Gameday Eve: Miller a go? More on ‘Melo, San Antonio

The Timberwolves’ traveling party didn’t get back to their homes til after 2 a.m. today, so there wasn’t much action about 10 hours later at the practice facility. Mostly, the team went through some light drills, watched film and shot free-throws. One good sign: Mike Miller seemed upbeat and was fooling around near the end of practice. He was landing fine on three-point jumpers. No signs of discomfort with that bum ankle, so we’ll see if he’s ready to go tomorrow against the Spurs.

Kevin McHale was asked if he feared Miller’s ankle injury might be that dreaded “high ankle” sprain that dogs so many athletes for an extended period of time.

“When I went to school I was a history major,” he said. “Then I got into communications. I didn’t do a lot of that medical stuff. My GPA was not nearly high enough. You’ll have to ask somebody else.”

Thanks, Mac.

Some more quotes from McHale today:

On Carmelo Anthony’s 33-point 3rd quarter Wednesday: “We tried some zone, we tried running at him. But, heck, he was catching and shooting before we could get over there. He was just rolling … When he started catching, shooting, turning and fading at the same time before the double team got there, I pretty much knew we were in trouble … It was a heck of a performance.”

On Tony Parker coming back to Target Center after going off for 55 points five weeks ago here: “Yeah, I saw that … It’s one of those deals where it took a super-human performance by Tony for those guys to win the game. And hopefully (Friday) he’s just normally-human, not super human.”

On the Wolves’ defensive options with Brewer and (possibly) Miller out: “Guys gotta buck up and play. One thing about injuries is: They happen, ‘A.’ And then ‘B’, it gives people who haven’t had an opportunity a chance to do something.”

We’ll all find out together how the Wolves fare this time around with the Spurs. I’ll be back on tomorrow after the morning shoot around and before the tip.
