What was that sound? Rubio, Flynn are your newest Wolves
Posted on June 25th, 2009 – 7:13 PMBy Jerry Zgoda
It was an eruption inside Target Center at the fan party when David Stern called Ricky Rubio’s name out for the Wolves.
You sure didn’t hear that often last winter.
It took about a second for that “Ole, ole, ole” soccer chant to resonate through NBA City.
Minutes later, the Wolves took Jonny Flynn of Syracuse next.
Two point guards?
What’s up with that?
Trade?
Nope, a Wolves spokesman rushed from upstairs right after the Flynn pick was made to tell us, promise us, swear they’re NOT trading either one.
Kahn is in the war room telling agents calling in wondering what the… that they intend to play those two together like the Pistons did Dumars and Isiah or the Celtics did Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge.
Kevin Love just tweeted, “These guys are going to love my outlets.”

Of course!
I did predict this on the last thread before the pick was made. Just sayin’. . .
Bucher says they are keeping both as of now??
No trade according to ESPN ! WTF !
????
WTF is t’wolves thinking. 2 point guards?
There will be a trade. Let’s see what the Knicks do.
That might just be interesting to keep them both. Especially given the hand check rules. Watch out.
The Wolves might be the next trend setter in the league. . .
Some “experts” said the Wolves would make two trades. Right now I’d say one is to leverage the point guard glut. The second will be to move up from 18. The night is still young.
Relax, I see Rubio at the 2 as well. Nothing wrong with having two gifted, dynamic ballhandlers on the court. Flynn oozes leadership.
They can’t come out and say “yeah we’re trading Flynn” that’s not how this works.
I see a trade coming for a high percentage shooting SG. Stay tuned.
We dont want hill
I’m simply stunned. But waiting for a trade. I expect the Wolves to win about 10 games next year if this stands.
Is there any guarantee Rubio is willing to come here? What kind of message does it send to Rubio to pick another point guard?
You knew the old Wolves were starting to emerge today when Kahn basically said that Kevin Love was untradeable.
They can’t just say “yeah we’re trading Flynn” that’s not how this works.
Great picks Kahn!!!!
Very proud to be a fan…
What is will be coming tonight???
oops
Heard rumors that Curry is going to Phoenix, that the Warriors picked him cause they new the Suns wanted him. Warriors are still trying to get the Amare deal done without giveing up Biedrens.
Kahn says Rubio may play in Spain next season because of buyout.
McFly… Rubio a 2-guard? C’mon. You’re looking at his height and not even remotely looking at his game.
That’s like saying that Craig Smith can play 2-guard because he’s 6-6.
What good team plays 2 pg’s heavy minutes?
They think Rubio might not come over due to the contract. Flynn is insurance. Kahn says they are keeping both.
One of those picks were made for someone else. This isn’t the final outcome.
Flynn
Rubio
Brewer
Love
Jefferson
That is a fast team.
I have a bad feeling… they’ll usually end up trading their better player for a worse one… It’ll be Roy-Foye debacle all over again. Taylor won’t pay for all 4 picks. He’d prefer to sell them instead of getting better trade values.
Flynn is a backup plan in case Rubio does’nt play this yr.
YEp Heard the same thing Tom on KFAN
If Rubio is traded, this franchise is dead to me….
DeMar DeRozan: Ladies and Gentlemen - meet the biggest bust of the 2009 NBA Draft.
The Wolves front office is saying that it will take “a blow away deal” to pry one of the two guards they drafted. They’re clearly posturing.2 minutes ago from web
Heh. DeMar might have been a bit more warming to the Wolves’ overtures. Now he’s in Canada.
I bet we’re trading Rubio…
You know we wanted Flynn all along and simply took Rubio because of his trade value.
Very Wolves-like to take the star player and trade him.. I’m gonna be bummed when it happens.
Maybe we’ll draft Eric Maynor at No. 18 and Darren Collison at No. 28.
Why take a backup plan at 6? You’re not playing for next year anyway so we just have 2 pg’s in 2 years when Rubio comes over.
Just added to my original post here. Check it. Wolves promise, assure, SWEAR they’re not trading either….
I’m liking this outcome more and more. Before the draft the Wolves were in the position of beeing fleeced in order to get the players they wanted.
Now, the Wolves are in position to fleece someone else if they decide they want to do so. This is looking good to me so far.
And with the # 5 and 6 picks in the NBA draft, the Timberwolves select…Michael Jackson and Ed Mcmahon!
Hey Ricky, you’re so fine! You’re so fine you blow my mind! HEY RICKY!
No. We’ll be taking Ty Lawson and Darren Collison.. All point guards.
On the other hand, I’m very excited to watch Flynn in a Wolves uniform. He’s dynamite.
The more I think about it, the more okay I’d be with keeping them both. It’s a really confusing move, but who’s not intrigued? They’re both really talented, they both can handle the ball, and Rubio can pass it and Flynn can take it to the whole.
Who honestly isn’t a little intrigued by a Rubio-Flynn backcourt? They both can play some defense, and has any team ever even tried something like this?
Let’s hope whoever Memphis wants at the 18th pick is still there.
Man the wolves still don’t have a guy on the roster who can hit a J or play D
We don’t even have a coach and we’re setting up a team that can only play up tempo. If nothing else it’s ballsy.
T’wolves is interested in hiring Mark Jackson; so they’ll draft as many point guards as possible.
I don’t know what to think, I really don’t.
What team has $6 mil lying around for a buyout and then $5-6 mil to pay him?? the NY KNICKS!!!
Watch out for a team that obviously needs a PG who drafts Gerald Henderson or something… that’s the team we’ll trade Flynn to.
We’ll get Gerald Henderson (great defender) and a haul from the team we trade with.
Someone talk me off the ledge. Who is a Flynn guru…someone explain this to me so it makes sense….
Just doesn’t make sense to me. But I guess there wasn’t a lot more to choose from at 6. Too bad Evans wasn’t still available. Shouldn’t one of our starting guards be a shooter?
Kahn is going to try to fleece somebody with Rubio.
Is there a trade in the works? I don’t understand why they took two guards that are the same.
Rubio’s NBA team (Wolves presumably) can only pay $500,000 of his buyout, I believe. Rest comes out of his pocket.
The Wolves are in a position to give up about 130 points a game next season.
Rubio is trying to get that buyout lowered to a rational level through legal means. Compared to what he makes in Spain, 5 mil buyout is insane. I wish him luck with that.
sammyboy says: Both Rubio and Flynn can defend very well.
Kevin McHale in the Draft Room??
Flynn has a career average of 0.2 blocks/game at Syracuse. At least he’ll get 1 block every 5 games.
Dare I say it - I think I’m starting to miss McHale!
A very McHale-like move… draft two pint-sized point guards and expect them to play in the NBA! Are you kidding me?! Tell us Mr Kahn, which one is gonna guard Kobe next year? What a M-O-R-O-N!
A better trade would have been to move up and take Evans or Harden…and you got neither! Rubio is the next Darko and Flynn is a clone of Telfair. GOOD GRIEF!!!! We’re doomed to another five years of McHale like ineptness in the front office! I suppose Cotton Fitzsimmons will be named the next coach, too! Even being Clippers fan is better than this.
Memo to Glen Taylor: SELL NOW or move them to a place far far away….
(See ya all in 5 years!)
Insane I say! Gotta assume one of them gets dealt. They will be exposed on the defensive end if those two play together.
Rubio doesn’t defend and Flynn is 5-4. If I wake up in the morning and these two are still on the roster than Kahn should be shown the door.
I love both Flynn and Rubio, but The Wolves need to move one of them.
Foo - Flynn can defend ? What else ?!
Do you think we could trade Rubio or Flynn for SF Danny Granger to play SF for us
kevin_love im on the tredmill as we speak…gotta start running with these 2 point gods9 minutes ago from web
Im going to be pissed if A) We keep both and do not make a trade. B) Trade Rubio! We do not have a solid starting 2 or 3. They have to trade Flynn, they just have to. Anyways, Im hoping for Sam Young at 18! Screw BJ Mullins!
Phantom - Rubio two-time league Defensive POY…
sam young will go to the pacers
Swan Dizzle:
Flynn makes some sense. Granted, not really with Rubio (in a conventional sense at least) but he’s the most athletic point guard in the draft, can get to the rim, is dynamic in transition, and is a natural leader who everybody he’s played with has rallied around.
wtf is wrong with drafting those two PG’s. trade Telfair or let him go after this year. no big problem. Trade Brown for anything, buy him out at the least. again–no problem.
Charlotte takes the local. Big shock, that.
How would we feel right now if we took two high-ceiling guys like Brandon Jennings and DeMar DeRozan? Honestly, I would feel better.
So what is gonna be Kahn?! Stop playing mind games with us!
Two pgs in the backcourt is not something new, the Pistons had great success with Thomas/Dumars combo in the late 80’s-90’s. Not trying to compare Rubio/Flynn to the bad boys, just saying teams have done it and been successful.
Sam Young… I’m a big fan, but he’s the OLDEST guy in the draft… older than Darko and LeBron!
I just don’t think he’s gonna be that much of an impact guy. He’ll have a decent career, but nothing special at all. I think he’ll be a poor-man’s Randy Foye.
All of the newbies to the blog posting that Rubio and Flynn can’t defend have zero credibility. Do some research before you spout off in public, M’kay?
Rubio and Flyn will dominate anyone who tries to post on them. Kobe does not stand a chance!
Why wouldn’t we take Stephen Curry over Jonny Flynn? That is insane.
The NBA game is played 5 on 5, folks. The days of the isolation 1 on 1 game are long gone. You people obviously haven’t been watching the NBA for a while.
MikeB - you’re saying that Flynn and Rubio aren’t high-upside guys?
Hurry, someone take Mullens so we don’t get stuck with his worthless @ss. I’ve never seen anyone suck as much as him.
Matty I know they can defend, but can they shoot?
Damn, I wanted Hansbrough, would’ve filled a huge hole on our team. Hopefully we can still get Darren Collison. yuck yuck
too high 4 TH
Tyler Hansborough= Christian Laettner
Matty -
Indeed… lots of fresh meat on this blog the last couple days. I like it, but there’s a lot of nonsense lately, that’s for sure.
Kahn is brilliant. The only risk in the draft was to have Rubio fall to him with no assurity he will sign - not to mention they haven’t worked him out. So Kahn thinks outside the box realizing there is a way to get the most value for his picks and not risk making an error with a hasty decision In effect he gets an “option” on the Rubio pick.
This allows time to figure out what will be the best way to maximize the value on the two picks he had. Rubio now comes in and while the Wolves negotiate AND evaluate they still have a great point guard (no risk with
Flynn) and a chance to decide how to use the value they just won. Lots of time to figure out what to do and lots of ways to find the best value for the opportunity now in hand. Plus the new coach will get some input.
David Kahn is too shrewd. His move guarantees “getting it right”… to use his phrase. Pretty amazing for a guy who started out a sports writer. Wow! … and more to come
Tom D - Flynn can hold his own as a jump shooter and Rubio has the potential to improve, IMO, because he doesn’t have major mechanical issues like Evans does, for example.
I still think they might do a trade, but I’m intrigued by the idea of rolling with them both.
I think Kahn’s got something up his sleep.
Another ridiculous “white players are all the same” comparison…
Christian Laettner was a composed, finesse-type player. Hansborough is a bully, hustle-type.
C’Mon, MacTheKnife… please tell me you were attempting to make a funny on that one.
Any trade will be OK as long as it includes Dan Cole the common man from KFAN radio.
Ok ok…but if we pick Ty Lawson at 18 I’m jumping out the window.
Jrue Holliday is gonna fall to us at 18. If not, there’s Teague, Lawson and Maynor. Then Collison or Mills at 28. Best ball handling team ever. Ladies and Gentleman your 2009 - 2010 Minnesota Globetrotters.
Rubio is worth the risk of a bust - which is not much of a risk. He was not intimidated playing Chris Paul as a 17 year old in a GOLD medal game. He’s been playing with MEN since he was 14. Great High schoolers and great college players play in that league in Europe and get schooled and warm benches.
Can we please refrain from the Rubio can’t defend or he will be dominated night in and night out by Kobe talk (A lot of players are dominated by Kobe) plus we have brewer for some reason.
Think of it this way - How are teams going to defend Flynn and Rubio in a couple years…At least we wouldn’t be like every other team.
