With draft just moments away, Ben Woodside waits

While we wait for Blake Griffin  to step up to the podium…

Albert Lea’s own Ben Woodside, the former NDSU guard, is watching tonight’s draft with his family from a hotel room in Chicago, where he has been living and working out the past two months because that’s where his agents are based.

There’s an outside chance somebody — Portland perhaps, or maybe even the Wolves? — takes a flyer on him in the second round.

But Woodside — the guy who scored 37 in that NCAA first-round tourney loss to Kansas at the Metrodome — isn’t betting on it.

“To be honest, I don’t expect much to happen,” he said earlier today. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to get in front of a number of team. I’m not nervous about anything. I’m not expected to get draft anyway. But I’ll be watching.”

Woodside said he worked out for 10 teams — San Antonio, Miami, Chicago, Detroit, Utah, Portland, Sacramento, Utah, Denver and the Wolves — leading  up to tonight.

“A lot more than I expected coming out of college,” he said. “I’ve been racking up the frequent flyer miles. Hopefully, I have enough for a free trip.”

He probably won’t have to pay his own way to Las Vegas next month. If he doesn’t get drafted, he’ll likely be there as a free-agent signee for someone summer-league team.

C’mon Thunder. Just take Harden and be done with it…

Jerry Zgoda says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:42 pm

Harden’s gonna drop, maybe as far as eight

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:42 pm

hopefully

Centrist says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:43 pm

Jerry:

ESPN and Draft Express report Harden going to the Thunder…should be interesting to see how it unfolds

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:43 pm

I hope we dont take him

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:44 pm

Now it gets interesting

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Nah. Unless we swing a deal in the next few minutes, this pick will be Thabeet.

Pick #2 is where it gets interesting.

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:46 pm

yes

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:47 pm

ATTN: Thunder

Take Harden

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:48 pm

I hope OKC and Sac pass on Evans

Jerry Zgoda says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:48 pm

I’ll believe Presti takes Harden third when I see it. He may end up with him when all’s said and done, but it will be a circuitous route

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Hopefully bryan

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

Well, let’s see if Kahn works the phones to try and trade for Thabeet. Could happen, depending on how the next 4 picks go.

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:52 pm

I want the opposite of whatever ChrisH wants (he’s infatuated with Evans, obviously). . .

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:52 pm

Yes, we will get Rubio or Evans now

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:52 pm

YESSS!!!!!!

fiveanddime says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:52 pm

Nooooo!

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:52 pm

Rubio is ours. Unless Sactown has a brain fart

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:52 pm

lol at Matty

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:53 pm

They took Harden!

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:54 pm

We get either Rubio or Evans. I don’t care which one, as long as it’s one of them. And it will be.

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:55 pm

I used to be down on Harden, but I kind of wanted him at this point. Who knows, maybe we’ll still end up with him?

fiveanddime says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:55 pm

Assuming Westbrook gets better. and stops giving away so many posessions with bad shots. OKC is going to be very good.

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:55 pm

I’ll guess Rubio and Curry. Maybe a move with Curry after the Knicks pick. Rubio, Chandler and ????

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:56 pm

Great organization……..

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:57 pm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

fiveanddime says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:57 pm

Yesss!

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:57 pm

Ok, Rubio, Curry. Curry to NYK, we get chandler and???

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:58 pm

No words for my sadness

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 6:58 pm

C’mon Kahn. Take Rubio!!

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Yes! No Evans!

Forge says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:02 pm

Yes no Evans!

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Ruuuuuuuubbbbbbbbbbiiiiiiiioooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

TwinsAreFrauds says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:03 pm

I wanted Evans; am bummed.

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Yippppppeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Better get a big guard somewhere tonight

fiveanddime says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Well played by Kahn. Got his man without giving up the farm.

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Kahn is a genius!

Forge says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:05 pm

DAMN RIGHT!!

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Rubio? Check.

Next? Curry. What is available at the 2 guard if they trade him to NYK and get Chandler?

Mr. Rubio says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:06 pm

My Euro team says thanks for paying out the butt for me. I’m a bust. Suckers!!!!!

TwinsAreFrauds says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:07 pm

He doesn’t seem too pumped to be a Wolf

Sportsjunkie says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:07 pm

Curry now……

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:08 pm

No Curry, we will have the weakest and smallest backcourt in the league

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:08 pm

They might take another pure point (like Flynn) and trade him for a pure (veteran) two guard.

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:09 pm

It’s gonna be Curry. Whether we keep him….

fiveanddime says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Any wonder why Van Gundy is not in the discussion for coaching this team? He thinks anyone playing a team this young won’t last a year and a half.

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:09 pm

We also have a big chance to move up from the 18. This is a big night.

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Who could they pick in order to trade with OKC for Harden? That also might happen here.

ChrisH says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:10 pm

wtf, who are we trading

fiveanddime says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:10 pm

That makes no sense to me.

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:10 pm

Oh my. There is a big trade in the offing. Rubio to NYC…

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:10 pm

I am a prophet

Sportsjunkie says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:10 pm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo….

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:10 pm

Whooaaa. That was unexpected.

I’m sensing a trade coming up now…

Tom says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:11 pm

FLYNN??????????????????

Foo says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:11 pm

TRADE IS IN THE OFFING…

WE just maximized the value of the No. 6 pick, but we’ll move Flynn tonight.

Forge says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:11 pm

now what

Tom says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:12 pm

It’s gotta be a trade coming??? but why not just pick Curry you know NY wants him???

Swan Dizzle says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:12 pm

WHAT ?!?!?!?!!?

jballer_13 says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:13 pm

We have to be looking to trade now…. but to who?

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:13 pm

Bet they move Rubio to NYC for Curry and Chandler

Bryan says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:13 pm

I bet we can get more trading Flynn or Rubio than we can trading Curry to New York.

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:14 pm

NYK wants Rubio more than Curry. If they get Curry we’ll have Flynn and Curry

Brandon says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:14 pm

WTF!!! There has to be a trade! And NOT Rubio!!!

fatassets says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Milwaukee?

Foo says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:15 pm

Might be an already-agreed-to trade out there…

I read that after 1 p.m. today that teams can’t make any trades official until the draft begins.

So it may already be done…

wtftw says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:15 pm

WTF?? I’m sure they’ll be trading one of the better of the two players… It’ll be Roy for Foye deja vu again.

Tom says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:15 pm

Keeping both!!!

Satch Sanders says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:16 pm

whoa! That blew up my theory. Still, there’s going to be a trade.

Foo says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:17 pm

We’re not going to get Curry from NYK…. but I’d love to trade Flynn to NYK for Wilson Chandler and the 8th pick…

Maybe this next pick will be our selection being made by The Knicks just for formality sakes.

Swan Dizzle says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:17 pm

ESPN says they are keeping both because they think they can play together !

Matty says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:17 pm

New thread guys. . .

darren004 says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:19 pm

I am all for keeping both….

Foo says:

June 25th, 2009 at 7:22 pm

I absolutely love both Flynn and Rubio… so I’m torn about trading one of them.

All the folks who think Al and Love can’t play together are going to go nuts if we keep Rubio and Flynn.

If we had a pre-arranged deal with The Knicks, they wouldn’t have just taken Jordan Hill.
