UPDATE: Jerry Zgoda got hold of Kahn, via text, and the Wolves president said he’s going to Spain “next week” to visit with first-round draft pick Ricky Rubio and his Spanish team.
UPDATE II: Check out Kevin Love candidly chatting it up with Sports Guy Bill Simmons at the BS Report podcast. Here.
Someone already posted this on the previous thread, but we’ll put it up here to give it a headline:
Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports, citing unnamed sources, says Wolves basketball boss David Kahn is planning a trip to Spain to meet DKV Joventut officials about lowering the steep $6.6 million buyout clause in draft pick Ricky Rubio’s contract.
We’ll pop on here from time to time to add things to Jerry’s blog while he’s on vacation (and I’m sure Jerry will jump in from time to time as well).
The link is here.
UPDATE III from JZ: Add former Denver coach Jeff Bzdelik to the long list of guys who’ve spoken with David Kahn about the coaching job. Chris Tomasson from the Rocky Mountain Independent reports that Bzdelik, Colorado University’s head coach, interviewed with Kahn earlier this week in Las Vegas but Bzdelik said any further conversation would require permission from his current employer.
Bzdelik coached the Nuggets from 2002 to 2005 and in 2004 unexpectedly led them to their first playoffs in nine years.
I still think this is an exhaustive dance that will, barring failed negotiations, result in Mark Jackson being named as the next coach.
Unless, of course, Kahn returns from his trip to Spain next week with boots made from Spanish leather and Aito Garcia Reneses, Rubio’s coach at Joventut for a time and Spain’s Olympic coach next summer, as his new guy.