Rubio is 6′5″ so calling him “pint-sized” is a bit disingenuous. Flynn is also going to be better than Telfair. Those two guys COULD play together, but I’m still half-expecting that one of them is going to be traded (hopefully Flynn, I love Rubio…)
That being said…I wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade:)
Jerry Zgoda says:

Is that true??? then I misunderstood, Maybe Rubio opts to play in Spain next yr?? FUK Earl Clark was just picked, wanted him at #18
Let’s see…The needed someone at the 2 so what did they do? Trade their starting 1 and draft two more…
Seems like old times…Only we didn’t draft a 4 or 5 like usual or a guy playing overseas who will never play for the team…
YAY!!
I don’t question taking two PGs in this draft, since they are young, and maybe not ready to start anyway. But not with the 5 and 6. I don’t think there is much separation between Flynn and several other PGs who would be available later. The bigger issue is that they need a veteran PG to bring either of these guys along, now you’re carrying 3 or 4 PGs. They’ve got to be dealing, and I don’t know how much value these guys have in a deep PG draft. Heck, look at the guys still on the board.
Foo, I’m saying they will have the same type of career. White, ACC big men all go down the same road when it comes to the NBA. I’m not one of those guys who thinks all white players are the same, just depends on the conference they come out of in college.
My boy Jrue is still sitting. He’s got to be squirming. Who else is still in the green room. How does PsychoT go before Holiday?
What if Jrue Holiday is still there at 18?
Yeah, Can’t believe Jrue Holiday is still on the board.
#18 - Holiday
#25 - Maynor - All PGs
Jrue Holiday dropping like a rock…
At worst Rubio plays in Spain gets even BETTER and the Wolves retain his rights next summer to trade or sign him?? Austin Daye at #18, there’s your shooter??
I kind of wanted Clark too.
I’m so sick of the wolves picking something and then trading it later it never works out.. Why not Rubio and Curry together that makes sense??? The GM is always smarter than everyone else.
Scratch Daye!!!!!! $HIT!!
At first I was confused about taking 2 pg’s, now I’m kinda liking the idea. We will have people who can get the ball to Big Al from all over the floor.
I can handle things! I’m smart! Not like everybody says… like dumb… I’m smart and I want respect!
Rubio is not strong enough to guard big guards and anyone can shoot over Flynn. We will be exposed on the perimeter.
Rubio as a DOY in a European league means little when he’ll be going up against nba talent.
Not too worried however as one of them is getting dealt.
Daye is coming to us in a trade…watch…
Rip Hamilton & Austin Daye to Minnesota for Jonny Flynn, Brian Cardinal and No. 28?
Just a thought… Rodney Stuckey is the only PG on The Pistons right now (unless you consider Will Bynum…)
yahoo sports: YahooSportsNBA TheKnicks are working hard to cut a deal with MInnesota for Ricky Rubio and one GM tells Yahoo that “it isn’t 100 percent, but likely”
Never know, Holiday might be the guy at 18 if Rubio is traded.
kevin_love- brandon jennings is gonna be late to his own funeral 3 minutes ago from web
What’s Love doing talking smack about other players?
God, if we trade Rubio, a year after trading away Mayo and a couple years after trading Roy, I am going to be just sick…
Anyone wanna tell me why in the world we didnt take curry?
Forge - interesting… could it be a 3-way trade involving the already-rumored MEM-NYK trade
Three-way deal:
MINNESOTA GETS:
1. Wilson Chandler
2. Hasheem Thabeet
3. Cap Filler
MEMPHIS GETS:
1. Quinton Richardson
2. Jordan Hill
NYK GETS:
1. Darko Milicic
2. Ricky Rubio
BJ Mullins or Jrue Holiday?
Why the hell would Memphis do that trade?
Mullens or Blair, I am guessing for the next pick…
The only reason I did not like Flynn was because I liked Evans and Rubio so much. Never expected him to be taken after Rubio. Thought they were far and away best players (with Curry) left, and of the three, the two with the chance to be big stars.
Holiday still there. Wow. Goes to Philly, I’m guessing.
The Timberpups have been without a top quality point since the franchise began(and yes this means that Pooh and Stephon don’t qualify). I don’t have a problem with using two picks to establish the most important position on the court. Next year we can worry about the frontcourt needs.
Matty they are buddies, he wanted him with the wolves. Take your blood pressure pills dude.
kevin_love jennings to new york? i talked to him today was hoping he would go there….brandon is my guy about 1 hour ago from web
Why is everyone stunned that Holiday is still there? He was pretty average last year….
Typical draft — Jrue Holiday off the board one pick before us.
Trading with the Knicks is a horrible idea. The only asset they have of any value to this team is Chandler. It would have made sense before they drafted to take Chandler + 8th for Rubio, but now that they drafted Hill, its pointless
Jrue… rumored to be Sacramento’s choice a few days ago and then he falls all the way to No. 17.
Give Kahn a chance. He has made great moves so far, lets see how this shakes out.
I remember years ago when we speaked Felton Spencer because he fit a need, we sucked then and still are not very good, so I like the idea of not picking for need but going with the best value.
If we take Mullens, I swear this will officially be a McHale draft.
BJ MULLENS!!! MY PREDICTION
That would be a disaster…
Oops, picked Felton Spencer. I need a spell checker.
BJ ? Noooooooooooooooooo !
It’s gotta be BJ Mullens or a trade-down right here.
Let’s take Blair. That could get us Thabeet. Blair, Flynn? Memphis has other stiff seven footers. They need a powerful big.
Any one hating on the picks can suck a %$ck! You dont know nothing if your hating on Kahns pick!
Rubio + Curry would have gone down as the best draft in T’wolves history…
Whoops! Forgot about Chauncy B! Top point guard that flowered elsewhere!
I’d rather have Rickert than Mullens. At least Rickert had an iota of talent.
Dave Sinikin on KFAN says The Wolves are furiously trying to trade the pick right now…
You know Kahn is a smart dude… he’s gotta plan, but it’s maddening to all of us right now because none of us have any clue what’s gonna happen.
I’d trade Jonny Flynn for Randy Foye straight up.
Mullens for Daye ?!
The wolves i bet and hope will chose Ty Lawson so then one of the three point guards will wind up being good
Mullens is likely worthless, but who do you take, a PG? Maynor?
Lawson is great value at #18. Too bad about those two PGs already…
HAHA
TY LAWSON!
Awesome!
LOL!!!! Now you think no trade????
oh my god!!
Lawson…WTF
I guess I have to give kudos for taking the best player available. Hopefully there is a master plan, but the value is certainly there.
Ok, now i’m pissed.
bye bye telfair
You pick the best value and sort it out later.
WTFFFFFFF…. Now, make it 4 out of 4. Get Collison at #28.
OMFG!!! They better have one helluva trade coming!!!
lol what a horrific draft;
three amazing point guards, but you can’t have a team full of them. there must be a trade going down. i am guessing flynn and something else to memphis for thabeet - thabeet, lawson and rubio makes for an amazing draft.
OK… I get that we’re trying to stock-pile talent with the assumption that we can leverage this for future value… future being tonight, right?
bye bye bobby brown hahahahaha
Ty Lawson traded to Denver for future draft pick.
TY Lawson is not a wolve they are trading him to the nuggets
Future Bobcat 1st round pick? Excellent trade…..
You know what? I’d rather have Ty Lawson than Jonny Flynn. We might as well have picked Jordan Hill at 6 and trading Love. Who wants a future Charlotte pick?
GREAT TRADE
Traded for a future pick. Sounds like a panic move at the last second…
Denver has the rights to Charlotte’s 2010 1st-round draft pick…
So we’re going to have three 1st-rounders next year.
GREAT MOVE, KAHN!
So we have Charlottes pick next year for Lawson?
5 PGs and 10 PFs ?
Should have traded Flynn and not Lawson
The value depends on the protection of the pick.
Sam Young?
Here are the protections to the Charlotte draft pick we just acquired:
>
>
>
Charlotte’s own 2010 1st round pick to Denver (top 12 protected in 2010, top 10 protected in 2011, top 8 protected in 2012, top 3 protected in 2013, and unprotected in the 2014 NBA Draft). [Charlotte-Denver, 6/25/2008]
We had 5 draft picks, we weren’t going to keep them all, trading one for a future Bobcat pick seems very shrewd…
Weak trade! There better be more!
Are we going to play Brewer at sg and take Taj Gibson at 28 for some athletic big
Thanks Foo. I think it is unlikely we will have that pick next year, can’t picture Charlotte topping 12 next year.
Okay, can we please take Meeks from KY with 28?
So we traded Lawson for a 1st rounder ?
Regardless of what year we get that Charlotte pick, this is all you need to know:
We traded the 18th pick in a terribly weak draft for a pick that’s highly-likely to be higher than 18 in a draft that will most-certainly be better than this year’s draft.
There’s Kahn doing what he said he’d do - sell high, buy low, maximize value.
“Traded for a future pick. Sounds like a panic move at the last second…”
It was reported the Wolves had a player in mind at 18 and if he wasn’t there we were trading the pick, and speculation was that it was Daye.
So, you’re completely wrong. And, we obviously weren’t signing 6 draft picks this year so why wouldn’t we trade for future picks at this point (especially because this is a “weak” draft).
Yup. Good trade.
Here are the terms and conditions of the pick :The pick would then be protected by a sliding scale, where Charlotte would retain it if it’s in the top 12 in 2010, top 10 in 2011, top eight in 2012 and top three in 2013. Charlotte would have no protection for the pick in 2014
Looking to gain a 1st rounder in next years draft in order to get a big man in a big man deep draft next year. Not a bad move, we aren’t winning a championship next year. Mullens isnt going to contribute for a two years at least this way we hopefully get a big man in next years draft that contributes right away.
Wolvesfan,
Okay, I’m amazed! I want some of what you’re smoking to have called that, trade or no trade!
Flynn will also probably be dealt….we have a few weak areas other than PF and PG now…..
Here is the details on the bobcat pick.
The Nuggets acquired the future pick the day before last June’s draft by sending Charlotte their No. 20 selection. The Bobcats used it to take center Alexis Ajinca.
The pick the Nuggets received remains protected for the top 12 in 2010, the top 10 in 2011, the top eight in 2012 and the top three in 2013. It’s unprotected in 2014, which means conceivably Denver could get the top selection in the draft.
Sorry,for putting the
Bobcat pick details up a third time.
I am slow poster.
Love this site and have been reading for weeks, but have never posted until now.
This is fine. I said yesterday that Mullens would drop to 28. If he doesn’t we go Europe.
Its ok, someone will take Mullens soon
wow, mullens might actually fall to 28; 5 straight point guards in a row.
intrigued wolves fan - Glad you like the board… to be totally welcomed to The Blog, you need to ditch your current undistinguished screen name and replace it with something catchy like Foo, Swan Dizzle or Gendo.
Why are they picking guards?
take mullens at 28.
trading 18 seems to confirm they’re keeping rubio and flynn. given the fresh start and empty backcourt they needed to bring in 2 rookies. you dont trade 18 unless you’re planning on keeping both rubio and flynn.
i will lose my mind if we trade rubio.
I’m kinda of hoping for tony douglas
Euro at 28
Foo, no love for chrish that is a great screen name, lol
I still can’t believe we picked Jonny Flynn over Stephen Curry. I’m stunned. Maybe the Charlotte pick is the best asset to trade to Memphis along with Flynn for Thabeet.
I hope Patty Mills stays on the board until 28.
With such a need at center, it would be hard to pass on Mullens if he slips to No. 28.
That said, I think Mullens has the same frame of mind as JR Rider - psycho.
Henry Abbott: Ricky Rubio, not exactly schmoozing the people of the Twin Cities.
Q. Are you excited to go to Minnesota?A. I’m excited to come to the NBA.He was also asked about whether being picked by the ‘Wolves might inspire him to stay in Europe. He said:”I don’t know yet. I have to think about that … I’m going to talk to my agent about that and we’re going to see.”
are we all getting the sinking feeling that Rubio is going to the Knicks? I am a Minnesotan but I live in New York and want LeBron here so I guess I am conflicted. Man the wolves have no guts.
what a jerk rubio is, trade him
So far this maybe draft has been a waste for the wolves. They still have holes this draft is turning into a waste. way to pick another point guard and trade him to denver. wait didn’t we trade chamers last year. Another dissapointing draft for the wolves. Rubio will not stay in minnesota to small MARKET! for a international player
Mike B
I thought Curry didn’t do anything in the big dance? I think Flynn is a winner.
They moved up for Claver?
By the way if the Rubio for Nate Rob and Hill rumor is true, I will officially officially give up on the wolves.
That wqould stink if Rubio doesn’t come to Minny.
How about DeJuan Blair for the 28th pick?!
Rubio is committed here for 5 years, and if he’s as good as advertised, we’ll be able to deal him for a ton after three.
Sammyboy,
If the wolves do that I am done with them as well.
re: Blair
We won’t take another PF. We have three good ones.
