New Wolves president of basketball operations David Kahn and Kevin McHale met again over dinner Tuesday night — pizza this time — and will meet again next week, Kahn said today.

He said he feels no pressure to make a timely decision, only the right one. More on this later.

UPDATE:

Kahn said the next meeting hasn’t been scheduled and will be next week sometime because of McHale’s travel schedule. He also said he will be stepping back from providing more information about this ongoing procession.

“I didn’t intend for this to occur, but I think there’s a moment-to-moment breathless quality to it that I take responsibility for that,” he said. “That’s my fault. I would like to tone that down. Nothing’s going to happen this week, I will assure you of that. I don’t have a timetable. I don’t think it’s appropriate to have a timetable…I probably will pull back a bit and not be quite as moment to moment.

“I think anything I say or don’t say will become perhaps the proverbial tea leaves. I don’t want to do that at this stage.

Asked why he does not feel the need to resolve this situation more quickly, Kahn said, “Because the most important thing is to do this the right way and make certain the decision that is made is in the best interest of the Minnesota Timberwolves. And sometimes in making those types of decisions, you cannot allow yourself to be driven by schedule. You need to be driven by the process and make sure the process produces the best result. There’s really nothing I sense or feel that means it has to happen now. I’m a big believer in thoroughness and detal and preparation.

“Until last week, I had never spent any significant time with Kevin McHale in my life and we’re still only at about 4-5 hours total. That’s not a lot of time. And that’s because of schedules. I cannot simply shove everything aside — and neither could he — or I’d be doing a disservice to some of the needs we have right now, which is getting ready for this draft and trying to figure out how to change this team.”

Btw, if you want to know…They appear to be getting closer from this respect: Last time, they were diametrically opposed in their food choices — pork chop for the boss, cod for the prospective coach. This time, they both had pizza, although one had pepperoni, the other proscuitto and roma tomatoes. I’m betting Mac is the pepperoni guy.

As for this morning’s workouts, Wake Forest’s Jeff Teague was injured very early on in the session, which left VCU senior Eric Maynor without another guard to play against. Without Teague, they couldn’t do any 3-on-3 so Maynor drilled against forwards Damion James, DaJuan Summers and Ahmad Nivins.

SECOND UPDATE: Here are the players scheduled for tomorrow’s morning session that wraps up these four days of pre-draft workouts:

North Carolina guard Wayne Ellington, Arizona forward Chase Budinger, Pittsburgh forward Sam Young, Tennessee guard Tyler Smith, Xavier forward Derrick Brown and Arizona State forward Jeff Pendergraph
