Kevin McHale, Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes and Sebastian Telfair all are here at the new Boston Garden for today’s early game against the NBA champion Celtics, but Kevin Garnett is not.

The Timberwolves’ former franchise player reportedly is flat on his back at home in bed, out for today’s game because of the flu.

“For Kevin not to play any game is unusual,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. ” For him not to play this game means he’s really sick.”

Big Baby Davis will start in Garnett’s forward spot for this morning’s 11 o’clock game (Twin Cities time).

Rivers said he was notified Saturday night that Garnett had a high fever and was really ill.

“Honestly, I didn’t even change my game plan, which I should have done,” Rivers said.  “But I didn’t because I just assumed if anybody is bigger than the flu, it’s Kevin.  But I was wrong.”

Garnett missed one of last season’s two games against the Wolves because he was injured.