Yeah, ChrisH, you’re one of the best guys on this board. I think you should change it…
How about Ho-Chris or something?
Does feel like Flynn was taken to move Rubio…Just not to the Knicks please, and their total lack of attractive assets.
I hope the wolves get Blair………
Might have been the other Mike B., the one who doesn’t have a . behind the B. I was never big on Curry. But after we traded Foye, I thought Curry would be a very nice replacement. Flynn…not so much. If we don’t keep Rubio, I’ll quit complaining about Flynn. But he’s only 5′11″. Is Nate Robinson is top-six pick?
Kings are having a nice draft
How bout acquiring Portland’s #1 pick, a Spanish player and Rudy Fernandez 6′6″ SG for Flynn…….
I am with you sammyboy, I will give up for good on the team if they do that…
Foo maybe I will go with C-note, lol
Sounds like Kahn is playing hard to get…
YahooSports NBA -MInny officials are thus far resisting the advances of the Knicks and the wishes of the player’s agent and insisting that Rubio will stay -3 minutes ago from web
C-Note - Much better. DO IT.
Rudy Fernandez was already traded today to Sactown.
ChrisH is now C-Note, ![]()
No Forge, that was Sergio Rodriguez, right?
Blair at 28, the Charlotte pick, and Flynn for Thabeet.
The rookie press conference should be very interesting tomorrow. Will Rubio show? The drama is just beginning.
Somebody good is going to drop, and we’re going to take Jerebko. Ugh.
Rubio looks like a wimp. I think I could take him on the bench press.
yeah the knicks really have nothing. Chandler is a decent defender but a bit of a space cadet. David Lee, we don’t need him, and Nate Robinson is nothing more than high energy off the bench and some streaky scoring.
Take Douglas at 28 for a sg
I hate the New York media and the bullying mentality.
Rudy Fernandez went to Sac town?
Dam, my last name starts with a C - that could have been my name!!
Still thinking………
lol
Oh yah my mistake. Good catch Phil.
I could see Tony Douglas turning into a Michael Redd type of surpise, good shooter shot 46% from fg and 38% from 3 last year
this is disgusting, why do i feel that the same old wolves?
beaubous might be a stud
problem with the NBA is it is really market driven. There is a lot of “momentum” forcing stars to the big markets. It is the worst of all pro sports
Uh-oh - 2/3 of my EuroStash Targets are off the board. Now that Claver and Casspi are off the board, here’s hoping that Jonas Jarebko is still there. Otherwise, I guess we could go to the next Euro down the list (Beaubois or Nando De Colo?). Otherwise, maybe Wayne Ellington.
Ellington is actually a pretty good fit… at such a low pick, it would be nice to get such a good outside shooter. He had a better 3-point FG% than Curry against much better competition last year.
I’m not saying Ellington is better than Curry at all. But 21 picks later, I think Ellington would be a nice pick-up.
I’m sad. I was hoping to fill two needs, we filled one.
Do you think the wolves war room is frantically reading the blog for ideas of what to do with 28… kahn yelling out refresh refresh refresh!
I can see it.
Mullens to OKC and Dallas get the French guy
I’m assuming that they trade the 28th to avoid the 1st round price, and then take a flyer on SF on the 2nd round picks?
i want a dang center who is worth a dam
though i do like the trade
Who cares what Ricky Rubio wants?
We own his rights so if he wants to play in the NBA it has to be with the Timberwolves. Worst-case he goes back to Spain for another year or two and we’ll have Flynn in the meantime.
As for a Knicks deal, they don’t have anything we want.
Chiaman they will probably take a foreigner who wont play this year. WHo knows whats going on though.
They need to try and get Rudy from the Blazers. Make Rubio stay then.
T-Jax, there was only maybe one this draft.
Is it too late to draft Evans and Rubio, lol
I am really struggling for a new name, my 9 year-old daughter says it is easy, how about Big Daddie??
Portland would make us overpay for rudy.
Another one of the Euro guys I like (Beaubois) is gone!
I like the idea of Toney Douglas. Great shooter/scorer and an excellent defender. I’d happily roll with him as our 6th-man… undersize 2-guard (poor-man’s/better defending Ben Gordan?) and capable PG (though not a natural PG).
OK - my current wish list for No. 28:
1. Jonas Jarebko
2. Toney Douglas
3. Wayne Ellington
4. Nando De Col
invent a time machine C-note and brainwash sacramento into holiday.
correct. he is 18. he doesn’t know anything. also money talks. now our starting SG next year is……..
I’ll take Rubio out to Thunder Island. When we get back he’ll be happy to be with the Wolves.
I know, i am just sick of the chumps they throw in there every year
I wanted Gibson or Douglas
Minneapolis has some of the best looking women in the US. He’ll be ok.
Intriqued Wolves Fan - Nah, Big Daddie is too cliche. Gotta roll with something none of us will understand like Foo, Gendo, Swan Dizzle or (now) C-Note.
Shoot, I liked Gibson.
Formerly Intriqued Wolves Fans
foo, what are the chances of a Flynn + future pick for thabeat
I’m actually okay with dealing Rubio, as long as we get superior value back. That of course excludes the Knicks, who have nothing anyone, even the Wolves, would ever want.
Flynn has a great all-around game, and his athleticism and toughness more than makes up for his height.
Are you picking on my 9 year-old? Ok, we are still thinking…
I’d be excited to see Rubio play. But it is completely unpredictable how he will play in the NBA. He is a kid. No one likes to pay $50 a game or more to watch the Wolves get spanked night after night. How long is Rubio going to want to stay here if he stinks? Can the Wolves negotiate a buy out clause in Rubio’s contract? To me this is a very impractical pick.
The best outside shooter on this team right now may be Rodney Carney, and he’s unrestricted. You can’t build a team around Big Al without shooters.
By default, Wayne Ellington would be our starting 2-guard next year. Actually, he could be one of the best steals in the draft if that happened and he started for us next year.
Does Minny take DeJuan Blair? He’s BY FAR BPA at this point.
this next pick should be a hoot
Is it official we traded Ty Lawson?
Is that Uncle Joey in our draft room?
I say pick Blair!
Douglas or Ellington would be ok with me
Don’t we already have Blair? His name is Craig Smith
ellington, gotta be. best pick of the draft for us.
It will be Air-Blair I bet.
“these guys are going to love my outlets”
kevin love is an electrician now? we dont need anymore electricians here!
I wanted Gibson until we traded for a squad of bigs. Now I want some perimeter shooting. Budinger? I worry he’s too soft. He is a nice switch from Brewer, all offense, little D. Good length and athleticism, though. No foreigners if we are already swapping our 18 and maybe 5 or 6.
I like Beaubois a lot as well. It might be a good idea if we can get Rudy Fernandez without over paying.
Obviously Curry > Ellington. But Ellington shot 5% better from 3-point range last year against much better competition.
He would literally be our starting SG next year… 6th-man at worst. We don’t have anybody at SG. And Flynn is probably our best perimeter shooter right now.
Wayne Ellington - your starting SG
Very nice pick
Nice call Foo, lets see if he starts
Would have preferred size, would have loved D. But we did need a 2 and a shooter.
hooray. i like ellington
Says Bilas: great finisher, great shooter, under-rated athlete, needs to work on his defense.
Gibson makes Noah irrelevant in Chicago, I think.
My 10 year-old daugher now says Hoop Daddie (I am a high school boys basketball coach (and have 4 daughters).
And she wants to know if that works.
Formerly Intrigued Wolves fan and Big Daddie and waiting on approval of hoop dawg
Finally a shooter!!!
Wayne Ellington is the best shooter on this team already. Hopefully he’ll be OK on defense.
cant complain about that pick
i don’t understand why denver makes that trade to us.
Just need to get Meeks in the 2nd round and keep all those picks. Kahn has done brilliantly
the team is pretty much set at guard now if you think about it. scrappy perimeter defense, great court vision and passing with respectable shooting and slashing to the hole.
now i am hopting etan thomas works out. he is pretty solid when healthy. id still like to see a trade of some sort to get another shooter or big man in here and ship out guys like cardinal, madsen, smith, etc for the right price.
I would love to see a defensive coach come in and make this team a top 15 FG% against squad. Great defense leads to consistent wins, whether you shoot well or not.
and DeColo
I can live with W. Ellington at SG for next year, but I’m worried about defense at the 2 & 3 being weak in addition to Big Al and K Love being poor in that regard. Is Kahn going to choose Sam Mitchell to coach and hope that He’ll drill that into the team?
Intrigued Wolves Fan/Big Daddie/Hoop Daddie - your persistence is winning over a lot of souls on this board.
But Hoop Daddie is still too logical. Looking for something a bit more nonsensical.
Denver needed a back up to Billups besides Carter.
And great pick by my other team, the Lakers, but unfortunately they traded the pick for Cash to be able to sign Ariza and Odom
I still think they should have bundled picks/players and traded for the #2 pick and grabbed Thabeet. Then they could have still gotten Rubio at 5.
I want shaq, lets get it done david!
Cleveland needs to go for it next year. Blair is a rotational player now… he’s the pick for The Cavs.
Yeah I get they needed a guard just think they gave up too much. I like Lawson but i’m guessing we’ll be getting something like a top 12 pick in 2 years for that pick.
I thin Brewer could guard the other teams best 2 or 3 and we could hid Ellington that way, at least is 6′5 and can shoot.
We will be ok now with
Rubio, Flynn, Ellington, Brewer and Gomes playing the 1, 2, and 3 next year. We can get a center next year and hope Brewer develops or draft a SF and C next year
If he says hoop daddie backwards, that would be cool:
eiddad pooh
Now there’s your name!
Is the next T-Wolves coach in the building tonight? Van Gundy, Mark Jackson and Rick Pitino are all on hand in NYC.
Ellington will be a great role player for the wolves
Predictions for the Wolves record next year?
First half:
9-32
Second half:
14-27
It’s a building year but I’m patient.
C-Note - great take. You can always switch Ellington to mark the opponent’s weakest perimeter player.
Rubio not wanting to play here could remind of Steve Francis and they were forced to trade him, I don’t want that to happen to us
or a whiney Eli Manning not wanting to play in SD
Foo would like to see Van Gundy but I’m guessing he’ll pass. Might be a hard sell to a new coach given two new point guards.
If Rubio doesn’t play for us NEXT YEAR, I am done….YET AGAIN! Drawn in from all of the excitement and let down once again….I hope it doesn’t happen, but I hope Shaka (Kahn) comes through!
eiddad pooh - it is. Thanks for the help.
Thanks, now I can get back to following the draft.
first half: 13-28
second half 9-32
need more beef up front
Wolves line-up next year:
G Rubio
G Flynn
SF Brewer
PF Love
C Jefferson
6: Ellington
7: Gomes
8: C. Smith
It’s intriguing at least…
Thanks Foo
The other day in an interview I was watching him and he said he was so excited to play here THIS YEAR, now as someone else posted:
Henry Abbott: Ricky Rubio, not exactly schmoozing the people of the Twin Cities.
Q. Are you excited to go to Minnesota?A. I’m excited to come to the NBA.He was also asked about whether being picked by the ‘Wolves might inspire him to stay in Europe. He said:”I don’t know yet. I have to think about that … I’m going to talk to my agent about that and we’re going to see.”
look who was their last value player, name look familiar?@!!?
Whoops, forgot Telfair at 6, move the rest of the bench down one.
Peterson, hen researching the pick we obtained from Denver. The article I read from last year said the reason the Nuggets traded their pick last year was because Ty Lawson pulled his name from last year’s draft.
Interesting that they get him a year later.
gotta love when ESPN says how Mario Chambers is the best pick of 2008 second round
Rubio’s english good enough to answer a question like that adequately?
Uggh… i hate how Minnesota is billed to be like siberia so that all the people that don’t grow up here think it’s like a desolate wasteland.
shoulda kept lawson and got all the tarheels we could.
we’d be national champs, i think.
wouldn’t we?
Here is a quote from Jonny Flynn on Espn Live Chat.
He wants to be in Minnesota, got to like that attitude.
Jonny Flynn
Can’t wait to get to Minnesota. Wathc out for us this year. The front office is making a lot of moves to make us a winning team. I’m looking forward to getting out there and helping the team.
Fair enough reverse daddie. what are the restrictions again for the pick?
I don’t mind the Wolves keeping both point guards this year(assuming Rubio will come here to play of course).
The Wolves may be able to use one of them to move up and take the wing or big man they want next year.
If Rubio will not come here, who do you guys think would be a good trade partner to get a good big man or wing this year?
