Mr. Love is Western Conference’s Rookie of the Month

The Timberwolves’ latest shameless attempt at bribery — a gleaming bottle of glass cleaner to the media masses rather than a GPS unit to Western Conference coaches — hasn’t even made its way through the mail yet, but already Kevin Love is reaping the benefits.
On Friday, he was named the Western Conference’s Rookie of the Month for March after averaging 15.8 and 9.6 rebounds.
He started 16 of 17 games in the months, led the Wolves in rebounding 13 times and in scoring five times and had eight double doubles.
Just the day before, the team unveiled its “Mr. Love Miracle Glass Cleaner” (Best New Product of 2008-2009, dontcha know!) campaign to wrest the Rookie of the Year award from favorite Derrick Rose.
You can hear some groovy music, read expert testimonials, even see the rookie’s “infomercial”at www.votemrlove.com
(Although I wished he had channeled that brilliantly funny Shamwow guy a little more and maybe they could have completely shaved his head and put an earring on him. The best bit is Brian “The Custodian” Cardinal’s)
Randy Foye and Stephon Marbury are the only other Timberwolves player who won a Rookie of the Month award.
Let’s see if he can do the Rooke of the Month thing again in April. That road begins tonight in Salt Lake City against the Jazz, which will be without coach Jerry Sloan. He coached the Jazz in Thursday’s late game at Denver, then flew home to Illinois to attend the funeral of his 80 year old brother, who died Tuesday.
Assistant Phil Johnson will coach in his place.
