,” said Kevin McHale, the Wolves vice president of basketball operations. “This is something that happened in the past, and he is looking forward to putting this behind him. Since he has been a member of the Timberwolves, Sebastian has been a great teammate and has been actively involved in the community. I couldn’t be more proud of Sebastian’s continued improvement as a basketball player and as a young man.”
During the offseason, Telfair signed a three-year contract that will pay him $2.3 million this year.