If NY could get another team involved then maybe trade Rubio but they have no one we want that is worth Rubio and now they took Hill who would NOT fit with Love and Jefferson
So are there any rumors out there about Rubio or Flynn? Last year the wolves drafted Mayo and Chalmers. I saw them make the trade of Chalmers. A few hours later I went to bed and woke up to the Mayo/Love trade. I would rather not wake up and see that Rubio got traded. Anyone have any info?
I like Flynn. Dude has a winning attitude, not afraid to go inside, and is strong as hell. Plays solid D.
Keep Flynn, trade Rubio
ellington is my favorite pick so far. Like the trade. harden and evans going back to back couldn’t have worked out worse for us. Slowly warming up to the possibilities of Rubio and Flynn though. Wanted one or the other, got both…oh well.
The pick the Nuggets received remains protected for the top 12 in 2010, the top 10 in 2011, the top eight in 2012 and the top three in 2013. It’s unprotected in 2014, which means conceivably Denver could get the top selection in the draft
Whose heart stopped with that trade announcement?
You hear the girl yelling whyyyyy? when the milicic/richardson trade was announced… awesome.
Rubio´s dad has said Ricky Rubio stays 1 or maybe 2 years more in Europe
Flynn won’t go anywhere. I hope they don’t trade Rubio, give him some time to sleep on it and see what happens. Right now he is in NY with everybody yapping in his ear. I find it interesting that neither Rubio nor Flynn mentioned each other during their interviews.
I really like having Flynn on the team, I just wish it was under different circumstances. For instance, he’d fit great with Thabeet or Harden/Evans. Flynn has a great attitude, is high character, plays D, and manages a game well.
my head jerked over.
I’m hard pressed to think of what it would take for the Timberpups to trade a potential Steve Nash away without at least seeing what he can do in the NBA. This of course is negated if he refuses to play in Minnesota.
so we’ll have like the 5th pick in 2013. sweet.
Agreed Hardin and Evans going back to back screwed us. Kahn has guts!! I think that we need a risk taker willing to think outside the box.
I still like him.
Remember that there is still free agency. IDK who is out there? Any quality 2s or 3s? God I hope Rubio plays here!!! If not, we better get one helluva trade! I do like that Flynn has that positive attitude, but I pray that he can play? I just am not sold on him like others are. I wish we woulda traded 6+ to go to 3, take Harden, then Rubio at 5. Does anyone recall when I said that I was afraid we were going to do something dumb like we always do?! Im happy about Rubio (if he stays and plays), but not big on Flynn. I do like Ellington as well! Still praying for a trade, like for AK47 or something.
still think we shoulda kept Foye. Ridiculous move.
Keep Both. I heard ricky take a call from minny and he said he loves to play with another point and acually prefers it. Everything makes sense.
GREAT JOB DAVID. If it wasnt for him moving up we would of never been able to grab Rubio! Flynn is a Leader! I like his attitude already. And like Elllington too. Kahn must be working on a big man to pass up Mullens. Only they know what their doing but I am very happy. Now please retain Carney. BTW i am still in shock we got Rubio!!!! I”M so happy!
Rubio wants to play in The NBA… he’ll come. And if he doesn’t, then we’ll keep our thumb on him and make him suffer.
Good choices. If Rubio doesn’t play, they still have his rights to trade whenever he does decide to play. If he gets better with age, maybe wolves can trade for LeBron. probably not. but you get the idea.
We can say whatever we want about the double PG attack, but I have to say that, when I stop and think about it, most of what Kahn’s saying and doing makes sense. And, so, I can’t see him trading Rubio right now, without seeing what he can do. Can it be (I hope it is) that we’re all just gunshy after getting burned time and again after the McHale years? Last year, they even let us go all through the draft before triggering the trade. Let’s hope Kahn’s good sense holds up… Rubio is just a crazy passer, and I’d love to see him play!
Rubio’s agent is trying hard to get him outta of MN so maybe Rubio doesn’t really care but his agent is pulling the strings
Some people don’t like Minny until they live here. Then they never want to leave. I’m not overly worried about Rubio’s long term desire to stay.
C-Note: Link??
Maybe Tarrence Williams would have looked good at SG for us
I think that IF Ricky plays, him and Flynn might make a great combination whether they back eachother up or play 1 and 2
I think it was on Yahoo somewhere
Here is a good website with this summer’s free agent class.
we should package both 2nd rounders to move up and get Budinger
Oops, forgot link.
i almost just crapped my pants… i thought they had announced that before when i heard minnesota timberwolves… my heart skipped a beat.
I think with so many good pgs I hope we took the right 2 because we could have gotta a good one later(Lawson/Maynor)
DO NOT bend to Ricky Rubio’s demands. The kid is 18 years old, he can’t be allowed to push around an NBA franchise. He doesn’t want to come to Minnesota? Good, let him stay in Europe.
We’ve got Flynn and Ellington, don’t necessarily NEED him (although, if he comes around and is willing to play here, it’d be SUCH an exciting backcourt experiment to see him and Flynn play together.)
TrueHoopRT @hoopshype: From Rubio’s father: “Right now, Ricky is likely staying in Europe one or two years.”28 minutes ago from web
We are probably going to go for Danny Green and make it 3 tar heels in a row, which follows the trend of 3 point guards in a row.
With that said would love Budinger.
Budinger or Meeks, now that I think about it Meeks would be better
Who ever stated “Flynn and Rubio can play some defense) has not watched them play. Flynn is lightning quick, but reminds me of Marcus Banks. Rubio? He can pass … that’s pretty much it.
I sure hope he plays next year…did you hear the roar at the draft party? Minnesota needs him!
Budinger and Green fall to Wolves would be a dream scenario…
Im a big fan of the board, vikings board too but i gotta say this Jerry Zgoda guy isn’t very good, where’s he been all night with any information at all? Vikings beat guys much much better.
Meeks could be a great spark off the bench, think Nate Robinson without the tude
Not much defense from Budinger, but he’s long, stupid athletic and has great shooting range…
That said, there are too many good values still on the board. I say we just stand pat and pick whoever falls to us.
Our two picks are 7 from now and 9 from now… Nine picks away and there are still 8 players on the board who I still like a lot:
1. Jarebko
2. Budinger
3. De Colo
4. Marcus Thornton
5. Danny Green (GREAT D!)
6. Nick Calathes
7. Derrick Brown
8. Patrick Mills
Shucks… Jarebko is gone. I really liked that guy.
Eight picks away from our last pick… only 7 players I still like.
Foo how about Meeks?
Not much interest in Jodie Meeks from me. I hope he’s gone before we pick.
Anyone have any viable theories on why we didn’t pic Curry?
My hopes, Budinger, Meeks, Green, Mills and if we get mills, try to trade Brown or Telfair or cut Brown
Kahn is a lawyer and a smart guy. By taking Flynn, the Rubio’s have no leverage. “Go ahead and stay in Europe, we have another point guard.”
Then if Rubio blows up in Europe, his value goes sky high. Which is what Kahn has said all long, maximize value.
He has a plan.
all you complainers just don’t get it. Finally the wolves have done the smartest thing they could…they drafted the 2 best players available. Right now the team needs talent. We’ll worry about fitting the pieces together later.
My guys are falling off the board: Derrick Brown is gone.
I liked his value and like his game, but he’s basically an undersized, athletic PF, so we didn’t need him anyway.
Seven picks from our last pick… only 6 players I still like:
1. Jarebko - to Detroit
2. Budinger
3. De Colo
4. Marcus Thornton
5. Danny Green (GREAT D!)
6. Nick Calathes
7. Derrick Brown - to Charlotte
8. Patrick Mills
Maybe Jerry is using AOL tonight
I just want Ricky to be here next year…that is my only concern. Love Flynn, love Ricky, glad foye is gone, still waiting for more moves though
Jerry - do you have any “ins” with anyone in the War Room? Lots of questions here and no answers - will someone with the Wolves be making any statements or giving any interviews tonight?
Curry is a worthless defender. Flynn is a warrior. He’s tough, athletic, can shoot and defend.
I will use the analogy used in the movie Major League. When Ricky Vaughn says “I thought you had to do something good to be famous”, and Jake Taylor tells him “not if you do it colorfully” is what I see here. The Wolves if Rubio comes over next year or the year after, may still suck, may lose even more games. But they will at least be entertaining to watch with these two guys while losing. Losing is one thing, but losing colorfully at least people can watch that.
Yes dont make me go to the PioneerPress Jerry.
dam, there goes meeks
YES! Meeks off the board… I don’t like him.
Six picks from our last pick… and 6 players I still like:
1. Jarebko - to Detroit
2. Budinger
3. De Colo
4. Marcus Thornton
5. Danny Green (GREAT D!)
6. Nick Calathes
7. Derrick Brown - to Charlotte
8. Patrick Mills
Take who falls to you, Timberwolves!
I agree now Foo, Budinger is who I want next then Mills
Foo, how mad will you be…when we trade the picks for cash!
I would rather keep Flynn and move Rubio.
Budinger is my pick. But some other good options there as well.
Budinger then Danny Green would be my choices
At least we know that Flynn wants to be here
Has anyone checked if Jerry is twittering or maybe it’s called tweeting. Not really sure.
Who is your top 5 for next years draft???
been checking pooh and nothing all night.
If rubio is going to stay over there, then we will have room for Flynn, Ellington and 1 of the 2 2nd rounders
I hope Nando De Colo is there… we need at least one EuroStash out of this draft.
I am pulling for Danny Green. He’s a GREAT defender and well-rounded offensively. He’ll have a 10-year career as a fringe-starter/rotational reserve.
Perimeter defense is a bigger need for us than Budinger’s shooting and defensive indifference.
I think Jerrys drunk somewhere….
From the Espn insider buzz
Chris Sheridan: Receiving some conflicting info on how hard the New York Knicks did or did not go in their efforts to acquire the No. 5 pick from Minnesota to draft Ricky Rubio.
One source insisted New York discussed sending Wilson Chandler and the No. 8 pick to Minny, while another source said the discussions never went that far. This much is clear: Both Rubio and Jonny Flynn are likely flummoxed by the Wolves taking them back-to-back at 5 and 6, and no one in the Garden expects the Wolves to end up keeping both of them.
Rubio’s comments made him sound fairly disappointed, but don’t expect the same type of prolonged public pouting out of Rubio that Yi Jianlian gave to the Milwaukee Bucks when they drafted him against his wishes two years ago.
Rubio does have a bit of leverage if he wants out of ‘Sota: He can return to Spain for another season and save himself several million dollars by not having to pay his $6 million buyout (Rubio’s Spanish club has reportedly offered to substantially reduce the buyout cost if Rubio returns for one more season), or he could stay in Spain for two more seasons, after which his buyout expires.
One source said the Knicks’ best chance at acquiring Rubio’s rights from Minnesota would be to get him through a sign-and-trade for one of their two restricted free agents, David Lee and Nate Robinson.
BUDINGER! If he falls to us along with green, imma very happy man.
Danny Green was the dancin fool before games correct? I’d might get tickets just to see that….that is hilarious!
anyone getting jerry’s tweets?
Vitale says we will regret taking Flynn over Curry
Dicky V…ripping the Wolves….the guy is overrated anyhow
Marcus Thornton off my wish-list… but that’s cool. He’s too similar to Wayne Ellington anyway.
Here’s my updated Big Board:
Seven picks from our last pick… only 6 players I still like:
1. Jarebko - to Detroit
2. Budinger
3. De Colo
4. Marcus Thornton - Miami
5. Danny Green (GREAT D!)
6. Nick Calathes
7. Derrick Brown - to Charlotte
8. Patrick Mills
I’m crossing my fingers for Danny Green and one guy to stash in Europe - either Nando De Colo or Nick Calathes.
Vitale is absolutely right on all those calls.
Glad to hear everyone else is thionking the same thing about Zgoda, it seems like he hates us.
screw you dickie v.
DAMMIT.
Bye Budinger, now Green or Mills
I’m glad we didn’t get Buddinger.
Good - Budinger off the board. One less revolving-door defender on our perimeter.
Updated Big Board:
1. Jarebko - to Detroit
2. Budinger - to Detroit
3. De Colo
4. Marcus Thornton - Miami
5. Danny Green (GREAT D!)
6. Nick Calathes
7. Derrick Brown - to Charlotte
8. Patrick Mills
Maybe Jerry is going to break big, big trade news!
I guess i’m ok with that
YES! Calathes… Eurostash No. 1.
He’s pretty good.
chris h, ricky rubio is from spain, he has no idea were minnesota is. give him a break.
ANOTHER PG?!
Greek style, yeah.
Solid pick.
Better get Danny Green with next pick.
Another good pick. He is already in Europe for two years…
I trust FOO - don’t ask me why. I say YES!!!
