Wolves vs. Lakers: What is and what could have been…

Kobe and the Lakers are in town tonight for the first of their two Target Center visits this season.

Big Andrew Bynum is here, too.

Bynum is the other young fella Wolves then VPBO Kevin McHale contemplated building that big Kevin Garnett trade around. He elected to go with Boston and Al Jefferson instead because he considered more of an offensive anchor to rebuild a team around.

Early on tonight, it’s clear that the Bynum-Jefferson matchup at center isn’t quite a fair one, not with Al giving about three inches in height and probably more than that in wingspan up to Bynum, the 21 year old who is blossoming right before Phil Jackson’s eyes.

Granted, Bynum probably isn’t the kind of player to build a team around, but he looks awfully formidable with Pau Gasol, Kobe and sometimes reserve Lamar Odom beside him. It’ll be interesting to see if he’ll give the Lakers in the playoffs the muscle and grit they lacked in last year’s finals against Boston.
