Monday update

The Timberwolves are San Antonio bound at this moment. I don’t know if Mike Miller is traveling with the team. But he was walking pretty slow today on that bum right ankle he injured Saturday night and surely will not play tomorrow night. Coach Kevin McHale officially said Miller is “day-to-day” but you can bet there will be no rush to get him back this time. Remember, he sprained the same ankle Dec. 3 and came back nine days later. He matched his jersey number by playing 33 minutes in that game, and McHale cringed when he saw the final count. Expect no such situation this time around.
McHale also said today that Sebastian Telfair’s return to the lineup is coming. Telfair has not played a second in the Wolves past two games. Sounds like Kevin Ollie’s presence at point guard has been because of a mix of veteran leadership and hard work paying off. And with Miller out, you can expect more doses of Ollie.
Jerry’s en route to Texas and will have all your Wolves news from there tomorrow. He’s also headed to New York on the 26th. I’m off until Saturday’s game against the Magic.
Happy Holidays, everyone. Talk with you Saturday.

Hi Brian,
Next time you get a chance, can you ask McHale about Foye’s up and down season? I’m curious what the coach’s explanation is. Foye is at an age now where he should be able to play with some consistency.
Hi Brian,
Next time you get a chance, can you ask McHale how he still has a job?
Also, would you ask him if he backs up to get his check.
Thanks
Let Miller sit.
At this point in time his playing is not going to make a huge difference in the outcome of a game, or the season.
I would kind of like to see them go with this starting lineup against the Spurs.
Jefferson
Smith
Gomes
McCants
Foye
…
That puts Love in for 25 minutes, and against 2nd string guys to help build his confidence. It also brings Carney, Telfair, and other ball players that are secondary scorers, and puts the offense in Love’s hands. Let him shoot the ball to get out of his slump, and build his confidence.
This is the one area where McFailedabortion has to be of help. There are 3 players down low that had/have moves that are untouchable by other players.
Kevin Garnett
Hakeem Olajuan
Kevin McFailedabortion
He has McHale right here to show him some of the moves around the basket to keep him from getting ever 3rd shot blocked.
I also think it starts with the 10-15ft jump shot. Knock down 2-3 of them in a row and then a ball fake - step dunk would really bring the house down for the young man.
Plus Telfair needs to get in… he’s the only PG that can play any defense at all, and he is the best passing PG on the team as well.
Dear Santa… please bring a new front office to my favorite basketball club so I don’t feel like a fool for continuing to watch/listen to this “product”
I think that McHale is doing a marvelous job at putting together a young competitive team. The Wolves are fast and exciting and great at rebounding and team unity. They by far have the best young NBA talent. I can’t wait till the All Star break to see where we are placed. I bet near the Top of our division. McHale takes time to teach jefferson deffense and it shows in his everyday performance. Keep up the great work Kevin
jimmy bee,
Your post made me laugh - I hope it was meant to… ![]()
JMP Then it served it’s Holliday purpose
I read this often and jimmy, yours has been the best all year. if only it were true.:(
I’d like to point out that Foye has 8 assists in his last 100 minutes of playing time. So he makes a pass that gets us points once every 12 minutes. That’s pitiful for a starting point guard, especially in a point guard system like ours. I don’t know how many times I have to say it….Foye is not a point guard and we will go nowhere as long as he plays that position.
BC..
when you mix junk together, it’s still junk. It doesn’t matter who you perfume it with. Marginal size, marginal talent, poor shooters. Those that can score, don’t share the ball well…except for Miller who’s lost with this mess.
At least you mentioned OLAJUWON with your paint list. Garnett’s low post game…hmm, I must have missed that portion of his career.
Abdul-Jabbar’s skyhook and Wilt Chamberlain’s athleticism would be my other two.
Back to your main point…..It doesn’t matter who we start in SA.
We have no one to stop Tony. He’ll go wild. So will Manu.
Ball game.
I’m just stopping by to say HOLY CRAP! McFail (aka NBA’s McMillen) still has a job? They made him the Coach? Is the crew from “PUNKED” going to jump out onto the court at the next game? Funny stuff.
I don’t care how much Love is struggling, it’s not like he is going to hurt this team. He should be playing a minimum of 25-30 a game.
I watched Mayo running free with Memphis tonight throwing up his 15-20 shots a game. I’m sure he is happy that Mchale traded him. That has been a proven clutch move by Mchale time and time again. Pick the best player availible and hurry up and trade him for someone further down the line. He always outsmarts everybody else. I hope his wisdom translates to the Coaching job. That will be just neat.
Jimmy Bee is one funny son of a gun!
My pappy used to say you can’t polish a turd.
myth busters proved that you can in fact polish a turd…the Wolves so far must be something else
KG is untouchable down low ? Like McHale and Hakeem ? Thats laughable. 16 foot fade aways aren’t “down low”
untouchable low post players all time the list is four players deep:
Centers:
Kareem
Wilt
Hakeem
Shaq
Power Forwards:
Duncan
McHale
Malone
Barkley
Who’s on the “down low?
I assume you mean who’s on the “down low” LIST !
1. Hakeem
2. McHale
3. Kareem
4. Duncan
5. K-Love
Aka, my list is only 4 deep.
Paul Forrester on SI.com:
“3. Timberwolves coach Kevin McHale lamented last week that the expansion in media coverage and blogging of the league plays a big role in the lack of job security for coaches. We’d argue the intense scrutiny means a lot more people are thinking about the league in creative and critical ways than before. And if that means coaches who show little aptitude for the job are shown the door quicker than in the days of mainstream-only media, is that so bad? If McHale and his counterparts want to avoid the wrath of the dreaded media, there’s a simple solution: win, or at the very least, show progress.”
Was McHale saying that Jerry is the reason that Wittman was fired, and McHale lost his cushy office job?
Swan Dizzle No Barkley on your list or Rodman
In 1980, the Boston Celtics traded the number one pick, Joe Barry Carroll, to the Golden State Warriors for Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale (the number three pick). This is considered one of the more one-side trades in NBA history (although Joe Barry Carroll was an NBA All Star) and was instrumental in the Celtics being able to win three NBA championships in the 1980s.
Because Kevin McHale was a participant in such a trade (trading a high draft pick for a quality player and a not quite as high draft pick), I always expected that he would be interested in pulling off such a trade in his role as a GM. Hence, we have the O. J. Mayo for Mike Miller and Kevin Love trade.
The Celtics won the NBA championship in 1981, the season after the trade. I do not expect the same will happen for the Twolves this year.