I like the Calethes pick too. Stash him.
Green probably now that we took enough guards and maybe Green could be behind Brewer and Gomes
and Green is gone.
Dam, people keep going 1 pick ahead of me tonight, Evans. Holiday and Green ![]()
Darn.
Cavs took Green. How about Goran Suton? Bwahahaahahahahhahah!
How did LaBron know that’s who I wanted?
heytvelt could be interesting
Heytvelt or another Euro guy, probably…
Ben woodside—stay with the guards shaka-kahn!
Damn… I wanted Danny Green.
Updated Big Board:
1. Jarebko - to Detroit
2. Budinger - to Detroit
3. De Colo
4. Marcus Thornton - to Miami
5. Danny Green (GREAT D!) - to Cleveland
6. Nick Calathes - to MINNY!
7. Derrick Brown - to Charlotte
8. Patrick Mills
It’s gotta be Nando De Colo - they really liked him when they brought him in here… otherwise it will be some big Euro-Stiff like Vyachelav Kravtsov.
We need a big at least now for a summer team or Love is playing C all game, lol
how many PG do they need, it just keeps looking like we doen a trade
McClinton, Harris, Christmas? I dunno anymore.
Either Mills or DeColo might as well be another point guard.
Joe Ingles anyone?
Dionte Christmas!
oops I meant to ask what are peoples feelings about Dionte Christmas?
# kevin_love great passer….good pick on calathes less than 10 seconds ago from web
#
Adrian Wojnarowski
YahooSportsNBA Detroit is trading the rights to Chase Budinger to the Houston Rockets for a future 2nd round pick and cash, a league exec. tells Y! Sports.less than a minute ago from web
Josh Heytvelt is probably the best big left.
ok he gona b over seas for a bit
What grade will we get from the “experts”?
I say “C” at BEST!
Still waiting for the big splash.
The euro trash is getting traded to dallas..
Nick Calathes’ strengths and weaknesses according to ESPN:
Positives:
*Versatile combo guard — can play three positions
*Excellent floor vision and ballhandling
*Excellent shooter with NBA 3-point range
*Can put the ball on the floor
*Good finisher around the basket
*Great basketball IQ
*Good help defender
Negatives:
*Needs to add a lot of muscle to his frame
*OK athlete, but not particularly explosive or quick
*Struggles in man-to-man defense against quick guards
Ricky’s teammate?
looks like we traded him to dallas, man i hate that city
I like the Dutch. Good job once again David Kahn.

Spain’s Rubio girds for cold nights as Minnesota’s pick

By Lewis Krauskopf
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Flashy Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio, selected fifth overall in Thursday’s NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, said he was thrilled to play in the NBA even though he faces chilly winter nights in the Midwestern state.
“It’s cold there,” Rubio told reporters moments after his name was called at the draft. “Yeah, my mom hates cold places.”
Minnesota is a less cosmopolitan location than other places seen as possible destinations for the dazzling playmaker, such as New York, but Rubio said marketing was not an issue for him.
“I’m not thinking about the marketing right now,” Rubio said. “I’m thinking about to play minutes. That’s my love. I want to play basketball, and if they give me minutes, I’m going to come.”
Asked if he was excited to play for Minnesota, the 18-year-old said: “I’m excited to come to the NBA.”
Rubio, whose trickery and slick ball-handling, as well as his mussed brown hair, have led to comparisons with former American sensation Pete Maravich, was projected by some experts as the second-best prospect in this year’s draft.
But unlike his fellow prospects, Rubio’s draft status may have been complicated by his 4.75 million euro ($6.6 million) buyout he must pay in order to be set free by his current team, Spain’s DKV Joventut.
“Now I know where I’m going to go, so I have to talk with the team, what exactly they want about me, and if necessary, I’m going to pay the buyout,” Rubio said. “We are closer to an agreement with the team, so we are going to see.”
The 6-foot-4 Rubio, who turned professional at age 14, has drawn raves for his slick passing and basketball smarts, though critics question his shooting ability.
Rubio said he was a player “who loves to pass and run and who loves to do defense, too.”
A turning point for Rubio came during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where as a member of the Spanish national team that won silver he drew notice when he held his own in competing in the championship game against U.S. point guard stars Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Jason Kidd.
“It’s helped me a lot because I played against the best players in the NBA, so that means that I can play here,” Rubio said.
“I realized in the Olympic Games that I’m feeling good in the game, so that moment, I realize that I can play here, and that helps me a lot.”
After Rubio’s selection, Minnesota picked another point guard, Jonny Flynn from Syracuse.
“That’s a big surprise for me they took another point guard,” Rubio said. “But we are going to see what they want.
For his part, Flynn said of Rubio: “I can’t wait to go play with him.”
“It’s good to have two facilitators that can make plays on the court,” he added. “I think we can boost each other’s level of play.”

henk norel????
Yep, T. You’ve got a lot more going for you with Henk, Hardware Henk!
Henk Norel from Espn
Positives:
Long, athletic big man
Excellent motor
Runs the floor well and attacks the glass
Great hustle player
Some good moves around the basket
Solid midrange shooter
Negatives:
Needs to add lots of strength
Gets pushed around in the paint
Limited production for a 21 year old
Struggles as a defender
Summary: Apr 20 Update: While Norel has some things you love about him as a player, he has a long ways to go before he’s a NBA prospect.
He needs to add strength and have a few productive seasons in Europe first. The reports about him being a first-round pick in December look pretty exaggerated right now. However, with a few more years of seasoning, he could be a legit NBA prospect. The team that drafts him will just have to be patient.
From Chad Ford: Wow! The Timberwolves have selected their fourth point guard of the night. Yes, they sent Ty Lawson to Denver, and Calathes is heading to Greece, but all in all, this is still a surprise. I guess David Kahn likes point guards. Calathes is a real steal here, a terrific passer with a great feel for the game. John Hollinger’s Draft Rater loved him. I think his deal with Greece created some ambiguity and caused his stock to slip.
WOW!! Dick Vitale was just on ESPN and stated the following: ‘MN has Rubio & Flynn, you can’t win with that backcourt. That combination is going to get a head coach fired!’
WOW!! Strong words and a very strong indictment against the Twolves selections! BTW…Vitale praised the Lawson selection…praised Denver for making the trade. Uh oh!
I think I’m out for the night, I might check back right before bed and I will probably try to stay up in case a big trade happened like last year right before I went to sleep, lol
Looks like Norel is a guy that’s going to play in Europe for another couple of years before he comes to Minnesota.
(i think rubio will find out they play harder in the nba than they do in the olympics)
lol…now we play the waiting game to see what gifts await us in tomorrow’s paper involving trades
The key mistake in that Reuters article is “Minnesota”. Rubio doesn’t have to live in less than cosmopolitan Minnesota.
Rubio will get to live in cosmopolitan Minneapolis! The best kept secret in the U.S.
By the way, ESPN radio guys are saying the Wolves had the best draft.
YahooSportsNBA Minnesota is expected to trade the rights of Florida’s Pat Calathes to Dallas for future considerations, a league executive said.8 minutes ago from web
Are you kidding Skinny? These guys dream of winning gold medals for their countries. Ask Lebron, ask KG, ask any of them if they slacked in the Olympics. . .
Two 2nd-rounders, two Eurostashes. I’m good with that.
Thats why his name is DICK! Screw that ol’ hatin buzzard. curry didn’t want to play in Minny. Did u see his face when he got picked by Golden state…..He was pissed! He would of cried alot. Flynn is excited for Minny and that says alot.
Excuse me, is someone trying to say they are afraid of what Vitale had to say? Seriously?
That’s the move I’m been waiting for!
Draft grade from me: C-
Some promise, but PG, PG, PG?
Vitale doesn’t even know the NCAA let alone the NBA. . . Yawn!
MATTY:
What color IS the sky in your world? ? ?
Curry to the Suns???
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/nba/06/25/draft.day.blog/index.html?eref=sihpT1
More Ford: Norel is the first player drafted that I didn’t have in my top 60. He’s an energy guy who isn’t especially skilled. I wasn’t wowed by him at the Reebok Eurocamp. But I defer to Pete Philo, the Wolves’ excellent international scout — he runs the camp and knows his stuff.
I guess the Olympics doesn’t matter to anyone–they sky must be Chartreuse in my world. . .
Kahn is about to be interviewed on ESPN
David Kahn about to be interviewed in ESPN’s TV draft show.
Lets go out and get Josh Smith in free agency
KAHN ON ESPN AFTER THE COMMERCIAL…
“Lucy ju got some splaning to do”…
I’m not anti-Rubio, but he will never wear a Wolves uniform.
Someone will pony up a deal we cannot pass up. NYK will have to find a third party if they want him.
Ellington was a nice pick as was the Lawson trade to Denver.
With all our picks complete, Kahn gets an Incomplete only because we have to wait to see how the Rubio situation plays out.
Kahn will be on ESPN after the break. I’m curious to hear what he has to say.
C-Note Espn will be interviewing Kahn shortly. Probably won’t say anything, but there is always a chance.
Another famous Ricky!
good one, jay wolf. LMAO!
Well, we couldn’t get evans or harden so this draft bombed
flynn seems ok, but took him too high
and we got the weepy spanish boy…
downer
Was it Chaka Khan that came up with this draft strategy?
Anyhoo, how about them Gopher pups?
I’ve been tryin all night, thanx skinny.
Not a bad draft, but I would have loved to get Young and Ellington at the bottom half of the draft. Having Flynn and Rubio is not bad. I think Flynn is going to be a great player. It is true however that both of these players need to be the primary ball handler to be effective though. My guess is Rubio gets pissed and goes back to Spain and Flynn becomes the leader of this team along with Jefferson. Rubio raises his stock and we trade him around draft time next year. It is just hard to stomach your #5 overall draft pick going directly overseas to play. I don’t think anyone drafted that high has ever gone directly overseas. Would have been beautiful to come out of this draft with Rubio or Flynn, Harden, Mullins, Ellington and Young.
Love
Brewer
Jefferson
Harden
Rubio/Flynn
Ellington
Young
Telfair
Gomes/Smith
Mullins
That would be a talented team with a lot of room to grow. At least 3-4 of those guys would have to develop into good players. Then you add a solid veteran or two in the next couple years and they are contenders in the West by the 2011-2012.
I really hope we get some indication of how this thing is going to play out at some time tonight.
After about a month of waiting and waiting to find out who we were going to end up with, it’s going to be really annoying to go to bed tonight still wondering…
10:38 p.m.: As one of the 5,000 point guards Minnesota selected this evening, Jonny Flynn sounds like someone who’ll be sticking around with the Timberwolves: “Going to Minnesota is a great fit for me,” said Flynn. “You’ve got Kevin Love and Al Jefferson, two big men that can make my life easier,” Flynn said. “I get them the ball in situations where they can score and they make me a better player.” As for the snow, Flynn won’t be bothered a bit. He played his college ball at Syracuse and calls Niagara Falls, N.Y. home. — Richard Deitsch SI writer…
Flynn goes sixth and Patrick Mills goes at 55? Both can play but Portland just got a great value pick. Roy and Mills. Nice.
Find a decent coach and I might start buying into this Kahn draft.
Where did Abdul Shamala get drafted?
Go pups!
Dick Vitale could win with these guys.
There I said it.
A little birdie told me that Dan Monson may be interested.
Go pups!
Likeable.
A dog started barking at me today as I walked by. It made more sense than anything Dick Vitale ever says.
Mark Jackson….kahn set it up…great rip on Vitale, that was funny.
Nice one Iron
Did Brad Childress go back in time and occupy Kahn’s body for that interview? Creepy..
I bet money on it…. MARK JACKSON! I heard him too….
Ghengis Kahn gave a pretty good interview. I didn’t believe a word!
Kahn reminds me of Liza Minelli’s ex-husband
Go pups!
Funny, funny dig on Dick Vitale, Mr. Kahn.
So, the question now is Rubio’s buyout. His dad is already floating the idea of him staying in Spain another year, which of course leaves the door open for all sorts of trade speculation.
So get on it Jerry. Does he play for us this year? Next year? Does he get traded? I can’t imagine Kahn wants to deal him, but I also don’t imagine Minnesota is Rubio’s first pick for a destination.
Minnesota…the land of 10,000 PG’s…
Every outlet is saying wolves with number one draft, nice to hear good things for once. Get a good coach and TRY and sign Ben Gordon and we might have something here. Remember we also have tons of expiring contracts on board.
Dick Vital might actually be dead, or at least full of machine parts.
Well - is that it? Time to go back to Access Vikings and check out the daily Favre rumors again?
