Back to even after 95-85 loss to Mavs, on to OKC

I’m going to make this short and sweet because I have a flight to Oklahoma City in about six hours…
Randy Wittman lamented the lack of “trust” among his players on both ends of the floor in tonight’s loss. Either that, or the Wolves simply got their first look this season at a perennial Western Conference contender who exposed their defensive liabilities.
Randy Foye got sat down for the second consecutive game. Wednesday, he watched while Kevin Ollie played most of the fourth quarter. Last night, Wittman sat him down quickly after he took a rushed three-pointer in the third quarter. He put him back in the game in the fourth quarter, but at one point you could hear Wittman say to him about something, “I’m not going to tell you again.”
Afterward, Wittman said Foye “has to get better” but said point-guard play wasn’t the reason lost a game Wittman said he felt they could have won. Still, it sure can’t hurt when Sebastian Telfair comes back from his three-game suspension Wednesday against San Antonio.
Other things:
– Wittman brought Kevin Love back into the game in the second half a bit sooner than he might have after another energetic second-quarter appearance that helped the Wolves turn an 11-point deficit after a quarter into a one-point lead late in the second. At that point, he was plus-27 for the season’s first game and a half, but couldn’t sustain the momentum when he returned to the game with three-plus minutes left in the third. He finished even for the game.
– Al Jefferson tried to bring Erick Dampier away from the basket and spent much of the night missing from the outside rather than getting to the basket. He provided his second straight double-double but shot 5-for-15 to get his 14 points and 12 rebounds.
–Dwane Casey came back to Target Center for the first time since he cleaned out his office 22 months ago after the Wolves fired him as head coach. He’s back in the league as a Mavs assistant after doing SuperSonics TV and traveling the world conducting clinics while the Wolves paid him last season. He’s still trying to sell a house he owns here.
–Gerald Green, of course, came back to Target Center and hurt the Wolves with nine points, seven of those after halftime.
The Wolves flew to Oklahoma City after the game and play the Thunder there for the first time Sunday night at 6. They play there again later this month.