Looks like we’ll have to wait with the rest of the league and see if Kahn is bluffing or if he really is going to try to play these two together. I wonder if he just made a lot of coaching candidates lose interest in the job, though.
It’s disappointing we could not get Harden or Evans. But Rubio can probably get enough endorsements to pay the buyout (maybe even from T-Wolves sponsors), and play for us next year. It was smart to get another pick for next year so that we have a good package of picks potentially with Jonny Flynn to grab a veteran shooting guard.
Considering Maynor went 20th, I think it’s a waste to pick Flynn that high, but what do I know? We could have picked up the top shooter together (Curry), a good post defender (Hill), or a couple of upside guards (DeRozan or Holiday). I think Flynn could be the most idiotic pick from the Timberwolves since Rashad McCants. It’s not that he is a bad player. It’s just that his comparable value was available at 18. And we already picked Rubio.
Good news is that two weeks into the season, tickets on the street should be going for about 20-35% face value.
No way does Kahn plan to keep both Flynn and Rubio.
Go Kahn! He’s talking up Rubio/Flynn right now. And he’s right!
Good point M. Bibby. It is all about relative value
Go pups!
We should try to sign Dionte Christmas Josh Heytvelt and Ben Woodside for our summer team and who knows. Christmas is 6′6 and could play SG where we really only have Ellington right now and Heytvelt could at least give size to the summer team
And he cites the modern NBA rules on the perimeter. He’s right.
Kahn is talking up these guys like no tomorrow. If he is going to trade one of them they arent going to be cheap.
That’s right Matty. This is going to revolutionalize the NBA like the wildcat in the NFL
Go pups!
Right, Forge. Yes we Kahn! Yes we Kahn!
(jeff i am)
Between the lines i heard “love Rubio” “Flynn going to make another team very happy”
for us that dont have cable, what was kahns dig on dick
We’ve been kahned!
“Minnesota…the land of 10,000 PG’s…”
Thanks. I just spit on my keyboard.
It could be worse. We could have hired Scott Layden
Go pups!
I agree JayWolf. But at the same time, I wouldn’t be surprised if we keep them both and see how it goes.
That Wayne Ellington pick was really virtuoso foresight by Kahn. Not only does he mesh perfectly with Rubio’s style, but he gives us a legit shooting guard so we’re not stuck with Rubio and Flynn in the backcourt by default.
Last thoughts before calling it a night;
Rubio and Flynn in the backcourt, wether platooned with Ellington and Carney or not, really increase athleticism and speed in the open court. This of course requires frontcourt offensive rebounding and defense to play fullcourt BBall. We’re several trades and several drafts away from having that kind of team. Fun to watch until we get there, but it will take time. Great fun to watch this draft and blog with you folks, looking forward to next draft already!
Nice one Skinny “yes we Kahn” LMAO. Obama would have been proud, if we hadn’t traded Lawson.
Side splitting humor from Razz and Skinny. GCF (good clean fun)!!
Go pups!
Have a good night, unless jerry posts again I am following Chiaman… not literally following him though
Kahn was talking about the next coach mentioning and ex-coach on the espn panel and he felicitously said Vitale after the big Dick just ripped the Wolves. Pretty funny
Jerry reported on Twitter the Wolves traded Calathes for “considerations”. I thought he would have been worth stashing and making a decision on him in a year or two.
thanks forge
NateDawg: I agree.
P.S. Love the new monicker!
Go pups!
PLEASE RUBIO JUST COME AND PLAY ME BOY!!!!!!
Man just a crazy night, I was hoping to be more excited but who knows what may happen overnight.
Khan got his payback on Vitale ripping the picks saying that Stu Scott is working with a great NBA head coach tonight “Well Stu you are working tonight with a great ex NBA coach, and of course I am speaking of Vitale”
Hilarious take that Dickie V.
Flynn is going to be a ’scoring’ guard when he’s got NBA 2’s in his face?
First time I felt like kahn is lying to me
better get used to it
Oh, CLH! That was good! Jeff Van Gundy sitting on screen all night. Then Vitale trashes the T’Wolves. Perfect. Jackson ask Kahn who he’s looking at for coach and he says a very good one is one of the commentators (or something). I thought he meant Van Gundy because he’s a midget like our draft picks are, but then he worked in Vitale’s name. Very shrewd!(i might have some names wrong but you get the idea)
watching the replay
i’ll give props to rubio for trying so hard to smile when evans got picked…he looked like he was going to upchuck
Dozier.
Mr. Irrelevant.
GO WOLVES…(in 2012)!
good dick had it comen for awhile
Those “considerations” from Dallas better be significant… Calathes is good and was 1st-round talent. His contract in Greece pushed him to the 2nd-round, but he’s a 1st-round guy… so I hope we got something significant for him. Maybe there’s a trade in the offing with Dallas.
Jason Kidd is a free-agent after next season and The Mav-Wrecks have nobody else waiting in the wings at PG.
Does anybody see any trades that would make sense with Dallas?
Josh Howard? I know…. (sits in corner..)
Dick needs an oil change, altough i wish we had picked Curry.
not to be sexist, but who is the chick in the wolves draft room?
good to see, just unusual, isn’t it?
Foo: Mark Cuban for Glen Taylor?
Go pups!
Right Foo! We lucked out and had a monster draft! Anybody wanting something from the T-Wolves better be ready to pay through the nose! ! !
That’s my story…….etc.etc.etc.
Wolves and Vikes done for the year…ahhhh. Now what twins!?
Flynn and an expiring contract to houston for McGrady? Unlikely, but could make a hell of a sideshow!
More i c and think about it, we are going to wake up to a Rubio trade.
Not cause Kahn wants too but he isn’t comming here.
I’d be OK with taking McGrady if Houston wants to dump him, as it seems they do. But they’d have to cough up some serious other assets for us to agree to take on McGrady.
Is Jerry hiking the Appalachian Trail?
Alan Hahn from Newsday is still Tweeting like a maniac and now he’s going on WFAN in 12 min…he’s taking this seriously
I actually don’t think Rubio will be traded, after all the effort Kahn went to to try and move up to #2 or #3 to guarantee us taking him. I was sure he was targeting Thabeet, but it’s clear to me now that Rubio was the guy at the top of our board.
So unless he raises an unbearable amount of hell….something that would be very uncharacteristic of a Spanish player, I think he’s in a Wolves’ uniform in the next year or two.
I’m sure Jerry is busy writing up the stories that are on the sports page now about the draft. I’m guessing making deadline for tomorrow’s paper is a higher priority than filling in the blog.
Actually, as I think about it Rubio staying in Europe a year or two might not be bad - both PGs get to play & develop full-time and we can choose which to keep and which to trade in a couple years - plus we wait to lock-in Rubio to his first contract when he’s closer to prime-time. Would still be a downer for next season though - they will probably be unwatchable once the shine wears off the new faces after a 0-8 start.
When asked a week or so ago about having to pay such a hefty buyout for his Italian squad, Rubio said he’s all about getting to his second contract as quickly as possible.
That would seem to suggest that he wants to get that time-table started, so I think he’ll be playing in The NBA this year.
haha alphawolf. Appalachian trail, nice.
Seriously Jerry blows, not the first time I’ve felt this way. I said it before I feel like he hates us.
Foo
Kidd is a free agent right now. I wouldn’t want much off their roster.
Quit it folks. Tonight is how you play “the game”. Kahn drafted the best players on the board. We got a ‘10 first round draft pick, a guy who will be stashed in Europe for a year or two and a guy with great upside. We have pieces to move. (including Rubio)
Quit bitching and realize that we took the best on the board picks… We are rebuilding and that Wayne Ellington will be the SOD! Rubio will join us in a year or two, we will have a couple solid picks next year…. Plan is well in motion! Patience my friends… It will take time!
Go Kahn!!! Thank you for a good ‘09 draft!
I’ve lived in Barcelona, kid is not comming here.
Maybe Jerrys getting a headcut?????
Wolve Rube what are you drinking? Or is that Jerry?
Rube is right, go Wolves 2012!
Jerry didnt like it, he quit!
newsflash…no one reads that print article…by the time it hits my breakfast table its like reading ancient history
Cool out, JayWolf, Jerry’s on deadline.
Come on Foo, his last anything was at 7:13 PM, lot has happened.
JAYWOLF:
Something tells me the Vikings aren’t done for the year. Everyone says the circus is coming to town.
to some of you morons, even if jerry isn’t on deadline for the newspaper — the stories and blog information you get here comes from REPORTING, not making stuff up while in your underwear in the basement.
watching the tape…marc jackson not striking me as a real brain trust…why do they think he can coach? totally different than playing
only in basketball do they think players make coaches
do you see Jose Canseco or Keith Millard coaching?
Wayne Ellington is a tremendous pick. He is this year’s Courtney Lee…NBA ready. He can shoot, he can attack the rim, he’s athletic. The prototypical player to pair with a guy like Rubio.
I agree, and looking at ESPN’s polls, so does the nation. Ellington is the sleeper pick of the draft.
Hey, dudes, my main job is not this blog. I’ve got other work to do on a busy draft night. Just finishing that up now. I’m writing for a 350,000-plus circulation newspaper, not just 19 guys carrying on a chat conversation.
Keith Millard reference alpha… very nice, “HeyCoach” are you saying Jerry is in his underwear in your basement?
When you get the chance, what did we trade Calathes for? I’m kind of disappointed by that, but I want to know what we got back at least before I make a final judgment.
Jerry come on, 4 picks not a word… multitask.
JayWolf - You’re a Johnny Come Lately on this board… stop showing up and killing Jerry. This blog is a forum for rubes, not busy-work for its moderator.
Jerry,
It has been about four hours since the Wolves made the Flynn pick. They have made four pick since then. WHERE ARE YOU? This is the worst beat guy in the league. it is truly unbelieveable.
jerry, you can open up with us
blonde or brunette?
alphatwolf you had to go with jose n keith, most pro mlb coaches were former players, as are nfl coaches like the last to that won the superbowl. in the nba i think jackson had a long stay in the nba.
jerry
we’re just givin’ you the business
you’re doing great
you guys have way too much free time…
Foo yell at everybody for bashing Jerry not just me, problem is I’m comparing him the the blog for the vikings, they actually give updates.
Wow some harsh feelings towards Jerry but hopefully he will have a new post with some good info, keep the faith, the info and opinions are coming
no nfl or mlb player was ever given a head coaching job without being an assistant first
what are you talking about the last one to win the superbowl?
you watch the same superbowl i did?
JayWolf - Again, you’re just a Johnny Come Lately… if you were a regular on this board, you’d know that Jerry is on this thing all the time.
Uhh, you guys realize there’s more than one Star Trib reporter working the Vikings’ blog…
I can’t believe all the ingrates bagging on Jerry here. He’s only one man and he’s got deadlines to make. Save your sense of entitlement for another day.
Not my first time here foo, said before not the first time i felt let down either. Sorry you dont agree but vikings beat writers are far and away better.
yes pitts coach played football not in nlf but played.
Hey Jerry - know its a busy night for you - just wondering if you can confirm or deny rumors about Ellington and Calathes deals. Also - what kind of visibility do you have to the Wolves Front Office at this point? Have they called it a night, are they working the phones, or impossible to tell?
made your point JayWolf
you are now bringing down what is supposed to be a joyous occasion,
the bringing into the world of our new timberpups
Jerry, do you see Flynn being traded in the next day or two. I read elsewhere that a trade of Flynn + 18 to Sac for Evans fell through when the player Sac wanted was no longer there.
If Rubio is our guy and Flynn was BPA, it should not be that hard to package Flynn with some other assets to get a good SG.
Jerry must not appreciate the webhits to this blog. Maybe the PioneerPress would be more interested in our commentary.
JayWolf - You’re a Johnny Come Lately… if you don’t like it over here, then end your brief cameo and go back to the blog where you don’t feel “let down.”
Are you a victim or martyr or something?
BTW, who feels “let down” by a blog moderator? Don’t you have a wife, kids or friends? They’re the ones you’re supposed to feel let down by… not a stranger who moderates a blog.
Ellington isn’t going anywhere
mike tomlin is a coach, not a player
he had a track record as a successful assistant
even then it was considered a surprise hire
has marc jackson ever even run a practice?
It’s like David Duchovny directing one episode of the X-Files and suddenly he’s ready to helm the next Merchant Ivory flick.
What Ellington rumor do you speak of Salsy? The Calathes deal is done confirmed by ESPN and others.
Which episode did Mulder direct alphatwolf?
Pretty spilt around here, Arenal makes a very good point. I guess I’ll wait for it all in print tomorrow. Ohh that’s right I dont read the print I have the INTERNET.
?? I haven’t heard anything about trading Ellington. That’d be incredibly stupid.
Forge - Regarding Calathes, is anything confirmed regarding our return?
Sorry, Arenal, but webhits don’t make either paper any money whatsoever…it’s nice to see the interest, but it’s the main reason newspapers are going out of business because everybody has to come expect to get what we do for free.
Kahn vowed, promised, swore they took Flynn and Rubio to play together, said the NBA rules changes have made it a guard’s league, cited the old-school examples of DJ-Ainge and Dumars-Isiah as examples, didn’t really give a real reason why they didn’t take curry in his short time in the media room other than they really really loved Flynn. (Curry is a point guard too, but a better shooter).
They traded Calathes’ right to Dallas for 2010 second round pick and, of course, cash.
My impression of Kahn so far is he tells the truth as he sees it. I don’t think he’s lying and has a trade up his sleeve. I think, for better or worse, what you see is what you get.
Foo getting personal, go back to rubbing Jerry’s back and have a “happy ending” to tonight.
At first I’ve got to say I was a bit perplexed by taking Flynn but now I’m really warming to it. After all two of our best players are undersized forwards. So it’s like we have the length to compete with somebody like the spurs or the lakers but you through Rubio, Flynn, and Ellington onto the court at the same time, couple that with Love’s passing ability and you can just out run teams. Looks like unless we trade Rubio/Flynn we’re building a kind of old Phoenix Suns team.
It’ll be interesting to see what Ricky’s agent has to say when they come to town tomorrow. I’m assuming Dan Fegan will be with him when Ricky comes for a 3 pm news conference
Draft Express reported Ellington to Denver - guessing they just screwed up the Lawson trade and didn’t bother retracting it, but others have been picking it up and repeating it.
I guess I didn’t see Jerry getting all high and mighty when he had 20 comments on the same blog entry that lasted a week at a time. Now gets a taste of the big time like the Vikes blog and throws us under a bus like Kahn threw Mchale.
Don’t think they’re trading Ellington. He’s the only shooting guard on the roster at the moment, isn’t he?
Duchovny directed three episodes, including my favorite, the Unnatural, the one where the alien hides after crashing in Roswell on a Negro League Baseball team, cause all he wants to do is play ball
an important message for us all in the midst of the hatin’ on this board tonight
can’t we all just get along?
Is somebody actually complaining about McHale getting thrown under the bus. That’s rich…
Yep Salzy that was the Lawson deal. Anybody else surprised we traded him within the division? I still like the trade but I think Lawson could be very good in Denver.
Seriously, JayWolf, “let down?” “LET DOWN?”
I’m more interested in what Kahn has to say about Rubio’s buyout. I think Ricky and Dan Fegan have made their stance pretty clear…
I’m glad to know Kahn isn’t planning to deal one of them though. We could do a lot worse than having too many talented point guards. Let’s run with it and see what happens….worse case, they both have high trade value and we can move one to fill a need elsewhere.
Jerry thanks for the info at this point. If you’ve got a few, whats your take on why they didn’t take Curry?
so henk and rubio are buds?
am I the last one to get this?
Kahn said the buyout situation will be an “interesting ride.” I’ll put this up on a new posting soon but for now this is what he said when asked if he thought the issue was Rubio doesn’t want to play in Minnesota. He said it was a buyout issue.
“I don’t think its a destination problem. I really don’t. I believe he would have been more than happy to play in Oklahoma City, and with all due respect to Oklahoma City, (silence). And I will say this, yes it’s cold here. I told this to Dan Fegan, and I will say this personally to Ricky when I have the opportunity: it’s cold in Detroit, Toronto, Chicago, Milwaukee, and by the way it’s pretty cold in Oklahoma City in the winter. I’ve seen a couple of ice storms in Tulsa. Here’s one difference. We’re in the Western Conference. We get to go to L.A. for four games. We go to Phoenix twice, to Texas and play those teams. We leave. And I told them today, in the off-season, we don’t have any restrictions on where he works on his game in the off-season, provided he works on his game. If he wants to work on his game back in Spain, we’ll send a coach and staff and help him work on his game in Spain. We’d do that for any player by the way, that’s not about Ricky. But we’re in the player development business and we have to be mindful that we live in a different world than the NBA was 15 years ago.
That is a good one Alpha. My favorite episode is the one with the pizza delivery dude who was a vampire. Comedy gold, not sure who directed it but funny as hell.
Thanks for the update, Jerry. Seems like the Wolves are making a habit of great 2nd round value PG picks who they end up trading for next year’s 2nd round picks.
I guess you share Reusse’s laments about the internet & newspapers. I don’t know what the business answer is, but the internet isn’t going away and refusing to move into the 21st Century won’t help the newspapers survive any longer. (but thats a topic for a different thread).
For the record, the Trib *is* making advertising money from these blogs - although I’d guess its fractional compared to print editions.
Alright Foo “let down” was maybe are hard term for you. How about uninformed, in Jerry’s post to Arenal at 11:56, he admits that he hates us.
who is henk?
Foo I havent read anything else on the Calathes bit, maybe Jerry knows more.
I think they didn’t take Curry because they really really love Flynn and had him rated higher. By the way, Curry is considered a point guard, too, right, although a better shooter. I think they think Flynn is more explosive, a better defender and plays bigger than Curry does even though he’s three inches shorter. Kahn said he’s never seen a 6-footer who “looks and feels” like he’s 6-3 or 6-4. I’m skeptical, too, but actually think they might be right because obnoxious Dick Vitale ripped them for not taking Curry.
hey….the best writter/blog guy is russo…..and don’t you forget it….
I am seriously intrigued by the picks…..hopefully rubio warms up (no pun intended…..well…maybe a little) to Minny…..time will tell…
With some good moves I’ll be able to finally move on from KG…(although I love Al, and Love!)
Go Wild!!!! Go Wolves!!!!
Hate’s a pretty strong world, JayWolf, Don’t hate. I don’t. It’ll eat you up inside.
I love these picks. Love em. Curry at 6 would have made a lot less sense than Flynn. Wake up! Curry is a point guard. He’s a small point guard. He can shoot but who knows if he’ll be able to get his shots off with big, strong NBA guards getting in his face. He’s a playmaking JJ Reddick. Woopty Doo. Flynn is tough. He’s a tough defender and can score in multiple ways. Rubio is the best pick of this draft. We’ll regret it forever if we trade him. He’s 18 and 6′5″. He’s going to grow. He’ll put on weight and develop a consistent jump shot. He’s got long arms and good instincts on defense. Neither of them are great shooters, but they can serviceable. Kahn drafted the two best players on their board and I think it was the right move. Love the Ellingson pick too.
henk norel…new Tpup
Kahn is a newspaper guy and he knows that Curry would have gotten us alot of “print” so if he didnt pick him he must have felt it. Thanx Jerry.
in appreciation for your efforts tonight, jerry, i am enclosing this pizza coupon.
enjoy!
Oh ok alpha, I am officially the last guy to figure that one out now.
Bill Simmons had the quote of night…
sportsguy33 DaJuan Blair to the Spurs at 37? How does sh#t like this happen? You’re damned right I just swore. Unbelievable.
JayWolf - good. I’m glad you’re recovering.
Stick around some… Now that the draft night is over, I look forward to seeing if you’re still around in a week or two.
Well, we did take a very good shooter in Ellington, who actually has the size to be a legit shooting guard. So that helps. And I’m sure Kahn is well aware of the types of players a guy like Rubio needs to thrive, so I’d expect a busy summer of getting shooters and athletes in for workouts.
Guys like Carney and Brewer already look so much more dangerous on offense with Rubio to drop them dimes cutting to the basket. Think of what Jason Kidd can do with the players around him. I really believe Rubio will be able to do the same thing in two or three years.
Also, I am adjusting to all this “new media.” Just started tweeting yesterday and I tweeted during the draft when, in retrospect, i should have blogged some entries. Bigger audience. Lesson learned.
Souhan made an interesting observation I hadn’t stopped to consider yet - seems like Jefferson’s and Rubio’s games aren’t very complimentary. Rubio is looking to move the ball - Jefferson is a dump & post player. Seems like Love is a better match for style - I wonder if the ultimate decision over the next couple of years will be to pick the stronger tandem of Love/Rubio or Flynn/Jefferson?
Or - as my brother commented, maybe they are taking a hockey mentality and trying to put together two strong lines. ![]()
Rodney Carney is gone, everybody. Gone.
Wolves trade Calathes to Dallas

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded second-round pick Nick Calathes to the Dallas Mavericks for a 2010 second-round pick and cash considerations.
The Wolves selected the Florida guard with the 45th overall pick. But with first-rounders Ricky Rubio, Jonny Flynn and Wayne Ellington already coming to a jam-packed roster, the Wolves really didn’t have room for Calathes this season.
Calathes has already signed a contract to play professionally in Greece.

i’m getting you’re tweets too
my set up

2) Google Reader for all BB blogs
3) Tweet deck to follow twitters
blog activity was really light all over…it was hot all day then went dark right when draft started WTF? not just you, seems like everyone was off doing something else
Twit activity slowed too except for Love and Hahn! from Newsday
btw I cannot even interpret Dwade’s tweets
Jerry posts all year. We have a lot of free agency stuff coming up, summer camps, summer leagues, Rubio’s buyout has to be worked out…there’s a lot of material.
Foo looks like we get a 2010 2nd round pick and cash for Calathes. It is what it is I guess.
neglected to add that for most up to date commentary I had to go to this blog
Vitale should be in a museum
if I want commentary I come here
Man, Love was going NUTS on Twitter in the first round.
He’s gotta be careful about some of the things he says. It looks real bad when you second-guess your boss so publicly.
I do think Kahn is looking at this very big picture. He seems to be quite the expansive thinker and he’s looking at this as one crucial moment in many, many to come the next three years. I think he took the best players that were there and made moves with Lawson and Calathes that were aimed for the future. If James Johnson had been there, I think, he would have used that 18th pick. When he was gone, they took the Charlotte pick. Like it or hate it, I think he’s prepared for this team to be lousy, maybe wants it, next year so they can get one more chance at a high lottery pick and supplement it now with the Utah and Charlotte picks.
Bryan, im behind the Twitter fad what did he say?
As the dust settles… what a great draft. We got players. All three first rounders can play.
None of this “looks good on paper” stuff. None of this “hasn’t delivered in big games” stuff. These guys can play.
I love that we didn’t over pursue the 2nd pick. Mike Miller and Foye for Rubio????
That has to be the greatest Wolves trade by far.
you want to feel better go check out the pain on the bullets blog
hah, hah …. have fun with foye and that girl from south dakota
http://www.bulletsforever.com/2009/6/25/925481/open-thread-2-the-nba-draft
You looking to start crap tonight against Love Bryan? Geesh why dont you go on a Memphis blog you Thabeet fanboy.
I did post the Calathes trade at 11:56 — and tweeted it earlier — after i finished up newspaper deadlines…
Hopefully Jerome Jordan is a target in next year’s draft. If we’re not trading for Thabeet and none of the veteran centers seem viable, that’s the best option.
I would like to have kept Calathes though. We could have still stashed him in Europe and he’s one of those do-it-all players that’s so crucial in the modern NBA. Can play the 1, 2, or 3 and can shoot. That’s a valuable asset, to have a guy who can come in and fill needs on a game-by-game basis.
Ha, ha. Here’a a good one.
What do you think about the Minnesota trade now?
I think you already know the answer to that question.
Dumb. Impatient. Short-sighted.
At best, Miller and Foye will be the team’s 4th and 5th best players, more likely the 5th and 6th best players. In time, Rubio could have been the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team.
Jerry whats your bottom line feeling on Rubio, here, Europe or another team?
I’m not saying I’m holding out for a Thabeet trade. I’m saying that Love was inappropriate with his Tweets tonight, just like he was when he broke McHale’s firing before Kahn made it official. That’s not right, and apparently Love isn’t picking that up.
Hell, even Jefferson called him out about the McHale thing.
Very early on the Calathes tweet–appreciated. Didn’t see that anywhere for a long time. Started to wonder if it was real.
Guys-
All of these recent players drafted and mixing them with the current roster won’t mean squat in thre months….Kahn has said it more than once (and so have the so called experts): The Wolves have many more moves up their sleeves!!!! They have a number of chips to choose from, along with flexibility…..
LMAO, Kahn told Love to TWEET MORE!!!! He said he didnt mind him doing it at all. He said times change and what Love did is signs of the times. Hell today on Dan Patrick Kahn said it again! To a NATIONAL AUDIENCE. And he said that Love has the potential to be great! Your bias towards Love is getting old Bryan. Seriously get a grip. Are you really that sensitive Bryan? Or do you just like finding stuff to nitpick?
Bryan, not a tweeter what did he say?
I must admit, i thought you were lacking on your blog coverage, but I understand you have more pressing deadlines that your blog here. I applaud what you do and keep it. My only suggestion is to update the blog, mainly in comments like you have done after we made our 2nd rd picks every so often, even if it is far between the updates/posts. It lets us know you are still paying attention to us, even if your post is “working on info on trading a pick, etc. Keep up the great work. Go Wolves!
To start, they have two to three possible first round picks next year (Utah, Charlotte, and their own). They have the rights to players this year: Flynn, Rubio, and Ellington (Ellington was an awesome take–the guy is a flat out winner and perfect fit for this team). They also have some expiring contracts: Madsen, Smith, Thomas, and Pechrov. I expect those expiring deals to become very important to teams this year for two reasons: Clearing cap room for next year’s bonanza of star free agents (many teams are already trying to position themselves by cleaning up their cap) and the economy for those smaller market, less drawing teams.
what are we doing????????????????? omg we better trade….what are we doing??????????? i dont even know
Jerry, is there still a chance Kahn sends Flynn and a future pick to the Kings for Evans?
Just watched the Kahn press conference.
I’ll admit it… I’m starting to really love this Wolves draft. I like what Kahn said about not falling into the trap of needing a formulaic “point” and “shooting” guard. The fact is, the Wolves drafted two dynamic, exciting, TALENTED guards. One is a great passer, the other is a great penetrator. I don’t see why, because they’ve both been labeled “point” guards by the media, they can’t play on the court at the same time.
Maybe they can’t. Maybe they are too small together. But just because they technically play the same position doesn’t mean they won’t play well together.
Here you go Jay. Bryan= Anal Retentive and is probably more constipated than Thabeet ending up on his arse when Blair flung him like a rag doll.

I heard talk the Kings were talking about sending us Evans for Flynn and the #18 pick, but the guy they wanted at #18 was gone by then.
Anyone’s guess who it was.
You seem a lot more hung up on defending Love than I am about attacking him Arenal.
All I’ve said is he’s a bad fit here. And I’ve also said he’s a good player. Several times. Yet you feel the need to defend him like he’s a family member. What’s up with that?
unbelieveable
56% of bullets fans would still take miller and foye over rubio
wow, now thats an answer.
I predict Thabeet will be injured one month into the season. I am sure Bryan will be crying like he lost his puppy.
My gut strongly tells me that Kahn will keep Love, Jefferson, Telfair (back-up), Flynn, Ellington, Gomes, and Brewer (he has to keep Brewer because of his injuries). He will also resign Carney. That makes eight. Everyone else is on the table and along with picks or expiring contracts, could net a decent player or two that could create a 35-40 win team in 2009-10. Personally, I think Kahn is trying to snow other GMs with his “intentions on keeping Rubio”). I’m guessing he waits a few weeks, then pulls the trigger at the highest point to nab a proven NBA SG, or SF. I could see the Knicks, Clippers, or Bulls push hard for Rubio.
Is Thabeet your stepbrother Bryan? Seriously.
And if it wasn’t for the Mike Miller/ K Love trade, Rubio wouldnt be on this team right now. Just saying.
JJ i agree, how ever it happens Rubio is playing NBA basketball for another team.
Jerry when are you going to put up a new blog? This one has been beaten to death.
Nope. No relation Arenal.
If you’ll notice though, I haven’t said a word about Thabeet or trading for him since the draft started, other than to say I’m not expecting it to happen. You brought up Thabeet yourself. So what does that say?

Forge, I think he likes BIG numbers.
“What was that sound? Rubio, Flynn are your newest Wolves” posted at 7:13pm.
It says you are obsessed with cutting down Love every chance you get. Did I not make that abundantly clear when I boxed you with all that Kahn being appreciative of Love’s twittering? Not to mention he is a foundational piece to this team so get used to having him around. Actually I am glad you don’t want him here, I like watching you squirm when he puts up double doubles and you come up with lame excuses as to why he doesnt fit on this team. Good entertainment. Oh yeah Thabeet = Bust. Good night!
Let’s be real clear here folks….
The Wolves will not trade Ricky Rubio before the season starts. That’s just stupid. They will find out what they’ve got. You just don’t trade a guy like that. What would a proven player do right now? We competing with the Lakers.
Kahn just pulled off potentially one of the best trades ever. You don’t flip a player like that.
Here’s what I think:
1. Kahn liked Flynn as much as Curry.
2. When he picked Rubio, he couldn’t be totally sure Rubio would be a TWolf this season.
3. He thinks Flynn and Rubio can play together.
4. He takes the true point guard at 6 just in case something goes wrong in the Rubio situation.
I think he’s right about them being able to play together. Plus, if you distribute the minutes right, they’ll only need to be together for 15 minutes per game. Though this would mean Telfair is gone.
Jay what are you implying? Nevermind dont go there. ![]()
And for the record, Love’s tweets are totally lame and stupid.
It’s like some kid jacked up on Red Bull. You don’t diss other players like that. It’s unprofessional.
I know he’s just messing around and getting goofy, but come on.
Not being able to defend the paint isn’t lame or an excuse. It’s something that costs teams championships. Learn basketball plz.
Do you expect Rubio to go back to Europe or play here next season?
Rubio’s coming.
Rodman which player did he diss? Seriously tell me. Because right now you are as just as big an idiot as Bryan.
If it’s between Flynn and Telfair, it’s Flynn by a mile. Which I do kind of feel bad about, because I like Bassy, but Flynn is just better. Shoots better, finishes better, defends better….at his size and abilities, he’s actually what everyone thought Telfair would be coming out of high school.
Brewer, Ellington, Flynn, and Rubio, whichever three of those, running the floor after a Love outlet. When they can’t run, they wait for Big Al and dump it inside. It will be interesting and maybe fun.
Next year you add a top big man (who is bound to be much better than Thabeet), and you’ve got the makings of a team.
jordan hill???? what???? haha
Do you think Favre will play point guard or us next year?
I don’t think the twolves are that long term
i think they do have some pressure to sell tickets for next year
only rubio does that for them
johnny flynn ain’t going to sell one extra pretzel in TC
I admit i would want to watch Rubio.
Rodman?? What?? haha?? thats not dissing
Rodman is stupid. that is dissing.
Grow up dude.
Arenal “Rodman is stupid” is not dissing either, Rodman’s mom is so fat she is on the 10 most wanted list in Ethiopia. Now that is some dissing, no offense Rodman.
I don’t think the Wolves are far out either. 16 months…that’s the timetable Kahn keeps quoting. So he wants us to be playoff competitive by the start of the 2010 season. That’s basically just one year…not long at all in the big picture of things.
Jay, you are wise.
I think he will be done trading for a bit. If he can get Love, Al, Rubio, Flynn, Ellington to play a lot this year then hope for the high pick next year and a grab monster center. Next year we already have 3 more first rounders!! Not bad.
I will say 1012 top 4 team:)
Thanks Jerry for all of the work.
That might be it, I’m hearing crickets. I win!
What do you win? Those pizza coupons?
Jerry’s home number, GO TO SLEEP!
WINNER!
Hey, I did tell you guys though: the Kings were very serious about taking Evans at #4. Petrie takes the guy he likes, doesn’t care what anyone thinks.
I also did say there was no way Curry would be there at #18. That just seems like a ridiculous prediction in retrospect, huh?
Rubio’s dad says he is staying in Spain for 1 or 2 more years, so we might not have him until 2012
You two are bots.
I’ll wait and see what Rubio, Fegan and Kahn say tomorrow about it.
I will say now though, that Ricky’s parents seem to care a lot more about where he plays than Ricky does.
When the Twolves took Rubio at 5, it was hard to figure out whom they would take next. Everyone complains about them taking Flynn (who probably was the best player on the board at that time) but few (other than those who would prefer Curry) have said whom they should have taken instead. Flynn in my opinion was the best player on the board.
Meanwhile, there are things to work out regarding Rubio’s contract status etc. There are probably a few trade scenarios being considered as well.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/feedarticle/8577706
The 6ft-4in guard, who turned professional at age 14, said his priority was game-time rather than marketing ahead of joining the Timberwolves, whose home base lacks the profile of more cosmopolitan destinations.
“I’m thinking about to play minutes,” Rubio said.
“That’s my love. I want to play basketball, and if they give me minutes, I’m going to come.”
Guys-
Wolves have 58.12M locked into player salaries for 2009-10 (the cap is 57M and the luxury tax is 70M).
This includes 46.24M in current players who will see the floor (including rookie contracts for Rubio-3.27M, Flynn-2.97M, and Ellington-1.00M) and 11.88M in expiring dead weight (Brown, Madsen, Cardinal, and Pecherov).
In 2010-11 they have 28.27M on the books (not including the team option for Love) and three potential draft picks (Their own, Utah, and Charlotte).
It is very feasible for Kahn to go out and grab a decent mid-level SG for those expiring contracts toward the trade deadline in 2010 (for say 8-11M). Add in the 28.27 already on the books and the Wolves will be sitting at roughly 38M against next years cap (which will most likely be the same 58M (the Luxury tax will be slightly below 70M).
They can then concentrate on some mid level free agents as they see fight….all in all, we spend this coming season improving and then next season the realistic goal is making the playoffs and contending.
God damn I’m happy with how today went. ![]()
Also, I saw a picture of Rubio on NBA.com in a Wolves cap and holding a game ball, and…
Is he really going to wear #89…?
JJ-
Absolutely, that was what I was thinking too.
Anyone down for a Rubio/Joe Johnson backcourt? ![]()
I hope so Bryan. I love weird numbers.
Bryan-
When I noted getting a SG—that is exactly the type of guy I was thinking about!!!
PG Rubio/Flynn
SG Johnson/Ellington
SF Gomes/Brewer
PF Love/
C Jefferson
Rest of it: draft next year….solid 10 deep!
Only issue I have with that JJ is that Gomes isn’t really a 3. He’s an undersized 4.
i don’t see Joe Johnso leaving Atlanta. it would be interesting, but he also loves to bring the ball up the court. and last i checked Stern still only allows one ball on the court during a game.
No recap from Jerry tonight?
Ok. I’ll recap for us!
#5 Ricky Rubio: best pick we could have made. Whether he plays this year, next year, or for a different team, we’re guaranteed to get something good out of it. If he does play for us, and I think he will, then we’ve got our point guard of the future and a kid with all the potential to be an all time great.
#6 Jonny Flynn: odd to pick another point guard here, but the reality is it was all point guards or Jordan Hill. So we took the best one available…like you all say every team should do. So don’t complain. Flynn is athletic, aggressive, and a great defender. I’m not sure this Rubio/Flynn duo thing will work out…in fact I’m pretty sure it won’t…but it is what it is. Flynn is great insurance if Rubio balks and wants out, and individually he’s a great talent.
#18 traded to the Nuggets: we got a first round pick in the 2010 draft for this. That’s a lot more significant that it seems right now.
#28 Wayne Ellington: this was really virtuoso foresight on Kahn’s part. First of all, Ellington is NBA ready. Very much like Courtney Lee in that regard. Second, his skillset meshes perfectly with Rubio’s. He can get to the rim and finish those tricky passes and catch ally opps, and he can hit the deep ball when Rubio penetrates and kicks out. We need 2 or 3 more guys like Ellington on the roster.
#45 traded to Dallas: kind of wish we had kept Calathes. I’m not sure what we gain by this, unless Kahn is convinced there will be a better second rounder in 2010. But Calathes is such a skilled player, can play the 1, 2, and 3, and can shoot. We’ll have to see on this one.
#47 Henk Norel: Stuart Scott didn’t realize we had 6 picks, not 5. LOL. This strikes me as mostly catering to Rubio, but Norel can help us a lot all on his own. He’s a face up 4 with a decent shot, something we’ve been badly needing, plus he’s high energy and can run the floor, which is something Rubio needs. So I bet not many people have heard of him, but he is a pretty good pick that would actually be worthwhile to try and bring in.
great job bryan.
i think the wolves had a good night, i still think they’er in a position where they can make a couple moves in free agency and add another guard, make a trade and possibly add to the front court. with the expiring contracts left and the cap space the wolves have I like the chances of this team getting a couple more pieces to work with and now w/ Flynn and Rubio even use Telfair to move some bodies around
and Bryan, i believe the #89 on the basketball referred to the year the TWolves joined the NBA.
Are there any centers out there who can rebound and defend the rim who we can pick up for this coming season? Also, how’s the crop of #5’s look for next year’s draft?
Rubio and Flynn might finally break the Wolves curse in regards to point guards. They have been cursed from the beginning when they took “Pooh” instead of Tim Hardaway.
